Ok, so i know this has been discussed a billion times before. Its a dead horse, Noobs suck, everybody knows. But heres my question:

WHO THE FUCK KEEPS GIVING THEM MONEY?

Seriously, why do you think noobs always ask for gil? The answer is that some asshat feels sorry for them and actually gives them some. DON"T FEED THE BEARS! It just makes them think the rest of us are being assholes by keeping our gil to ourselves. I swear, theres some asshole who just goes around pling and handing out gil to anybody with less than 8 hours of playtime, and then tells them that the rest of us like to do it too.

I try not to blame the noobs, but at the same time, calling me names, after i just helped you by answering your questions, is alittle much.

I'm guilty here. I can't help but give to beggars. I've given 2,000 gil on occasion. Once, a warrior was looking to buy new gear, and I gave gil and suggested s/he use it to buy a great axe instead of the sword that SE mistakenly started warriors with. I feed the noobs, so to speak, but I do it with the intention of buying them good skill and a headstart towards non-noobiness.

I would occasionally, when I was in a good mood, find some person with a ? mark above their head who was minding their own business and slap from 2-5k on them. It might start bad traits, but man I got like 5k in items from some random person one time and damn did it feel good. Course then you find out 5k really cant do anything but hey, at level 3 its the world.

5K is good seed money. Thats about how much I transferred to Selph from the first Tyrion before I had to delete hime (In Gil and items) and she's never really been broke since.

Do not feed the noobs!! I'm sorry but anytime I was asked for gil I would just laugh at them and tell them to go farm like everyone else. People have called me rude,noob,mean,etc... for not giving them something for free. Unless it a friend of mine or i know them, I will not give them items/gil, just info on how to farm.

Ever been to Mexico? Not the nice parts or resorts but the real Mexico? The places were people really do live in shacks? If you give a street begger any money next thing you know you will have 10..15...20+ people all begging you for money.

One good thing about being stationed in Korea, I rarely see new players during the week, and on weekends I'm leveling high(er) level jobs so I'm with more experienced players 99% of the time. I have had someone ask me what job I was.....while I was summoning avatars like no tomorrow to raise summoning skill lol. >_<

Yes, zimzum is correct in his analogy, I've been to mexico and i've been chased by mexicans because i gave 10 dollors to some old beggar lady.

If you give money to newbs you'll have tons more newbs asking you for money.

IT'S NOT HARD MAKING MONEY AT ALL IN THIS GAME.
( Well if you want bad ass items like NM drops, but newbs dont need them. haha )

I've never, ever given a player gil. I've been asked plenty of times, and every time I'm asked I give the same response:

"Sorry, I don't hand out free gil to strangers, but I'd be more than happy to give you advice on how to make your own gil"

90% of the time I get no response to this, or a "no thx". The 10% who do actually seek advice get plenty- how to use Signet, how to check prices and sell at AH, how to look for vendors for good deals, and low-level mobs to farm in the area (this one changes depending on where they're based).

If they're still begging after they ask me for gil, it's only because they're a lazy sonofabitch and don't deserve a single gil sent their way.

really? im mexican and ive been to the "real Mexico" ive given poor ppl money before. And not once ived had 10..15..20+ people begging for money. I dont know where you went, but most ppl where im from dont live in shacks.

now, i completely agree, we shouldnt ever give money to beggars. However, i do propose something else, and i'll start off this proposal with a story.

The other day i was lvling my freshly created Taru Blm (named Toneboone for anyone who cares) and i happened to run into another player. She cured me at random and we started talking. After a while, (and she was in fact a new player) she offered to cure me while i fought for a while, basically a PL. I said if she wanted to she could, but she did not have to, as I NEVER ask for a PL. anyhow, we start walking around for a while and she was very pleasant, any time she had a question it was asked politely, she never begged, she never gave any bit of attitude. I was about to log as i was getting tired, and before i left i gave her a gift. I dropped her a good 5k or so, and told her that the reason she is recieving this money is because she did not in fact beg for money, and that she was respectful towards me whether or not she knew me, and that we need more new players like her.

Now, the proposal is we give out money to those who actually are respectful and whatnot, and this should start a trend where noobs *might* actually be nice and not beg, and learn their jobs. However...there are always idiots, but i'm sure this will help with the problem a bit.

I treat people that ask for money the same way I treat homeless people in our area. I will buy them something to eat, but I will not give them money. I will give a new person items they can sell, but I will not give them the actually gil its self. If they take my hand out, then they truly are in need. If they don’t, I guess they really didn’t need it that bad. You would be shocked how many homeless people will refuse food and demand cash.

I have given Gil to New Adventures, but none of them asked for it. They asked me a normally question, such as where to find a NPC, or how do I use the Auction House and I felt like giving them something to help them get started.

On the same token, we should stop and take time to help people that truly need help. I felt really bad the other day for a new adventure; all he wanted to know was which NPC to give his flint stones to in Bastok. No body would help him, people where calling him a N00B in shout. It took me all of 5 minutes to take him to the NPC and explain she only accepts the stones during a certain time. He was polite, he said please and thank you. There is no reason why we should not help people who are trying to help them selves.

Handouts are handouts. This is not a bad thing.
Noobs need to realize it's just someone that felt sorry for their pathetic ass and gave them a leg up. And that's it. Where they get the idea that it's cool to go around begging for gil, and calling names when they don't get it, I have NO clue...But it's not related.

You know, it's kind of like homeless people...
IF I am ever in the modd to give them anything, it's sure as shit not money. I offer to buy them some food from the value menu or something. That way I at least know where th emoney is going.
It's a bit different in FFXI, because I can buy and item from the AH and give it to a newb and he can then sell it, but I'd rather do that instead of just throwing gil at them.

I try to take an interest in wha job they are and what they might need and how I can help them with any information. SO...When I suddenly hold the line and it may seem like I am being a "wamker", they can't say I didn't try and help and they can't say I haven't been honest and up front with them. When I tell them to piss off, it's final. If they so much as speak another word, it's /blist time noob!

Damned no edit feature and no spell check.
/blush for my poor grammar above.
Must be the funky burrito ultimo playing games with me.
