Sony's E3 overall? It was alright.
Slow slow slow slow slow slow SLOW start. Way too much about the move. Montage movie after montage movie. Lots of talking about 3D. They showed KZ3 and then just talked about a lot of information. It slowed down a lot.
Then KB came on stage and honestly? It was awesome. He is the man and everything he said about staying up late to get a trophy and how he commented that even though we may fly different flags (ms, sony, nintendo, etc), we all deep down are gamers, is true. Gamers who want games. He honestly made the E3 show for Sony.
They showed some decent stuff for the PSP, including God of War Ghost of Sparta, Ys, 3rd Birthday, VC2, and Parasite Eve. Although they were part of a montage video, no actual live gameplay being shown so that was a damper.
The Playstation + premium service was something that was talked about for a while now. Pretty much Sony's version of XBL, but you don't have to pay for it if you don't want to. Everything that is free right now will still be free. You'll just pay for the premium service for the extra benefits.
Then they announced both Medal of Honor with an HD remake of Frontline from the PS2, which to me is amazing because that game jump started FPS on the PS2. And with Dead Space 2, a PS3 version of DS: Extraction with move support. Pretty neat stuff.
And then GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABE. I thought it was funny how he was joking and apologizing at the same time toward Sony for all his remarks in the past, especially when he said "I was introduced to Kevin Butler who was the VP of sharpening objects.." lol. But yeah Portal 2 on PS3 is gonna be pretty good.
Gran Turismo 5 on 11/2/10. A release date finally. That will definitely give Forza3 a run for it's money. Infamous 2 was briefly shown and definitely looks different, Cole is pretty much recreated, slated for 2011. Showed a short trailer for FFXIV as well.
And then for the finale, Twisted Metal on the PS3, with complete online multiplayer. Hooooooooooooot shit.
Overall presentation: It had a boring as all hell start, but it finished up with a boom. Kevin Butler and Gabe Newell pretty much saved the conference. They ended the conference with games that looked great, and I think it was a good closing point.

Overall E3?
Nintendo wins hands down, with it's going back to roots style of presentation with classics such as Zelda, DK, etc -- while presenting the 3DS with promising developer support. Only thing I could really say to criticize was that its a lot of nostalgia titles shown. No real new IP's or sequels to recent IP's.
Sony is a close second. Had a super slow start. Spent way too much time talking about 3D. 3D is a nice innovation and I'm sure it adds to gameplay, but that's going to cost thousands of dollars to fully utilize those features. I won't be buying a 3DTV anytime soon so a lot of what they were talking about won't be experienced by many when it first comes out. In due time yes, but when it's first available? I highly doubt many people will see what it's capable of outside of the people in the audience. It did show good features of the move with it's 1:1 ability along with it's compatibility with games such as Socom, GT, Killzone, etc., and ending with solid games such as Portal and Twisted metal. Also, Kevin Butler.
Microsoft, tsk. It showed some decent games such as Gears 3, Halo, and MGSRising, but spent way too much time on Kinect. Unlike Sony's move, I've yet to see anything worthwhile for Kinect. Yeah it's a nice piece of technology, but all of the games that they showed for it both last year and this one is little arcady type ones. Pet tigers, red balls, etc. Closest thing is a dance game and I don't know anyone in real life or on my friends list that plays those. The things they did with the device such as selecting menus and voice speaking is just plain simpler on the controller. I just don't see the justification in buying one yet. ESPN is the only non video game thing that interests me on the 360. New system redesign is overdue, hopefully it solves most of the E74 issues.
Overall good presentation this year.
