End-Game Item E-Peen Rating!

Kk I am getting a little fuzzy on what peopel think of e-peen. Yes I read the OP, but even that seems a bit off.

My understanding of E-Peen Items is basically an Item that is so good/rare that lacks a decent disputable substitute, or one that has a close enough substitute, but it prohibitively expensive. I.E. Ridill, and to the latter, Dusk Gloves +1.

I'd even go so far as to add the clause that you are such a good player that you get/got rewarded by your asscoiates with an item that while you richly deserved/earned, would have been better used by someone that passed it out of respect for you. I.E. a WHM that's leveling WAR(60) that the LS gets a Ridill For (Lack of better description).

Crimson Cuisses (7) Awesome piece, requires a LS to sacrifice thier time for one member.

Defending Ring (10) Rediculous amount of luck involved... Exclusivity, super rare drop...

Hecatomb Cap (7) Best weapon skill piece ever, for head.

Herald's Gaiters (10) most luxurious piece of gear for pretty much any job. I't urine in the thieves' coffee, but at the cost of it's rarity.

Ice Gauntlets (?) Too lazy to look these up, idk if the're good or not.

Koenig Cuirass (8 ) Good, but iirc, there's a lot(in frequency, not scale) of better gear out there, and most pld argue that AF2 is better now?

Novia Earring (7) good, but probably one of the more situational pieces of gear out there.

Sha'ir Manteel (7) Good. Pauin to get/cost prohibitive, and can be replaced by Assault gear.

Speed Belt (8 ) Swift belt is ALMOST as good, and free, this is one of the few "E-Peen" items that there are. YES, you could use Swift belt, but this puts you at that higher level. It's Defining.

Vivian Ring (9) Kinda in the same vein as the swift belt. But limited to the MP intensive jobs really, Whm, Smn, and Brd. Yes, it's good, but calculating the time/effort needed to get it (Luck aside....) it's just E-Peen.

Kk I am getting a little fuzzy on what peopel think of e-peen.

Well honestly, the most important thing to the voting and overall result of this topic is that each person stays consistant throughout. As long as people don't change their own opinions as we progress then we should get a nice overall result.

Wave Three is up. 2 dynamis, 2 homam, 2 nashira, 2 salvage, one fishing rod that's more rare than most relic, and the usual surprise item (think about it before you answer!).

Oh and of course, if you haven't voted for Wave One or Two yet you still can and I'll update the list as needed. And for anyone wondering, I've been changing 0 votes to 1 (since 1 is the minimum), averaging any "double votes" that aren't too absurd (I think someone said 6 to 8 for k.club once so I made it 7), and discarded any stupid votes.

Duelist's Chapeau ( 8 )
Ebisu Fishing Rod (7)
Homam Gambieras (6)
Homam Manopolas (4)
Morrigan's Robe (10)
Nashira Manteel (2) - it sucks.
Nashira Seraweels (7)
Usukane Sune-Ate (10)
Valor Surcoat ( 8 )
Vampiric Claws (10) - Only non-blunt weapon monk can get in the game, and they're rare as hell too.

Wave Three:
Duelist's Chapeau (6) pretty over powered in combination
Ebisu Fishing Rod (5) 5 points for rarity/difficulty only
Homam Gambieras (3) great tp pieces but pretty common
Homam Manopolas (3) same
Morrigan's Robe (7) Its real usage is a little bit limited, but it definitely shows off the ability of a LS
Nashira Manteel (3) sorta useless except for a couple of spells, but nice looking
Nashira Seraweels (4) nice for rdm
Usukane Sune-Ate (5) great tp piece, relatively rare.
Valor Surcoat (6) best pld body piece in some ways
Vampiric Claws (1) hi2u limbus weapon

Duelist's Chapeau ( 8 )
Unreplacable set of stats, but only usable by RDM though...
Ebisu Fishing Rod ( 8 )
Unbelievable hard to get. Fishing only.
Homam Gambieras (6)
Nice TP feet, but Omega fight is too easy.
Homam Manopolas (6)
Great for PLD and THF, but Omega fight is too easy.
Morrigan's Robe (6)
Rare, but situational and not a true performance standout item
Nashira Manteel (5)
Go go dark boost? It has haste so good for screwing around solo, but I barely use it.
Nashira Seraweels (7)
Only enfeeb leg pieces and makes you look like MC hammer. But only really applicable by end game RDMs for HNMs. Everything else is probably Mahtama pants for effectiveness.
Usukane Sune-Ate (9)
Rare and great leg piece if you can use it.
Valor Surcoat ( 8 )
Not as rare anymore, but still one of the best bodies for plds
Vampiric Claws (5)
Rare, but situational only. Not going to use it to make big numbers.

Why are people rating Morrigan's Robe so low? Its one of the best Salvage pieces. It is arguably the best melee BLU body item, and one of the best RDM items as well. BLM gets less use out of it, but it still stacks igqira, demon's cloak and errant together.

It isn't that hard to obtain, since the NM's are rather easy to kill. Just rare drops. It is however expensive. So it doesn't really show off the LS ability, more so the person's riches. and dedication.

I'd give it a 10 in usefulness, and 8 in how hard it is to obtain, and only because the drop is rare, not because of the difficulty. So 9 overall.

Because it's a single person that does salvage right, so being able to farm salvage consistently only shows the dedication of one person, not the ability of a group of people. So where are all the morrigan bodies then?

Wave Three:
Duelist's Chapeau (8 ) Pretty much the definition of pimp hat.
Ebisu Fishing Rod (9) I rate this so high for the sheer amount of dedication it takes to get one.
Homam Gambieras (4) Spiffy boots for all that can wear.
Homam Manopolas (6) Perhaps best pld hands in the game
Morrigan's Robe (8 ) I give big props to anyone dedicated enough to hunt up all the ores for it.
Nashira Manteel (4) Looks cool, but not overly useful
Nashira Seraweels (6) The Hammer pants every Rdm wants to own!
Usukane Sune-Ate (7) These boots were made for asskicking!
Valor Surcoat (8 ) One of the most identifible pieces in the game. Looks awesome, May be more common these days (In the 2 years I've done Dyna off and on I've personally never see one drop /cry), but still a piece every PLD would kill for!
Vampiric Claws (4) Prob not overly useful, but gets bonus points for being waaaay out of the way to obtain.

Hardly. It takes all but 2 minutes to get to the spot Tres pops from Safehold. Only have to avoid 3 slimes, and 4-5 Taurus.

edit: oh wait, forgot about one of the pit-o-taurus. So like 8 of them. Regardless, Aqueducts isn't that big. Now, the Go! Go! Gobmuffin quest, thats out of the way just for a stupid map.

No, I said it reaquires dedication because you need three items. First one is from a card NPC, the card being somewhat rare. The second being from the boss, and that item can be a rare drop from the boss. The third one is an extremely rare drop from a NM in Arrapago, hence why it requires dedication.

I've heard countless of reports of people sitting at 2/3, only to miss one run due to RL problems on which it drops on. Which means the shell as a whole might have to go another twenty weeks just to get one more 35 drop.

Hence why it requires dedication from a single person in order to get it. And hence why you don't see a lot of morrigan robes, due to the robe being a rare drop. It doesn't require almost any skill on the shell's part to kill the lvl 15 and 35 NM. Now, the boss requires a bit of skill, but the NM itself isn't hard. Weakened, Bhaflau boss is the easiest out of all bosses. The 7 mil cost is what prevents most people from actually finishing the upgrade, or atleast delays it a couple of weeks/months.

Hell, I can solo the astrologer, treasure hunter, bhoot and psycheflayer in arrapago. Neither of them requires a very skilled group to kill. The "skill" lies in being able to survive as a group with minimal equipment and kill as many NM's as possible. But then again, a RDM can solo three NM's per run.

No, what you said is "So it doesn't really show off the LS ability, more so the person's riches. and dedication."

Way to miss the fact that I was neither arguing that it doesn't take dedication of a single player, nor that it wasn't an indication of the money the player has, but that it is still an indicator of LS ability regardless of the effort that a particular individual puts in. Kudos for you on the shit you can do solo, make a good times thread, but its completely irrelevant to any post i made. But I guess this is par for the thread for your self-admitted bloated egotism.

The relative effort that an individual spends on his/her specific piece is not relevant when it comes to a more objective measurement, say for example time spent on attempts for a certain piece done with a group of people, or as you mentioned before, money spent individually (which I never said was contrary to the case.) This is what I said when I replied, that it does shows the ability of a group of people. You may not even give a shit about a salvage piece and still be able finish it if the group gave you all the pieces and you had the money. Completing a piece doesn't mean you were necessarily dedicated or not. I never argued the point of a salvage piece not being indicative of individual effort or wealth, but that your point of that it "doesn't really show off the LS ability" is completely misguided.

"The "skill" lies in being able to survive as a group with minimal equipment and kill as many NM's as possible. " Even you're admitting that seeing an item being completed is an end result of LS "skill" as much as it is wealth and to a lesser extent (and not easily quantifiable) dedication.

If you want to go argue against points I haven't made because you disagree with group activities showing group skill, or because I rated Morrigan's Robe a 6 when the highest rating I've given is an 8, maybe you should make a separate thread.

I'm assuming you've never been to Salvage. If you had, you'd know how little skill is involved in killing the arrapago NM's. The hardest NM in the zone is the Chariot, which can be killed by pretty much any WHM + MNK + BRD. Much skill involved in that, eh? Next tiem you read, try to make note of the "'s. What are "'s used for normally? Either quoting, or...?

The only group dedication is doing the same zone until the item you need drops. The real dedication is individual dedication, since it requires you to attend every run in order to get the items you need. The shell as a whole can be rather big. If you have 36 people, 6 different people can come every run. The shell in itself isn't very dedicated then. But if one person shows up every run, with the other 5 coming off and on, that shows individual dedication, not dedication from the shell.

Dynamis etc. is more of a group effort. Salvage is a group effort on an individual level. It is more dependent on single people than a group. The NM's involved aren't neccesarily hard to pop and kill, with some exceptions such as 6th floor qiqirns in Arrapago, most poroggo madames in zhayolm, but that's mainly because no one have figured out HOW to pop them, not because they are neccesarily hard TO pop.

The hardest monsters in the zone are basically the boses. However, they aren't all THAT hard, and always drop 2 items, thus giving the item you need a roughly 33% chance to drop, in comparison to the roughly 2,5% drop rate or less from the qiqirns. That means that assuming you kill two QQTH every Arrapago, after 50 runs you'll have seen roughly 2 morrigan 35 bodies drop on average. Assuming you go 5 to Arrapago Remenants times a week, that's still 10 weeks in order to get 2 bodies.

That is why morrigan bodies are rare, and why its more of an individual dedication. Not because they require skill, since the QQTH in itself takes no more then, at the most, 2-3 min to kill, or roughly 15-20 min solo.

Speaking of which, this is our current stats since I started keeping track.

Total killed: 112
Total no drops: 104
total %: 7,14%
Estimated %: 9,52%
Bhaflau %: 15%
Silver Sea %: 6,78%
Arrapago %: 3,13%
Zhayolm %: 0%

As you can see, drop rates suck.

edit: don't get me wrong, it IS a LS acomplishment still, since it would be impossible to upgrade without a linkshell. I'm just stating that people that do have upgraded pieces, or close to upgraded pieces, have proved that they are dedicated, since its impossible to upgrade pieces without dedication. It requires an incredible amount of dedication to get Salvage items upgraded, hence why its an individual acomplishment.

Don't get you wrong? you're the one who said it "doesn't really show off the LS ability." In the same paragraph you go from saying it is an LS accomplishment, but then say, "it's an individual acomplishment.[sic]" Did you mean that it is ALSO an individual accomplishment? Sorry, but I already said I never argued contrary so you can stop arguing against straw man concepts. You can also assume all you want, but you'd be wrong, and you can stop going on and on about your unsolicited strategies and drop rate percentages when when the original question as to why there aren't that many Morrigan Bodies was a rhetorical device to show that the group has to be as dedicated as the individuals. Just because a particular area or certain NM can be low manned or soloed, doesn't really mean anything about a completed piece being individual effort rather than a group effort when other people are putting effort along with you.

For that matter how can you say that salvage is an individual accomplishment when drops in dynamis can be just as rare and you're saying its a group effort? Xarc NMs can be done with a small group of individuals as well, and cities can be farmed well with fewer than 6 with a knowledgeable puller.

As I stated before, whether the individual is very dedicated or not doesn't matter if the group can get lucky on certain sets. Its not a good indicator of relative individual dedication when compared with objective time/money spent by the group/individual.

And being able to farm anything as a group and show consistent effort in completing an event is an LS ability. It doesn't matter how dedicated as an individual you are, because you're not gonna get that last piece drop without other people's help. 95% end game in FF is relatively easy in terms of strategy, it is only difficult because it is so repetitive and drop percentages are often bullshit. Being able to deal with that repetition and still get stuff done is one way a LS shows they are skillful.

stop this stupid argument guys, no one cares. this thread is for *fun* remember, everyone has its own opinion.

Duelist's Chapeau: 9 (It's the best relic item, period.)
Ebisu Fishing Rod: 10 (I've never even seen one...)
Homam Gambieras: 6
Homam Manopolas: 5
Morrigan's Robe: 9 (dalmatica+3 sup?)
Nashira Manteel: 6 (play thing for epeen whores)
Nashira Seraweels: 7
Usukane Sune-Ate: 8
Valor Surcoat: 8
Vampiric Claws: ? (I really don't know about this item? I don't know enough about items at a similar level, please enlighten me.)
