Wow, I just heard that on the radio. Looks like Dimebag Darrell and Vinne Paul (both formely from Pantera), from the band Damage Plan, were shot on stage last night by a fan that got on stage. Then 2 people from the crowd were shot and 2 more severly injured.

This is really troubling me actually, not only because I used to be a big fan of Pantera, but I do go see a lot of shows, in bars and arenas. Two things: Is it not safe anymore to go assist shows? And with that incident, will security now be so thight that you will have to show up at 8:00 AM if you wanna make it in before the show starts at 10:00 PM?

What do you guys think of all this and does anyone has more precise information?

/sigh I am so sick of shit like this happening...then fans wonder why their favorite artists don't tour as much as they used to...people are freaking sick. ><

Here is one of my fav NERF HERDER songs for all you PANTERA fans (if you have never heard of Nerf Herder they are a kickass little punk band...and you should go out and buy all of their cd's - the 1st (self titled) one is the best...but all are high quality ;))

Artist : Nerf Herder
Song : Pantera Fans In Love

I bleached my hair just like Vince Neil
Then you made me cut it like James Hetfield
We're gonna put an end to alternative rock
We'll find a way to make the Cranberries stop
We went to Sears for pictures at Christmas time
But they wouldnt let us make the metal sign
No they wouldnt let us make the metal sign.

Chorus:
I'll bring the wine you bring the bread and cheese
It's hard to eat when your headbanging
Making out in the middle of the pit
How come Slayer doesnt sing about this
If anything comes between you and me
The heavymetal heaven that's where we'll be
We are Pantera fans in love

What's with these punk rock nerds
They cant even sing i wish we never heard of the Offspring
A candle lite dinner, Now were holding hands
I taught you how to draw your first pentagram
We went miniture golfing but we didnt get far
Because we used the clubs to play air guitar
Oh we used the clubs to play air guitar

(Chorus)

We are we are Pantera fans in love

We saw Ozzy on our first date
Our special song is Crazy Train
Making out in the middle of the pit
How come Slayer doesnt sing about this
If anything comes between you and me
The heavymetal heaven that's where we'll be
We are Metallica fans
We are Megadeath fans
We are Manowar fans in love
We are Pantera fans in love

I heard about it on the Radio this morning. The guy targeted certain people, so there was a motive to his shooting, but since he was shot dead, I doubt we will know why.

Yeah, from what I heard and read, the psycho went right for Dimebag Darrell and shot at hom 4-5 times. And yeah, we will probably never know why he did this, altought we all probably have our own idea. Maybe he thought Darell was responsible for Pantera splitting up, i don't know.

Now watch all the report about how Heavy Metal music is responsible for that behavior, media are gonna jump on this like Batokan on Leaping Lizzy. :(

I used to listen to all kind of metal like Slayer, Death, Nailbomb, Sepultura, Pantera, etc. I still listen to it actually, with new groups like Rammstein, Slipknot, Static-X, etc. Did I tune out a bum and a psycho? No. I finished school and now have my own company.

Just like with TV and video games, violence in metal music can spark a violent behavior, but I think there was already something, like a seed, in a person that made him act violently. If metal music had not started it, something else would have, maybe as simple as being stuck in traffic.

I heard this on the way to work. What a load.
That S.o.B. should be stomed by the pit...Did they catch the bastard?

I can't fucking believe Dime is DEAD.
The guy was an inspiration to many musicians, even outside the metal genre.

OMFG I am actually distraught about this.

I have pictures of myself and 5 of my high school buddies with Dimebag drinking Coors Light.
That was the wildest backstage party I have ever been to in my short lived life.

This is just so fucking depressing I can't think straight.

Burn in hell Gunman! Burn in fucking Hell! Dimebag will see you there asshole.

Fuck me this sucks,

Mo..

Definitely man. Dime was in the top 3 influences for me as a guitarist. I know his playing influenced many outside the metal world as well.
I heard this shit and was in disbelief.

Coors light and Jae...No more?

As for the subject of going to see shows, at least here in Canada I don't see it being much worse that it already is.

Hell, I went to see Tool a couple years back and I had to do everything short of giving out a DNA sample to get in the door.

Even going to little industrial club shows, I've seen them take spiked wrist bands away from the gothlings because they could be used as a weapon.
A gun slipping into a night club is the failing of security, not the concert going public, and I think that measures should be taken so that concert going is a safe experience.

Hell, we had to argue one time that Sabia's purse wasn't a tool of massive devastation.

A few months ago when I went to see KMFDM at a little club show here in Calgary, there was three security stops before we went into the door, one to check the ticket and legal age, a second to make sure that your jacket didn't contain a violent payload of explosives and the third was a pat down. Hell, I was given trouble for my steeltoes at an industrial show of all places.

But even though I had to wait in line an extra hour it's the trade off you pay for knowing that there's not some asshole in the crowd out to pull off shit like what happened to Dimebag

just my two cents.

Whoa, every show I've been too/played at has had nothing like that. When I went to go see 36 Crazyfists and Candiria, no one even checked to see if you had a wristlet on after half the bands had played. When I went to see Cephalic Carnage and Burnt by the Sun, which was by far the craziest show I've been to, there were punks with chains and spikes and steel toes and all sorts of shit. I got my glasses broken in the pit and I wasn't even moshing. I guess we just don't care that much for personal safety down here in Texas land.

Yeah, granted the club KMFDM played at also has a history for a disgruntled patron shooting a bar tender in the shoulder but still . . .

KMFDM is just a washed up industrial act that should have traded in their big boots the first time they promised it . . . You'd think that people would be more worried about acts that are a bigger draw.

Hmm I think some cops dropped by one of the shows my band and I played at because a metal head got in a fight with some slippy guys who only wanted free beer. I remember our drummers girlfriend striding towards the door, beer in hand, then turning and ramming right in to me when she saw a cop wander in. That's about as violent as it got, I think.
