Early going in FFXI

Started out on Slyph back around the first summer after the game was released with a character named Daine. First job I leveled was WAR...My weapon of choice? Scythe. My preferred support job? RDM...Can you tell I wanted to be a Dark Knight yet? I eventually ditched /RDM and took up /MNK like I should have in the beginning, but I never ditched the scythe. I started out selling fire crystals and eventually moved my way to fishing up Moat Carp for 4k a stack. I thought it was great money back then. After that I unlocked DRK and eventually got it to 32, and at that point, was forced to quit.

Oh, and I also took my NIN to 10, just so I could dual wield axes with my WAR. At the time no one was doing that, from what I remember...Aren't I the trend-setter? :P

Now that I think about it, I think that I thought that your skill level in a weapon only affected what weapon skills you could use...Man I sucked back then...lol.

My first character wasn't named Osse. I started back with the JP language version before the NA release. My first character's name was Sirdragonlordsepherothdarktidusxxx. Since I didn't speak Japanese, and I didn't even have a proper keyboard for it at the time, I just typed in jibberish whenever they asked me anything. I also spent a good deal of time shouting in Jeuno, in jibberish JP symbols for course. The JP just assumed I was mentally challenged in some way, and so were rather nice to me in large part.

I first leveled as WAR/WHM, as was the fashion at the time. Back then, subjob items were hard to come by, so even WAR 20/WHM 2 was pretty sought after for xp. We called it the poor man's MNK, and MNK was refered to as the Grappler. I also wore an onion on my belt, which was also in fashion at the time.

I was the first to have a full alliance entirely of lv 10 WAR's chaining EP-DC lizards in Kon. Highlands for 4-7 xp per kill. That might not seem like much to those of you accustomed to slow chains of IT mobs, but when you can kill quickly (up to 10-12 mobs per hour) it adds up fast. This was of course the start of the WAR cannon parties so many people enjoy today, but you don't have to thank me now.

For gil, we'd all head to the Dunes and camp VE for hours on end. Of course, we referred to him as Liberty Emperor, on account of the War. I got the drop 4 or 5 times myself, but it wasn't nearly as much profit as people lead you to believe... they really don't NPC for a whole lot.

I lol'd so hard at the bolded parts.

I recall discovering early on that those Yag necklaces were selling for 2-3k on the AH, I didnt know about Norg fame back then and 2k a necklace was easy money to a struggling new player. :)
