Hey folks, i'm starting this topic mostly b/c it came up a bit on the NW watch, but i nerfed it there b/c it was off topic. (i'm such a mean mod ;; )

So... Discuss! Is a Dynamis shell that funds a members relic weapon being used? Are there ways to make it more fair to all participants in the shell if you think so? etc etc....

Personally I don't think an LS in that situation is being used, not if they all agree to it anyway... I also think that the relic weapon can be looked at as an accomplishment the shell has made, vs. the person who obtains it.

Sending the posts that were related to thsi topic from the NW board to the people who posted them... and looking forward to the discussion that unfolds here.

I agree. As long as the shell as a whole decides whom should get the upgrades. Different shells are going to take different amounts of time to finish the upgrades. The shell as a whole can and most likely will benefit from it in one way or another, even if it is just saying "Hey, we as a shell have been able to get 7 fully upgraded relic weapons. It's quite an accomplishment for a shell to have a member with one.

The two options for obtaining a fully upgraded relic weapon are

a) Have a Dynamis linkshell's backing.
or
b) Collect 700 million gil (at current prices).

I think we have four now on the server. Fully upgrading a weapon is a Linkshell achievement, even though only one person can use the item.

I'd be interested in knowing which method the JP players with upgraded weapons used...

Cashell, Kisada, there's a JP hume Female Ninja, Bramd. Is that the 4 you speak of?

Its just an easy way for a few to make money. Last shell I was in was all about helping people finish their weapons. Heard the line "Well the whole shell can be proud of it when he gets it" so many times. Then of course, like all shells, it breaks after feeding them coins for months. Yeah, definitly get to brag about giving away money, that's something to be proud of. The benefit of the weapons no where near matchs the cost of gaining them.

Only fair way is to evenly distribute the money/coins that drop (or just let them randomly drop). If its so important and worth so much let them buy it with their own money. If its so important to you that someone else gets their final weapon, why don't you donate a few mill to him. Giving the coins to upgraders is just blackmailed gil donation in return for a chance at af2.

Next response will be, "If you don't like it, don't join." In this case I wish there more options. It use to be it was common to see shells that let all the coins just get distributed during the run, but those are rare these days. Now most of them seem to go with the coins for upgrades method and you're out of luck if want af2 without supporting that.

And the response to follow that will be, "But all the other servers have more and we are a disgrace, etc, etc." Honestly, who cares? How often do you speak with people from other servers? I'm proud our server hasn't wasted so much time getting those worthless weapons. You and 50 others just spent 8 months farming so a thf could get a knew knife which he will use for all of three months before quiting and dropping everything? Yep, that's something to be proud of.

Hording the coins for upgraders is a scam. Let them go through the free market and things will be most fair to all.

While I am not a fan of Dynamis (I prefer sky/sea gear and the much much lower death/fail rate) I have to agree with Rones here. While getting people relic is sexy and all, it doesn't much benefit anyone aside "omg sexy weap" for the one who gets it.
A ninja with relic isn't gonna make Dynamis suddenly a cake walk.. however 700mil split is gonna feel a lot better for everyone else...

The one relic that would truly make a shell stronger that I know of would be Excalibur for a pld.. and that's more for the additional effect and for HNM/Sky..

Some LS's do Dynamis AND ... stuff.. some do not.. Those shells I can see helping to upgrade weapons.. that would truly benefit the shell to have people busting down gods/HNM's with the nifty Relic weapons..

Even distribution is best.. perhaps even sell the coins at a discount but hoarding for one person is lame.. What if that person quits? The shell breaks? anything could go wrong then you have all that currency wasted... Not a good plan at all.

Yeah, Lucifer's (or Serise's I couldn't remember which had it) was the fourth one I had heard of. There could easily be a female NIN as well though...

edit: and the BRD relic horn is phenomenal, the PLD sword apparently isn't that great.

The only ones that actually benefit someone besides the wielder is the horn and shield. Those are just sexy.

And as I said before, the second the LS splits, or the wielder leaves, the so-called "group effort" will be lost, and then people will be mad and upset, and most likely regret it. If the cost of a weapon wasn't so phenomenal, it wouldn't be as much of an issue, but considering the high cost and time required to get one, its just simply not worth it.

Cashell has Catastrophe/Apocalypse. Err Blaze already noted that ><

Honestly...My humble opinion...

A Dynamis LS should not collect coins for a Relic weapon until they have or can obtain attestations/fragments.

Dare I bring up World of Warcraft?

In World of Warcraft, these weapons were usually pumped out by the guild as a collective movement for "server first!" reasons. After the novelty wore down, if someone got the rare components it was up to them to buy the materials and craft it themselves... their guild still helped just nowhere as much.

Then again in WoW these weapons are actually worth crafting and using. From what I've seen in FFXI... these amazing weapons are meh.

Since the days of "server first!" are done with, I would think that shells would help someone out but not give them the weapon for free.

Rvision, has the katana, Kikoku. I believe she's JP. Cashell, JP as well, Elvaan, has the scythe, Apocalypse.

I think a dynamis shell funding a member with coins is a very very good idea in certain situation. For example, a HNM shell that also does dynamis with its members. This way the relic stays in the shell and further benefits the shell and makes it even stronger. It does not seem greedy or selfish at all to me.

However if you have a dynamis shell made of different kinds of people from different shells. It does seem a bit hard to get members to give up currency to people who you only see once or twice a week and do not know very well..

so start one of those kinda dynamis LSs if you wish and think there are so few :P

It's my understanding that there's only one shell that doesn't pay their members in dopped coins. I think it's malarkey unless the shell either holds that member's coins until they're ready, or unless that shellmember upgrades in realtime so there's no chance they can make off with gil.

The coins add up. I've probably gotten 9 million in gil from dropped coins, and half the time I run full inventory and lose chances at them. Can't think of many people who have been with us for any significant time who isn't wearing something they've earned from being in the shell, and that's not including relic.

Don't care who it is or what they've done, no one deserves a relic unless they pay market for it. It's doing the shell a disservice to waste assets like that. The noble idea of higher cause will probably fail, and if it doesn't it will eventually when ties are cut. Ties have to be cut. That's why giving someone a relic they didn't pay for is a mistake.

Any open roster Dynamis' probably shouldn't be hording coins for one member. One thats backed by a sky/HNM shell I can see it working out fine, but one where new members are coming in who have had no say in who is getting the relic should really reconsider their options. At least thats how I feel about it. If I were looking at Dynamis linkshells and I had the choice between upgrading a stranger and getting 1-7 coins in a freedrop Dynamis shell... well the choice should be obvious. If you're reliant on new recruits it's going to be a hard road for some members seeing one individual taking several thousand coins valued at 30k a piece.

Fully upgraded relic is a huge invenstment, and imo shouldn't be helped out by a shell unless the shell does more than dynamis. If the only benefit you see is 5% more damage from someone that makes up 5% of the total damage, is it really worth taking 10-20M away from everyone else in the shell to do it? Also the person should be getting a majority of the coins on their own, and the ls is helping them get those extra few. And of course, if the person is getting all the coins from runs, they should be paying for the hourglass.

And lol at 1H sword being uber. Damage proportional to hp does not mean I have 2k hp, so I hit for 2k a swing. Relic horn is the only relic that is overpowered. 7mp/tick from double ballad blows away anything else.

I never thought I'd say this, but... for once I agree with you Peregrine ^^

Quattro is almost finished upgrading to Aegis, and Mariox is almost finished with the 2nd Excalibur on quetz, also
