English class?

This post is amazing. I got to see everyone's point of view. I really didn't think I would get this many post. Makes me feel all warm inside.

oops double post ftl...:(

In other word you either with me or I'm going be defensive. That always been your stance and you always been simple minded in your post.

Secondly every post I made I have gave reason and logic behind it, however most the fights I choose to fight are chosen because I know people are going to disagree due to some people one tracked minds (quite few you on this board). You see everything as black and white, but there are many shade of gray. Other I choose because one person get flame to hell about something, but the one doing the flaming is no better then there person doing the flaming. You pick them out because they have done something you yourself have most likely done at one time or another. For some reason you finding that flaming that person will bring justice and peace to the world.

This is a game forum about a online rpg game not some collage thesis paper. I'm sorry I have better thing to do then to proof read and correct every mistake I make in a post. You don't like go ahead flame me as I've already stated I don't give a dam. Here I'll put it in the 2nd grade language you all love to use, "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me"
Been over this already, the time/effort/post space I spend commenting about your horrible spelling and grammar is about 0.0001% the time/effort/post space I spend destroying your "arguments" and ripping your "defense" apart. And yes, those are in quotes because I'm being incredibly generous in even giving your posts credit for being actual points. All you've focused on is maybe one sentence in 10 posts that even mentions your spelling/grammar outside of this thread. You don't feel like spending 10 seconds to make sure your post is coherent and it's obvious you don't even look to make sure your ideas are intelligent either. I'd also love to see this supportive reasoning that you claim you always use, because I have yet to see any at all.

Oh and also Albert Einstein was born in 1879 died 1955 hardly 300 years ago,and while yes, the expectation of education was different back then today; to say that he would not be considered what he was then, now is nothing short of ignorance. His mind is still far pass the times now as it was then. What you fail to make out from this example was the point that one's intellect is not linked to ones ability to use perfect grammar.
I said 300 to deal with Newton or Mozart, not Einstein you idiot. Your Einstein argument fails, because he didn't have a problem communicating his theory, just with basic math; and basic math is completely irrelevant to this topic. Was he smart, yes; but he could also clearly say what he was doing. You're still only looking to a single aptitude as the only sign of intelligence. Yeah, Einstein was brilliant when it came to physics, go photoelectric effect, but he sucked at other pursuits; communication, however, was not one of them.

maybe if you spent as much time thinking of the post then bashing it or trying to isolate a weak point you would see that.
Yes, obviously analyzing your posts for weak points in your logic isn't thinking about the post at all.

So to sum up, you're an idiot. Your ideas are very poorly thought out, if you even put any in at all and you can't defend them at all. Your spelling has nothing to do with the reason why I respond, it's the actual content, not the format that I respond to; and that content is exactly why people call you an idiot.

Quit blaming anyone other than yourself because you slept through grade school.
If you present yourself in a manner that makes you look like an illiterate moron who doesn't even try to speak the language, many people will treat you like one.

It's an automatic fail in my book, as nearly 100% of people who fail to attempt to communicate will also fail to attempt to actually play FFXI properly as well.

Some people find it easier/faster to type that way. Some people are new to the language. Hell, some people are just bad at spelling. He wasn't "blaming" anyone. I've ran into tonnes of people like you, who think they're better than everyone else because people on a fucking GAME forum don't live up to your typing standards.

My opinion on writing is quite simple: you don't take the time to write correctly, I'm not going to take the time to read it. Small typos happen here and there, but repeatedly and in mass quantity just makes the writer come off like an idiot and therefore not worth my time.

This might just be a forum board for a game, but if you want others to take the time to read your stuff, you better take the time to write it.

This, of course, only applies to people who learned English as a first language. It would be completely unfair to hold this standard to people who didn't have it beaten into their heads in every level of school.

Yes and we find it easier and faster to just ignore this persons post. If they're not even taking the small amount of effort it takes to make their posts legible then their opinions are probably not worth reading.

Second language is different, but to be honest i find that usually the people who learnt English as a second language have better grasp of it than a lot of the people with it as their primary.

And thats Mr. Elitist Fuckwad to you.

I totally disagree. Just because there are a few uncapitalized letters, and a few grammar fuck-ups, doesn't mean that a person's post is not even worth reading.

I'm less concerned with what you have to say, because you're basically regurgitating exactly what the person I was quoting said. Thanks for the reply though, Mr. Elitist Fuckwad.

There is a very large difference between a few uncapitalised letters and the odd comma missing and illegibilty. The common trend in the entire thread has been that as long as your post is legible then it isn't a problem. It is when we start getting to the people like blazn when this problem kicks in. Have you ever seen blazn post? Do a search because i can honestly say my 8 year old sister has better typing, grammar and spelling than he does.

Garvin had a good point, next time you are in a party with someone who sucks (and refuses any good advise) look at how he types, because 90% of people I've partied with who have sucked that badly typed like utter retards.

If the person cannot take a couple of extra minutes to make his post readable and save everyone reading it from having to decipher it then they probably don't have anything important to say or at least don't care enough to make it easily heard.

So now my question to you; why don't you post like a complete asshat if you deem it acceptable?

The only person nitpicking tiny mistakes such as capitalisation here has been by kotsu and that was in jest.

because people on a fucking GAME forum don't live up to your typing standards.

Did you skip over the part where it was applied to real life situations too? Or how about the example where a simple lack/change in punctuation changed the target/tone/message of what was said?

There is a certain level of stupidity that you are allowed to have while posting and there are people whos first language is english that can't come anywhere near this level.

Not having english as a first language will only get you so much sympathy here. Look at someone like Uzor. He's one of the bigger arguers here and he usually gets his point across pretty well, imo. He only has problems, that i have noticed, with silly little english catch phrases/nursery rhymes/whatever its called.

So here we have another person who hasn't actually read what I've said. I'm not sure why I find myself repeating this over and over again, but here goes.
I have never said that a few errors make a post worthless.
I have never said that a few errors make a post worthless.
I have never said that a few errors make a post worthless.
I have never said that a few errors make a post worthless.

There's a difference between typing normally, an abbreviation here and there, some spelling mistakes, some grammar errors... and typing like a complete fucking moron.

Seriously, I'm getting kinda sick of repeating myself just because people don't read what I've said a half a dozen times.

lol i wish my English was as good as Uzors >.>

Garvin already responded, but it's blatantly obvious you didn't read a damn thing in this thread. People are only complaining about massive problems, not the occasional mistake, because everyone makes mistakes. If someone is not going to take the time to make their post legible(meaning it's very hard to read, not tiny shit like lack of capitalization or a typo) then why should they be given the same respect as someone who took the extra 5 seconds to make their point clear? If you write like an idiot on purpose, then you should stop bitching about being treated as one; if you're at least making the attempt, people leave you alone.

People only complain about a few select individuals who have repeated, habitually incomprehensible posts. Stop acting like people say everyone should have perfect spelling/grammar at all times, it makes you look like an idiot.

Bajaratt wins so much.

im soo gonna get pwned for this but wtf im bored...

NOT ENOUGH CONJUNCTIONS IN THIS FUCKING THREAD!

I bet everybody double checked their spelling before posing in this thread.

Wan't

let's not forget words that sound/are spelled the same that are a pain to someone who wasn't cursed with English as a first language either. (stationery = paper / stationary = not moving, standing still - what the crap, just one letter changes it, but they're pronounced the same?)

The English language isn't the only language that has words like that. For example, "vert" and "verre", both pronounced the same in French, mean green and glass (to drink out of) respectively.

A better example would be the differences between Read, Read, and Red.

The verb, To read.

The past tense, read.

The color Red.

The second and the third are pronounced the same yet completly different in meaning.

The first and middle are spelled the same, but pronounced totally different.

The only thing i have more trouble with than english is trying to learn the counting system in Japan.

Then there is Chinese (probably mandarin, its talking about main land china)... one study suggests that nearly 10% of their words are homonyms. English is quoted as having about 3%. To follow up on BF's example, French has a large abundance too, another example from it would be: cent (100), sans (without), sang (Blood), and sens (the verb feel in the first person).

Makelith: Unless you are taking Japanese in school, and will be tested on it... I wouldn't worry too much about the counting systems. When it comes to ~ほん ~まい ~こ ~ひき ~だい etc... Many Japanese people themselves confuse the counting systems, and default to ~つ. Unless its people (ひとり、ふたり etc), days of the month (ついたち、みっか etc) , months of the year (いちがつ、etc), or floors of a building (いちかい、さんがい etc), I really haven't heard the other counters much at all while being here.

Well thats good to know. I am taking a trip to Japan soon to meet the son of the founder of the martial art i am taking. I have just heard horror stories from my current sensai about him ordering foor in Japan and the people looking at him wierdly because he messed up his counting objects.
