So I've been camping empress hairpin and I'm doing a terrible job so far. Night A- 2 hours of camping waaay too many people there but I wanted to see Valkrum emperor and see where people were killing Damselflys so I stuck around unfortunately I didn't see it and every single damselfly was immediately killed in like 20 different places... I learned basically nothing (Saturday evening I shoulda known better).
Night B- 5-6 hours of camping just me and one other guy (who I met the night before because he was camping it then too), nice I'm not so sure if he was trying to trick me or whatever with his advices but again I didn't see the Valkrum Emperor and I was killing every fly in a two block radius (a third player would come in once in a while for like 2 of the hours). I know there are four placeholders so I tried different combinations but flys wander in and out of the area like it's their job. Tried killing nearest the beach, to the left of the beach in that sort of cul-de-sac away from selbina, around the palm tree sort of mini oasises, north of there in the open dunes, and finally up on the hill above there. I've read multiple sites and they say pops every hour, gotta kill placeholders. The guy camping it said every two hours. The posts on most of those sites are pretty old so who knows maybe it is 2 hours.
What I want to know are some truths about this thing that people have found. How often does it pop nowadays? How do you make it pop? If you dont kill the placeholders will it still pop? Do all four placeholders have to be dead at once for it to pop? If you only kill placeholder "A" let's say, does that mean it will pop in that spot when its time and that I dont have to worry about killing the other one when I'm alone in the area? Where are the 4 placeholders located (be very descriptive here)? Is there a way to tell which damselflys are placeholders? ahhhhhhhhh.... help! lol.
