Ok so I checked my email today and look what I found in my inbox:

"Hi,

This is virgoods.I am Emma, from virgoods.

We think you are a good player in FFXI. So we hope we can buy gils from you. Can you contact with me if you have time? It¡¯s my pleasure if you can reply to me.

My MSN: [email protected]
My Yahoo:[email protected]

Sincerely yours,
Virgoods FFXI Team"

That's copy pasted quote unquote. I noticed it was also sent to the following: [7 other people with accounts on popular webmail hosts - gmail, hotmail, yahoo]

Subject line was just, "hi, nice to meet you", and the person that sent this to me was "white stan" <[email protected]>

Has anyone else gotten anything like this? I wanna know where they got my email address and why they want to buy gil from me. Gonna try and send an email to em asking wtf is up.

Wait, are they selling gil or buying? ;x

not to be a negative nancy but it sounds kind of fake, rmt buying gil? having a yahoo account instead of an email from the actual rmt website domain?

Is it me or does anyone else find it funny that the person addressed themselves as (Emma) has an e-mail called bigbirdstan?

That's also a very terrible subject line. It's either a prank or a very badly written scam. Delete and move on.

RMT (not the farmers, but the company) buy gil all the time... so it could very well be real. Like others though i think it is highly unlikely... unless you've purchased gil before from this group (if they are indeed an RMT group) they would have no way of knowing your email (i'd think..)

besides, i don't think the OP is going to pay much attention to it. He just wanted to see if anyone else was getting the same email.

or they can easy look up your email in forums >_>

not really, most forums do not make that information public. Some allow you to send emails through a forum based email system, but they don't give the actual addy out. Check out the profiles here, you'll notice none of them (at least the 10-20 i checked, and i'm pretty sure VB doesn't allow it at all) have their email addy displayed.

edit: well, unless they display their MSNIM information... since a SN for MSNIM is a hotmail account.

Well... if they came here they could click his button right under his name that says "Send a message via Yahoo! to Excalibr" and paste the contents of the email (Or write his down and add it to a different one which is what it looks like happened) and he would end up with the message.

Thats probably what happened. Other spammers have recently shown up on the sight as well, so I think we have their attention.

Sounds to me like it's a "You give us your gil, and paypal information and we'll run off with lots of money both in game and out of game!"

Don't do it... And besides, you'll be branded forever a gilseller :p

That's what I figured had happened - they got my email off one of the many FF forums I'm a member of. That's why I wanted to see if anyone else was getting emails like this. The person replied today when I asked em where they got my email and the fact that I play FF. All they said was, "secret ^^ sorry to interrupt you".

Sounds to me like just another scam. They obviously don't know me very well tho or they'd know I quit a month ago.

DO NOT WAN'T

(caps)

lolVirgoods

they used to spam the local and trade channels in Guild Wars, usually in the largest cities. Their spammage usually went along these lines:

"VIRGOODS.COM the fastest gold service! 100% customer satisfaction, 10 minute delivery straight to you!! http://www.virgoods.com"

(Straight to you, because Guild Wars does not have an inbox function)

Seeing that email made me giggle a little bit, thinking of my days seeing rampant RMT spam before FFXI. (at least in this game, they're a little less obtrusive IN the game).

SCAMMMMMMM
SCAMMMM
Excalibur =/ i been back to game for 2 weeks now dude see if u can come back to game.Anyways that e-mail you got is a total scam.Once someone tried the same exact thing on me lol.Don't buy it

I got the exact same e-mail, to the T. The dude offered me $14 per million and wanted to buy up to 100M. I don't think it's a scam, but he got my e-mail off the windower website forums. Still, my gil is mine!

Windower website forum? I'm not entirely sure what that is but I'm assuming it has something to do with a windower website forum, and since I played on PS2 I'm sure I've never been there.
