So I'm not liking my hoplites harpes. I haven't really liked them since I got them. I have the cash to buy a harpe, but I only want to if it's really worth it. The thing about daggers is that it's not really a clear-cut DPS difference between them.

I'd love to get a sirocco, but I don't think anybody is going to want to go. Seems like it would be a loooooong camp. People barely wanted to come along for 6 hours to get their optical hats, much less more than that to get some random thf a little knife. For those of you who have it, how did you go about it? I'd love to wear it in exp parties from 71-75, but that probably won't be happening.

So, what is the best knife setup for a THF at 75 that doesn't include the mandau? My thought would be perseus' harpe and blau dolch or sirocco. I suppose the blau dolch would be easier to acquire. Few hours of farming, throw down the 2.4mil for it. But it's not a great mainhand, right? I hear the latent doesn't activate on your WS, so that would make it a much nicer offhand. But that sirocco is sick fast, and that added wind damage 100% process probably adds up because of it. I don't think I could decide without testing them both.

Most of the nice jambiyas aren't even sold on our server, so it seems, so those are basically out of the question. I'd like to upgrade to something better than hoplites to ride on till I can get the money for blau dolch or the people for sirocco/perseus'. Maybe I could lay down the money for a harpe or a behemoth's +1, or both. That attack +10 is pretty nice looking, but the dmg on it really isn't impressive. My thinking is to upgrade in this order.

For mainhand: Hoplites Harpe < Harpe < Perseus' Harpe < Mandau
For offhand: Hoplites Harpe < Behemoth's Knife +1 < Sirocco Kukri / Blau Dolch

I find the likelihood that I'll get a mandau to be about .00000001%, but there it is for completion's sake.

So, discuss.

I'm completely ignorant on all points except:

All of the Perdu-style weapons (including the pre-Perdu stuff like Maneater, Blau Dolch, etc.) with the latent higher DMG, and hidden acc+ and att+ while the latent's in effect ...

The latent is in effect a. when TP is less than 100% and b. during WS. (I think it's because for a WS, the TP is subtracted, *then* the WS is performed.)

blau dolch is just about the best mainhand dagger out there, atleast as far as im concerned. low delay, high dmg. the +attack and +acc latent effect is on all the time as far as a thf in a merit PT environment is concerned. As soon as you have 100% tp you should be SA or TA + WS.

I find myself subbing WAR about as often as i can in parties as well at lv 75. with the right gear you'll get amazing results. double attack + triple attack with a weapon like Blau (176 delay) as you mainhand... plus haste... in my opinion you'll be right up there in DPS with your average monk or WAR

granted ive never been up against *amazing* monks or wars... but i know i've impressed quite a few people who were wary of getting a thf and heading out to places like Mamoolja SP.

in closing... blau's a must. Perseus would be nice to play with, but the delay... i dunno i like attacking fast. Sirocco's the best offhand you're gunna get. i joined a LS a long time ago that were camping it, i stayed at the camp for about 4-5 days waiting in line behind their members getting theirs, then finally getting mine. definatly worth all the trouble. I have yet to bother with the Jambiya weapons, or any of the new daggers to be honest. im very content with my blau/tatami or blau/sirocco :)

edit: latent on blau if you didnt click link: +16 attack +5 acc hidden

Oh seriously? It activates on WS too? That is insane. Well then yeah, that makes it a hot main hand. I must have been misinformed. That makes things easier. Blau main sorocco sub. That's probably what I'll go for. Just keep my Behemoth's +1 till I can find a party for sorocco, and buy blau as soon as I'm 72 (and acquire like another 1.3mil). That'll actually work out better.

Ok question. Perseus vs blau? Which wins. I'm guessing people will say blau but I'd like to hear an argument for perseus. That 37 dmg must count for something.

As for /war, yeah I'll get into that once I'm a couple levels higher. Atm I'm relying on shadows kind of a lot when I pull aggro or something.

Perseus mainhand, Blau offhand? >_>

I'm no THF, but that just doesn't sound like a horrible combination. If you couldn't equip both at the same time, Perseus would probably lose, since attack is just that effective.

Matter of preference. Pers/blau and blau/SK are both very solid combinations and probably within 1% of each other DoT-wise. I prefer blau/SK for speed.

Freaky speed. Lose a little top end, and gain flexibilty.

P. Harp / Ridill is my favorite to play with

pretty sure that thfs duo sirocco yah? and instead of a perseus, just grab a bat and hit yourself repeatedly over the head, you'll have a better time. The drop rate is atrocious, only seen one in over a month straight of killin X.

/em waits for someone to tell me they got 3 in a week...

At the moment, sadly my thief is just wasting away. I mean my gear is decent, but some pieces are just terrible, mainly my daggers (THF is at the botting of my funding order -.-;;). Using Magnet and mostly Thief's Knife offhand for TH+1. Although, Magnet's is wicked gimpy, I will say I do enjoy the occasional gravity proc, it's a lifesaver sometimes. I've used it to kite mobs when I was in danger, but it's not something I can rely on frequently nor does it last too long either. That aside, Blau/Sirocco is the way to go. Blau may be expensive, but it's the best dagger next to Mandau and perhaps perseus', but a whole hell of a lot easier to obtain.

There are some other choices I've seen neglected, one being X's Knife. Base Damage 34, delay 201 if I recall correctly which isn't anything huge, but it's the side effect which really matters; increases critical hit damage. I've heard it'll increase SA damage alone by 50-100. The downside is it's a rare drop from the Mithra Bounty hunter ENM. I'm also looking into the Knimaira Jambya which has the same stats except added effect of evasion down. The only problem with that dagger is it requires a rare goldsmithing item which is wickedly over priced at the moment (the item is only used for 2 synths and they are neither huge items). My personal hope is the added effect will occur often enough to offset the weaker stats.

lolsword.

X's is sweet due to the fact that both main and offhand gain the crit bonus.

Daylight dagger is probably ok as an offhand but once you get one of the more powerful alternatives like SK/X's/blau as offhand weapons it loses the advantage if the ridiculous acc boost.

Listen to whoever says Blau/SK, they are correct.

SK is much easier to get than PH.

If you have trouble obtaining a SK (like me) then your next best bet is a Misericorde+1.

lol thats cause you play with Serise

Blau/Sirocco is in my personal opinion the best.

I camped my Sirocco thurs-sunday its really not that hard to do as long as you have 2-3 other people to help each time. its a 9 hr-12 hr pop during wind or double wind only if i remember correctly. i actually claimed it each pop but didnt get drop until the very last camp (no TH at all at each camp). i was like 51 thf at the time when i got it lol because i knew it was gonna be a bitch but i camped it on rng/nin and basically tanked him with a nin that couldnt keep hate off me so as long as you have 2 good blink tankers and a whm or rdm maybe brd but not neccessary you should be fine. hell if u have window and need help let me know i know the pain and suffering that comes with it.

Back on topic i have tried stylet + SK and it doesnt compare to blau. even if some thfs say blunt > atk. if you had a great SA and TA gear setup - Stylet is almost breaking cap(for me anyway) so it wasnt that much difference. Stylet i think scored better solo SA and TAs obvisously but as far as WS stacked with either one Blau was much better.

I tried H. Harpe when i was 67 until i got SK at 69 then tossed the piece of junk. Harpe looks to be ok if your not in the range of blau id imagine it would be decent main hand. Misercode +1 is pretty nice but about the same price as harpe? ( i think) that would be a good off hand for blau next to SK like Dowzer said.

Im pretty much rambbling on so i will stop now :)

I've killed it 5 times. Three times nothing dropped, the other two daggers were lotted and I lost :(

The 6th time, I don't count because I saw a group wiping to it. They died at 1% so I grabbed it and invited them after they were raised. Surely enough it dropped, I was going to let them have it but they let me cast lots. I lost. By 50~ points. ; ;

My RDM is gonna wreck that stupid bird.

So what do you need to take the SK NM? Just a blink tank and a healer of some kind with haste?

Thief and White mage can duo it, if they're both moderately skilled. Red mage with proper gear and merits can solo it with Bind/DoT.

Quit complaining Nik!
