End Game Taru PLD?

Thanks for all the thoughts, guys I'm kinda understanding more and more about PLD endgame and its help me sift through some ideas.

My question though is I've seen PLD/RDM as a tank combination recently. Would the Taru MP pool play an advantage then or it still like Jamal says?

This is for ouryu, but you would still have the same mp access. It might hold a slight benefit to have more max mp, but when AOE Terror goes off (which is what separates this from the other wyrm fights), you're gonna want more HP/Shield skill/dmg reduction than MP anyway in my opinion.

Edit: Just adding in that if you consider Ballista Endgame, a Taru PLD would in all likelihood wipe the floor with me because of the large mp base. But in any party situation, mp is rarely an issue.

Well, me and Jakey talked and he did JoL PLD/RDM. I'm sure the more MP would allow more spam for hate but with ballad and refresh plus all the + refresh gear and abilities you get like Jamal said its really now issue.

correct, it's more helpful in the short run than anything but say after you die and rest to full you can get hate back that much faster from spamming all your extra unneeded huge mp pool, or say a brd dies or something and you lose a lot of your refresh for a bit, taru mp can help carry you through. more commonly well lvling up say you don't have refresh in your pt(ya I know it sucks) and your puller gets a link, the taru mp can help keep you going when you otherwise might have run out.

and you might argue well if I wasn't a taru I would have lived and I donno I've taken the JoL astral flow 3Xws thing and lived only times I've died to JoL is when I completely run out of mp, usually having to do to losing a refresher or two to AOEs or the boost -> ws massive crazy damage thing which kills just about anyone.

again in the end it's not that important but it has it's uses.

and yes more hp is better it makes it easier for whms and everyone to keep you alive safely but my point was you shouldn't need crazy amounts of it to stay alive with a good whm and way of dealing with the damage you're taking for most things.

and yes taru pld in ballista is pretty nice lol
 
I liked Taru PLDs in exp parties <_<

Their larger MP pool means that they seldom sit at full mp, wasting refresh ticks - and they're fairly self sufficient, only needing Regen III or the occasional (status)-cure. But then again, I think all races can be great PLDs.
 
Let say XMan playing two chars, the first one taru-PLD75, the second one, galka-PLD75. Both got same equipement. Do you think who'll main tank? :ph34r:

All in all, taru can play tank, but can't outtank galka. Galka can play blm, and can't outdmg taru blm :)

This is the basic of Race in FFXI :)
Your playing skill > Race since there is nothing impossible in ffxi.

erm I've outtanked galkas.....

The difference is that galka have to hold hate differently than taru >.>;

You seriously dont know what you are talking about.

Yes, because extra VIT and HP really has bearing on who will be "main tanking", especially when /NIN is the standard.

Ive heard that CHR doesnt effect emity but it does effect killer effects and decrease emnity lost over time IDK if thast right or but but thats what I hear
 
The majority of people say CHR has no effect on hate...and frankly, if it in fact does, it's far too little to even take into consideration. I personally am on the stance that it doesn't effect hate, myself...

Saying a Taru PLD tanks worse than a Galka PLD is incredibly silly, especially when most of their damage reduction comes from their shield proc and Sentinel. If anything it'd seem as though the much higher access to MP gives Taru considerably more room to hate tool with Cure IVs and such, but that's just speculation.

In the end though, race just isn't remotely as big of a factor for any job since you more or less play the job slightly different to adjust to the slight differences, and it balances out anyways. The best PLDs I know are in fact Galka and Elvaan* but I wouldn't for a moment base it on what race they are.

I like what Mish said about "all that's different is how you play the job".

I found this out on Dark Knight with my Taru. I play completely different than a Galka or an Elvaan does, by way of my MP pool and high DEX. I don't hit for mad damage on a single strike, but I can DoT to a large WS with crazy use of Absorb- spells and my moderate dexterity.

Come to holding hate, race has nothing to do with it. Gear and skill does however.
Only thing that is different is survivability.

Taru vs Elvaan in equal gear when shit hit's the fan; Elvaan can take 1 or 2 more hits, and that might be the differance between wipe or no.
But really, that wont happen alot so...
Gogo taru pld! Might not be best suited for pld, but win the cute-race by miles :)

This post is filled with a bunch of retarded biased rumors. Ive tanked all sky gods, jailers besides JoL but jakeys done that, ouryu, cerberus, omega, ultima on both nin and pld tanking, tiamat soon hopefully(always get there to late). Ive never felt inadequate, only problem taru pld can run into is getting to much hate from fat MP pool, ive died 0 times on byakko after tanking him countless times /war.

Get 1250 HP then eat a pasta dish puts u around 1400 your fine after that. people talking about galka plds being the best imo there the worst, but eh. /nin you should have refresh and ballad if your ls supply's u proper support, then you get bored just looking for ppl to cure cause you have all this MP to spend.
