Earn what you have

Ooo, I was in that party as the bard lol I was getting annoyed that he didn't have the crystal and wound up waitin there for an hour. I did get three levels in that party after Reya left though, so it wasn't that bad after I completely revamped the party lol

Hopefully you did well with your lesson plans Reya. :D

lol thanks! I'm glad the party went over great. I still felt really really bad about leaving. The lesson went by great. The kids were awesome and really liked my unit. Gooo Jurassic Park Toys!!!

lol vang u have enough flames to toot your own horn. let us keep this one on topic. :P

Rank means less than level, which also means little. Really, I've been playing the game since PS2 release, and I'm still only level 61, rank 5. Does that make me a noob? Maybe, but I spend lots of my time doing other things other than leveling. I think it was nice of you to help him out and get his crystal though, Reya.

The concept here is that, in theory at least, if you've got Rank 5 you should have at least 1 job 45+ and have SOME idea of how to work in a party, what's expected of you, etc etc etc.

And yes, Rank has to be EARNED. If you've got it before you can do it yourself, then you didn't earn it. It bothers the hell out of me when LSs take level 30 peeps and hold their hands through Rank 5. I've refused to do so more than once for my RL friends.

And yes, while search comments are the best way to seek out new party members, even that can go awry on a non-infrequent basis. ></) I can recall several incidents involving THFs with great gear, good level, good sub, appropriate rank, and decent search comment.... with absolutely NO idea how to do a SATA properly, winding up with something that should in theory speed the party up and make things easier instead causing the first voke to take excessive damage, hate to wander all over the place before the idiot decided to use his stinking SATA macro, have him finally miss the damn mob as it's rampaging throughout the party, and have me finally wind up saying "Screw it, we're not messing with this anymore."

*.* thank you......

My guess is most everyone got to rank 5 before they "should" have. Who the hell wants to choco everywhere?

My rl friends helped me do it, at around lvl 25 or so. I spend a lot of time researching my job, and the game itself. Probably more than what is healthy. I don't think I suffered by not waiting till lvl 45 to get rank 5, nor has anyone else. If anything by taking the air ship I've saved people gil on choco rentals. :P

I don't think the game was intended for people lvl 20 to use airships ( . .);

edit:

I mean.. like first being lvl 20.. I mean honestly, lvl 20's can solo rank 4 mission

I got rank5 when i was around 65 on my first job, rank6 when i turned 70.

And what about those people who did lots of shit but nothing to show off?

I know we've been talking about earning and some people think that missions and rank aren't earning.

Yet, what is the difference between the reward of getting the airship pass versus some really nice rare/ex weapon you get off that NM you've been hunting? Obviously you need to be a certain lvl to hunt the nm or at least help. If you do your missions and get your airship pass later in game, that's fine. Yet, if you have a high rank, I think it's safe to say you should be expected to know something about the game >: )

that's what I love about CoP... Capped missions XD

Btw i was rank 10 at level 60 n i think that was the lowest an NA got rank 10 at.Tanked the dude along with my ninja friend twistedninja ( /bow he quit) it was fun and i was just tired of lfg-ing all day n night so thought i should hit the ranks.

I tend to use Rank as a part of the sorting criteria for selecting party members... First, is their subjob appropriate? Next, is it fully leveled? Then rank, and finally search comments. While there are certainly exceptions to that process, that's generally the way it goes.

So I don't really approve of holding people's hands through all their rank missions. I'm not saying that having it done for you makes you a bad player, I'm just saying that it's generally not a good idea to encourage it, because there are a LOT of folks out there that really, really suck, yet somehow manage to get rank 5 (or in some cases, even 10).

Personally, anything from rank 6-10 doesn't matter to me. The only thing they benefit from getting rank 5 fast is not a bad thing. It gives you what: airship pass and longer signet. Big woop. Only thing I see rank good for is up until 6 so you can do ZMs. Whats the difference from 6-10? Longer signet and better use of CP. I personally dont judge anyone on rank for pts. Its all SJ lvl/type, search comment, equip, area access, then maybe rank if its a rank 1 lvl 50+(have seen it before). That's just my take on the whole rank thing.

Back on subject, it is sad people who don't learn their job or the game in general having everything, like money and equipment just handed to them, kinda throws the game off balance. Another thing that affects this is PLs. Another thing is quests/AF/Genkai. People should get help, yes, but stress HELP, not HAVE DONE FOR THEM. That way they have a feeling of earning and not just getting. They will appreciate themselves and their job much more that way.

There's my 2 gil :D

I've had rank 3s in my party that kicked total ass, and rank 10s that make you wonder how they even got to the lvl their at.

You can look at it this way. A lot of people love questing, and doing missions, where as a lot of people love to party, and fight.

I rank 3 person probably enjoys partying more than questing, so it is quite likely they know a hell of a lot more about their job, and other jobs than the guy who spent all his time getting to rank 10.

Just a theory.

I see a little flaw with that logic. Normally when I seek, for example, I tend to do other stuff and use different subs. Like id I'm farming I'll sub THF, if I solo I sub SAM, or if I want to get to Jeuno in a hurry, I'll sub my 18 BLM. I personlly would look at the search comments first. I always make sure that my coments say what I am able to sub in an exp PT.
