First off, about myself. I am a player from Bismarck server, who has been searching other servers for a suitable endgame shell for myself. With SE hinting at serverswitching, some say within the month, and my old linkshell IRON, moving to wow, im kinda stuck on a server where the choices of LS arent very good. One shell bots and hacks, one shell is run by moron's, and the other 2 are too shaky and based on zerg tactics and co-dependancy on hnm's, while good in their own rights and methods, they dont stress the same skill and effiency im looking for.

That all being said, im comming to ask for an outside prespective on the HNM scene on this server. Who's the best, the most effiecent. What are the differences in tactics. I could speak all day with the leaders and memebers of their respective hnm shells, but im asking for someones opinion outside of the box. Comming from IRON, my goal is to stress effiency. I realize alot of shells probably baby their memebers and look for fun. I dont care about this factor. I would like to have a core group of highly skilled players which dont fuck up. Which shell is like this, are there more than one? How are the activity levels? Which shells are suspected botters?

I love this servers economy, I dont see how its anywhere lower than mine on ffxiah, it seems a nice server for gil. Also there seems to be a lack in the huge number of RMT compaired to bismarck. I also have seen quite a large influence of JP members on the server, whereas they are virtually non-existant on my server and barely ever leave DA at all. How does this play into things.

If anyone can answer this in a respectful non-flaming way, please do so. Im not looking to start trouble, just trying to find out where I'd be best suited.

You're probably not going to get a response from people who aren't in one of the endgame linkshells, or if you do the person will have on clue what they're talking about; so unfortunately you're going to have to go to people actually inside the linkshells to really get any useful information.

There's only a couple major linkshells that do everything, that I'm aware of at least, but there are a lot of smaller ones that focus on single aspects of endgame. Of the big, multi-purpose linkshells, I know of Kaizen, Perseverance, Integralis(JP run, don't visit these boards much), HappyAngel(JP/NA), and I think JDA is back(Also JP run).

Honestly, there is some contention between the linkshells here, so getting your responses in PM's might be a better option, since it would likely lead to flaming for people's "honest opinion." An announcement like this is a good idea to get the information you want, but having people respond in PM's is best way to keep this civil.

I'm glad to see that people are interested in joining our server, and I hope that you can find the information you're looking for.

You make a very good point, if there is any info that might be regaurded by ANYONE as a flame, please send it to me in a PM.

as Bajaratt said, most of the people posting on these boards are in different shells. The ones that aren't, are either not interrested in the end-game content you're looking for, or too low level to attend, or otherwise not involved in end-game. And I know from personal experience that things can get rather, ahem, heated when it comes to end-game discussion, as everyone will preach about their shell being the best.

A good place to start is oing to this thread: http://www.qcdn.org/ffxi/showthread.php?t=16936

I will warn you, however, that some of the leaders don't frequent the board often, so getting a response might take some time.

That's a fair statement, I'd agree those are the most well accomplished on our server.

Since we are listing JP run shells as well, might as well list Windmill and QuestFantasy.

Edit: Tell us a little about yourself, is english the only language you speak, if not, are you actually fluent in the other language(s). Which job(s) are you, and what kind of merits do you have. Just some small info, etc. Also, a few SS of your gear would be nice as well ^^;

Those two are basically the same shell though. QF isn't really active in HNM anymore, and those QF members that are, are generally in Windmill. Windmill basically doesn't do 3 kings either, which strikes them off the list of "big, multi-purpose linkshells"

If we're getting into shells that are comprised of a lot of JP players that do/did endgame but aren't as (relatively) active in endgame, there are a whole lot of those: EU, PPhammer, NecoPunch/Revivalheart, Platinum Maiden, Round Table Conf, Rams and Wolf, etc etc.

QF still does sea, the only place that they haven't completely dominated yet. Windmill does the Wyrms and land NMs like Cerb, Khimera, etc.

PP hammer has a few members active in the Kiings, but they hunt with us <JeanneDaArc> so wouldn't really consider their shell active in endgame.

Those were just the linkshells that I know of that I've actually seen doing stuff recently. I'd throw element in there too, but I haven't seen them in a while so I don't know what they're doing. If I missed a linkshell, and apparently I did, it's because I haven't personally seen them around; no offense to members of those linkshells intended.

I've never even heard of windmill before, QF I just haven't heard anything about in months so I thought they broke up or something.

Element did break. Windmill has been active at Cerb for the past few weeks, and doing vrtra a few times. QF has been strictly sea for a while.

General rule of thumb:
If it's a shell worth getting into, chances are you can't get into it.

And yeah, element broke. Guess I need a new sig, but /lazy.

Just to go a little more on this. Yes, most of the top LSs on this server are very selective when it comes to recruiting. If you are looking to be involved in end game on Quetzy, I would recommend trying to throw out a few applications on linkshell sites and see what they say :) Would hate to see someone move and not be able to accomplish their set goal.

This topic does bring up an interesting issue, that being switching servers and accepting new players. If and when SE does allow server migration, end game shells are going to be recieving a lot of applications from players with no knowledge or very little about these players. Unlike QCDN, where we play together every day, these players have no direct contact with us and us with them. They can apply to shells seeking new opportunities, but at the same time, they can't bring any positive recommendations from credible players and conversly, they can leave any negative feedback they once had on their own server. It makes me wonder, as difficult and competitive as end game can be sometimes, switching servers might not necessarily be the answer. If you have a bad reputation on your own server, it probably can't get any worse by switching, but if you have a decent reputation, it can get worse by changing servers and applying to groups that knows nothing about you. My point is this, if server migration happens, then the most likely type of player to migrate with the least to lose is a disreputable player, the type shells are least likely to accept. End game shells will realize this and be less likely to accept players under the assumption that you are one even if you are not.

Note: This is not a flame, but merely an observation. It's not directed at anyone in particular.

There are a few ways to find out what a player has accomplished.
Gear and titles being the obvious ones.

And, if a person has multiple jobs and most end-game gear, a trial period would show if he has what it takes ^^

But finding out a players rep would be the hard part. No one would know if you were a nin lotter or something if you jumped servers.

Depends on the shell they come from really. High Profile shells and players who belonged to them are pretty easy to track down. If its a smaller shell they come from I agree background checks are difficult, but in this case it would be fairly easy to find out about the person ^^

Here is where I am coming from: What if the person is a cheater coming from a group of cheaters? I mean, I don't personally know people from Odin server or Bismark or any of the other servers, only people from QCDN so I cannot find personal information from about other players or verify that information. There is always the issue of getting reliable information. Let's say person X applies to LS A. The person uses LS B as a personal reference and all the members are from another server so we cannot get direct verification, but person X has some members come and vouch for them. But the issue that arises is if Person Y and Z who vouched for him are reliable sources? Well, if Person X, Y and Z all came from Shell B, a group of cheaters, we have a group of cheaters vouching for a group of cheaters. Not exactly a winning combo. Gear is not a great way to test the quality of a player. Gear can be bought via RMT and can be taken via cheats as well.

Nasya, has a good point about high profile members; however, not all good shells and their members want to keep a high profile. There are quite a few shells which are or were very good that purposely kept a low profile and on the opposite spectrum, I am sure there are a few cheaters out there who purposely kept the lowest profile they could as well.
