I just started playing FFXI a few days ago. I think it's better than World of Warcraft.
Anyways...
Who is the last boss of FFXI?(Hardest)
^how many people does it take to kill that boss
Do you have any pictures of that boss?
Are there dungeons or just really areas that require a lot of people?

There is no "final boss" of FFXI, since there is more than one form of endgame; each has a certain monster that is generally considered the final boss. Some of the hardest(winable) fights would probably be the wyrms(Tiamat, Vrtra, Jormugand), Cerberus, Khaimara, Hydra, and Dynamis Lord. The hardest fight right now is Absolute Virtue, which is presently unkillable; there's a thread discussing him and why he's so hard in this sub-forum if you want to learn more about him.

Usually people use 18-man alliances to kill them and often have more people outside of that alliance; you can kill them with less probably, but 18 is faster and easier. Just about every endgame fight requires a group to do, FFXI has very little solo content.

Closest thing to dungeons would be Limbus, Salvage and Dynamis, which can hold up to 18, 18 and 64 people respectively. They run similar to the instances in WoW, you fight your way through the area until you reach the boss to win the zone. Salvage is different, though, in that when you start, you have all gear removed, your subjob locked, can't cast magic, can't use job abilities, and all of your stats are reduced; all you can do is auto-attack bare-handed and use items. As you kill the smaller monsters on your way to the boss, they monsters drop cells which unlock specific slots of gear or abilities/magic, etc. All 3 events are timed(Limbus and Dynamis have time extensions, while salvage is 100 minutes every time), so you really can't get everything unlocked for everyone.

As for pictures, you can just go to http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Main_Page and look up any monster you want, but here's a few of the bigger ones I mentioned.

Jormugand(Tiamat is a red version, Vrtra is a Purple/black one)

Kirin(fairly minor now, but was a big deal a while ago)

since you named (winable) bosses, do you have any pictures of bosses that haven't been beaten yet (monsters that are too difficult)?

I posted a picture of Absolute Virtue, he's the only thing that's considered unkillable at this time. No one has figured out the trick to killing him yet, he was killable before using different tricks, but SE has removed those options so he is presently unkillable.

so are these bosses just out in the open somewhere or do you have to go to a special area/dungeon?

There are also "final bosses" for the assorted storylines that aren't considered endgame fights. For the original FFXI storylines (told via nation missions) in place when the game first shipped, the final boss is Shadow Lord. For the Chains of Promathia storyline, you're fighting (wait for it...) Promathia.

Otherwise, like Bajaratt pointed out, Absolute Virtue is the ultimate boss... and he's a Dragoon.

he is impossible as drg just imagine it being a good job >,<

Most are out in the open, but Kirin requires you to "pop" him by trading certain items to an hole in the ground and he spawns. Absolute Virtue requires you to pop another monster and after you kill that he has a chance of randomly spawning. Dynamis lord is basically the boss of the last dynamis zone. The rest all have respawn times(1-5 days for some, 3-8 for the others) after they have been killed but don't require any special conditions to spawn them.

All of these "Final" and "Ultimate" bosses require at least a party or full alliance of 18 or more to beat, but if you're looking for a Final boss that is soloable, I'd have to say G5 Maat.
