I thought it would be cool to have a thread where we could share our stories about times when things went horribly wrong, when your blinding heroism blew up in your face, or just about being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The other day I started SMN again, re-determined to finally get all the avatars. I made up some macros and headed to battle against Shiva. Everything is going well for about 45 seconds. Carbuncle is attacking and its time to use Astral Flow. I smash my 'astral flow' macro. Nothing happens. I freeze like a deer in headlights.

Shiva starts casting Diamond Dust
/s Mother of god...
Pasquale takes 170 points of damage
Pasquale is defeated by Shiva

Turns out when I made my macro, I spelled 'Flow' with an '8'. SpellCheck ftw.

A few weeks ago, while BLM, I was chocobo-ing around tahronghi when I saw someone being killed my an elemental. I leapt off my bird and cast a spell to pull hate. Elemental was {easy prey} so I figured I'd have no problem kicking its ass.

I think you mean Air Elemental, since they're the only elemental with access to Silence.

On topic, dying after a Convert in an area where you have no business dying isn't much fun. It might be funny later on, but not when it happens and people are watching. Alcohol and Convert don't mix that well.

Changed, thanks. ^^ I couldn't remember which one it was. All I remembered was the pain.
 
Cyber mistells for me are the most embarassing moments. ;(

Thinking of excuses are the most fun though!
 
Kicking Shadow Dragons ass over and over again when no one is looking. . . but the only time someone does, getting petrified and slowly dying when theres not a damn thing you can do about it ._.; Then having them examine your dead body and walk away.
 
I got owned as 68war in Palborough Mines because my train was too big. Palborough-freakin-mines! I used to gilfarm trains there at 34!

I've since stopped 'entertaining' myself while waiting for BC/KS groups to assemble.
 
I got killed as a 74bst fighting lvl60 spiders in boyadha tree.... I got cocky as a bst/nin and poison destroyed me... Yeah, that was damned embarrassing.
 
Before the expansion came out level 68-70 for a bst was total hell, there just wasn't a good place to level solo. For days I was in the tunnel in the Boyhada tree <the one with the three mandies in it> and for days on end I fought VT steelshells, dying very often.

Later I was introduced to someone who said, "Oh yeah you are the bst that was always dead in the tunnel" What an embarassing thing to be recognized for!

You're not going to like this, but I remember you dying there and heading out to give you raise. :biggrin:
 
Being a young Bright-eyed new rdm and thinking Diaga was a second tier Dia. I pulled so many links that day

To elaborate on my own experience with this:

I was in a party fighting like normal. Im usually really fast with the menus and I dont usually have to look at what Im clicking. It was going good for a while and I had just got enough TP for Blade:Retsu. So I quickly tap the menu and use it. Next thing I know:

-Mijin Gakure-

Alerith falls to the ground.
Alerith defeats the Dancing Weapon.

Party: Uhhhh....
Me: Oops.....
 
Making it all the way up to the spire of Holla in record time with no fake MRs. We get in, and I pop my reraise scroll, and end up in Jeuno... All I saw was the instant part ; ;
 
Well as far as I can remember. I was a lvl 60ish rdm and decided to explore Bostineaux Obliquette, and went down that sewer hole, not knowing I'd fall into a pit of aggroing slimes. I didn't have any buffs on so tried to heal myself and everything or get out.

I managed to cast escape just in time and it sent me out to West Ronfaure, yet I died during escape... so my dead lvl 60 rdm body was outside in West Ronfaure and I had a whm come out to R2 me.

That's almost as bad as when our war/nin in promy-holla died but had RR up and accidently clicked no and HPed and then we won that boss fight so he missed out on the win for promy-holla.
 
Probably the time I died to a DC crab that failed to charm 8x in a row, even after Tame actually landed and everything.That and my first Kirin fight on SMN...getting two dozen "too far" messages and seeing BPs miss when they were actually close enough, wanted to crawl into a hole and die.
 
Was fighting Shiva with a party, accidentally changed my macro setup so I quickly went in the magic list, and manually picked my spell. When I ended up in Jeuno and realized that I accidentally casted warp... I felt like a fool.

Oh yea they lost to Shiva by a tiny bit too ; ;
 
I warped straight out of a dynamis bastok run once XD I had to teleport and take a chocobo back ~.~

Sadly, i have ALMOST done that too, as a PLD at around 55 though, but still!
 
Well there was that one time I refreshed a MNK/WAR...
