im picking up a 360 later next month, and morrowind looks really good, but i dont want to ruin the past games or not understand any of it. do the elder scrolls tie together, or are they like FF, just full of RPG goodness that everyone loves?

I played Elder Scrolls 3 for a good while...never did find the story though. I don't think you are missing much.

story's there but its alot more like gta then eq. 3 is cheap you should pick it up.

I've played Elder Scrolls III on the PC and the story does take some work to follow but the game is largely free-form and as such it's entirely what you make of it. Be good or be evil, lie cheat and steal or be a saint....alot like the real world in some respects. Elder Scrolls IV - Oblivion has Patrick Stuart (StarTrek:TheNextGeneration) and Sean Bean (LordOfTheRings 1, 2 and 3) as main character voice acters so I'll get it for that alone.....but I'm a game geek lol :D

I didn't know that, thats awesome.

And they do tie in together but mostly as references to the past that take no more than one sentance to describe. That and the world is always the same and the races are re-used.

Dont bother with one and 2 they're extremely hard to play by my standards. The original is like a RPG version of Doom.

You can pick up Oblivion and not miss anything. Each story is basically contained within each game. They may make referance to something that happened in another game but it is in a historical text and adiquitly described. These games are completely open ended, almost to a fault. Often times I found myself asking "What was I supposed to be doing?" in regards to the main storyline because of all of the side quests and dungeons I encountered along the way.

...so, im going to get lost, play for like 500 hours, get my character up to 99, and suddenly beat a really hard mob and beat the game? wow, it IS like everquest! i think i may get it, but not first day. i want PDZ!

My fav. moment in morrowind:
I was running cross country to get to a camp on the east coast of the island when suddenly I run into a tent camp wit a statue in the middle
"WTF?"
"zomg! its full of orcs"!!
I proceed to sneak around and murder them one at a time, almost dieing in the process. After looting the corpses I know have a full set of orcish chain mail (the best med. class armor b4 the expansions) and a baddass 2-handed axe.

That happened out of the blue and that village had no point in being there, exept to add a layer of culture and depth. You learn that orcs live in bands and attack citys occasionaly. Out of the blue and an awesome touch. 8)

I just picked Moorwind up this week from the bargin bin at gamestop, and I can see that this is going to be a hell of a long game. Its so hard now that I am geting stronger, to not just go in to a town and slaughter everyone there.

I am looking forward to the 360 version.

Thats the funnest thing! You can kill gaurds and get away with it if you don't mind having to fight them every time they see you. btw thats really good for skillups. :)

Yeah the game has slowly degraded from me doing quests and playing the game properly, to more of a grand theft auto mass killing spree, where I kill anything that moves (unfortunately it also includes characters important for the plot). It is fun to be a real bastard sometimes. I will just wait for the new one to play the game properly I guess. I did notice that i level up incredibly fast when I kill everyone, more so than playing properly.
