The arcade system isn't going to start selling anymore units. Most people don't even know the arcade unit exists. Being cheaper than the wii is great, but it's taking way too huge of a hit by not having the hard drive. If you could plug in any hard drive it would help the system out massively, but that won't be happening any time soon.

The $299 price will be the hard one to beat on sony's end.

Sad to say, but it's true. Anyone who wanted the PS3 as a BluRay player has already gotten it, so they can't keep pushing that. And although the $399 price point really is a damn steal for what you are getting, it lacks backwards compatability which to me is one feature they should damn well keep. They're basically just throwing over 1000 titles in the trash by not having the PS3 play them.

i knew about this for awhile, im actually grabbin an arcade model since i already got a hard drive, im only gettin it so i can mod it XD

Eh, I've got 3 friends on the fence right now about it still. I'm sure they aren't alone.

My friend is trying to convince his wife that they need a bluray player, and that a PS3 would be perfect.

His main argument? "Ironmannnnn..."

So far it's not working.

I still think the casual gaming community will go for the arcade. They probably don't care about the harddrive since it comes with a memory card. Also if they already have a PS3 and Wii, then they might go for the cheaper version.

I agree that the 299 price tag is the best deal in gaming lol.

The 360 was my third console and I didn't even consider the Arcade sku. I have for that matter, never actually met someone in real life with an arcade. I suspect the only people that are going to get that are parents buying a console for their kids who specifically request an Xbox 360 over their Wii - so they'd have be too old for the Wii yet too young for buying their own console.

Exactly, plus remember since most of us are in our 20's early 30's now, we can afford and get the better systems.

Remember kids still make up a huge part of the gaming community. Every place in town here sales out of all the models for PS3, 360. So yeah they do sale. Parents will get that cheaper version more times then not. Also some college students on a very small fixed budget will go for it as well.

You gotta realize though, kids that age are mostly buying the Wii.

Strange that the Arcade 360 will be considered inferior due to its lack of a harddrive, while the $250 Wii doesn't have one either. Of course, if the Wii had a harddrive version, the normal one would suddenly appear a lot suckier even if nothing changed about it.

There is a big difference between the lack of a HDD of the 360 and no HDD on the Wii. While the Wii doesn't have a HDD it has something similar, solid state memory, like that in an iPod. It will hold VC/WiiWare games, save files, etc. A 360 without a HDD can not save games, hold arcade games, updates, etc. There is a huge difference. In the case of owning a 360 without a HDD you'd need a memory card, which the Arcade bundle has. However, you can't really do jack with it. Isn't the HDD even required for Xbox Live?

Just a rather silly side note, the 512 MB memory card for the 360 is $50 and the 20 GB HD is $60. How retarded is that? The Arcade bundle comes with a 256 MB memory card. I think Nintendo makes better use of their MB's though since they don't have a HDD. So you can't really say a 512 MB memory card with an Xbox 360 is equivalent to the Wii and its memory out of the box.

This is true, console gaming has evolved. But remember some people just want to play the games believe it or not, and could care less about wallpapers, DLC, storing media. Before the new gen, memory cards were all that were used for gaming (ps2 harddrive, hardly anybody had them so they don't count). So people live with it.

We're talkin' about memory devices now, catch up.

lol I am caught up, which is why I said gaming has evolved, but everybody on this board would be considered hardcore gamers, and hardcore gamers are technically the minority of gaming. Just because you see eveyone on this board, and your friends all having the best SKU doesn't make it so nation wide.

I remember January when I got my 360, I was looking around for a premium model and was having trouble getting one. Had to buy it from Radioshack. None of the gamestops , circuit cities or best buys had a single premium or elite model, but they all had arcade models. ALL OF THEM. In a 45 minute radius.. I'm talking from Stamford to Waterbury here.

Just because your store is sold out of the arcade, doesn't make it nation wide. Its probably not actually them being sold out, but put in back to make room for things that someone would actually want to buy.

Don't worry about that. The poor guy completely missed what I said to begin with. He thinks I'm talking about his OP idea for some reason. :chairshot:

Well I did misinterpret your comment my bad.

More store sells all models of all systems. Hell, I still sell the damn White PS2 SingStar bundles when I get them in ever so rarely lol

The premium model of the 360 has always been the most popular. Maybe it's because when people ask me, it is the one I recommend because it has everything you need for a good price, most bang for your buck sort of thing. Just like when I sold PS3s when there was more than one unit, I would always sell the better one, even though it was more.
