Just annoyed at how prices going up all the time. But its the people who are purposefully doubling prices that piss me off the most. Looking at the high level craft items is something.

Hawkers Knives +1 sold quite consisently for 1.6-2mil for a long while, but since beginning march Mibo decided to buff up the price to 3.5 mil and then to 4 mil. So double the price since February? /lame

Sniper Rings +1 getting a bit out of hand. Was barely 2 months ago when i was getting ready to save up 4-5 mil to buy 2. And now they are 4 mil each? /lame

I'm not a leathercraft person, but I've also noticed Wyvern skins go up from 10k to now 70k since a couple of months ago. Making 90+ leathercraft 600% more expensive to level. /lame

Shihei used to always sell for 5-6k. Now I am personally selling them for 6k a stack fixed price since elm logs are buffed to 7.5k each. But people are consistently selling them for 7-9k+ a stack. /lame

Now I know people probably think, old news, too many gil buyers around etc, but when crafters do nothing to help the community and buff the price at rate higher than the inflation rate, it just make things nuts. Keeps rich people rich, poor people poor and people in between just pissed.

I'm sure people also very pissed, so I feel free to curse SE's any inflation measure and celebrate their overwhelming success. /sarcasm

/rant over

SE should just make required *consumables* available at shops so it will not be possible to over inflate prices. ONce you go above the "store" price you simply stop buyin from the AH. This would help for things like "shihei" and such.

Hawker's+1 have been 4mill for a long time now, only a couple months ago did the price dip to 2mill, and is now recovering back to it's original price.

Each NQ hawker synth is a loss to person synthing it, I think the odds of getting an HQ hawkers are 3/10 (Silfer or Veresko correct me if I'm wrong).

When you count the loss from each synth, and the small profit you get from selling an HQ (I'm stuck in sky atm and can't look up the exact current numbers), the price seems to be pretty fair if you ask me.

If high lvl crafters can't make money off their HQs, why try to lvl it up in the first place?

Besides, Hawker's+1 aren't a necesity anyway, if you can't afford it, don't rant about the price because it's how the crafters make their money.

This recent rise in price is because of some NA who suddenly got his/her hands on a massive amount of gil had to pl his/her leathercrafting through these lvls.

I am not pointing any fingers, and I am pretty sure I am not the only one who knowss who it was...

Don't blame the people selling the skins, but the ones who will pay any price to pl their craft to through those lvls w/o any thoughts on how he/she will affect everyone else.

Not really blaming anyone. Just flaming because I want all the best gear but can't afford it. :D /flame /flame /flame

It's not difficult to play on that kind of foolishness. Case in fact, some dork is willing to go buy 20million gil, lets assume in this case. They dont' know the first thing about conserving gil because they think what they have is infinite, and they know even less about making it themselves. It's the same premise as someone who buys a lvl 75 char without ever playing FFXI. They don't know what they're doing.

So as a result lets say a high level crafter knew this and wanted to protect their status in the high end of their craft. Knowing this person in question would pay any price just to get what they want and will buy as much gil as needed to get there, no matter what the consequence (losing tons of gil when they didn't need to). Who is winning in the end? Not the gil buyer. Let's say this person wants to PL their craft to 100 in leather, as everyone knows, the only real way to do it efficiently and for least cost is the masks that use wyvern skins. They used to be 10k, and as I said once before it took close to 700 synths and a loss of 22.6mil gil to get there. That is not easy money to come by in a short time without good connections or a good sense of profitability in something. So along comes mister gil buyer, set on getting from 90-100 with that 22.6mil gil... well what if one was to buy a load of wyvern skins, stockpile them, and sell them for increasing prices? The gil buyer doesnt care, he/she thinks what they have is infinite.

So they buy the next batch for 15k each... then 20k, then 25k, then 30k... people know they will keep buying it, and so does this high level crafter manipulating the price for a reason. As a result, the farmers have something to make mass profit off this idiot who is blowing a LOT of real life money to powerlevel a craft, only to end up losing it all in big chunks. The price will keep inflating, and this crafter is in fact reselling these skins for even more, making more and more money off the gil buyer who is still making little to no progress worth the money they're spending. At the price of skins now it will cost the average leathercraft hopeful about 150-160mil where it used to cost 22.6 in this case.

The ones at the top are now secure, since leather now would cost an outrageous price to PL, and the gil buyer frantically trying to catch up is only getting set back furthur and furthur while those who know what's going on are laughing at them.

Anyway, on the case of HQs being inflated, in the case of snipers once again, it's due to the fact that the NQ are becoming more and more of a loss per synth. It wouldn't be worth it to risk that much money for an HQ if the profit is no more than dirt. Rare HQs would not be made unless there was a significant profit to be had in them. Hence why if the price does not rise, then the product simply wont be made. Ever wonder why behemoth mantles+1 just CEASED being popped out one day? 1mil loss for an NQ and only 500k profit for an HQ is probably a good reason.

You got that right....

Yeah i noticed that with behemoth mantle, thats why i didn't question the 3mil to 5-8 mil leap in cost. Well the point i was underlining trying to make was that the measures that SE are putting in to combat gil buyers, inflators and the other annoying people ain't working. Every new patch/update only sees prices go even higher. Gathered some people just desperate to get new items so pay stupid amount for them, but when they don't go down in the price, then theres the problem. I should of sat down and thought about it before i did woodworking thats for sure lol. I've been working on woodworking going on 7-8 months now. Never even sat down to think about what I would do if the elemental staffs didn't work out lol. I'm happy i got my woodworking leveled though. Only got 2 levels left, will take a long while but come dynamis time i'll probably just try and get the last 2 levels from synthing lancewood logs for people. Till then reinvesting same 400k to get all remaining crafts to 60. Just find it funny that i can go mining and within 4-5 hours I've already synthed myself a stack of darksteel ingot (240k) like 5 stacks of iron ingot (30k), free skill up on smithing, nice profit and no effort. I'm sure things will eventually be sorted out, but it will be a shame if it did after everyone decent in the game just picks up their stuff and clears off. Started the game more than a year ago, and adaman ores were still 100k then, so gil making obviously wasn't hard initially for the JP when they started, if they can afford to buy that much back when everything was about 3-10 times cheaper than now. The winners are probably the farmers at the end of the day. Those people that only farm items, or grow items in their mog house. I was thinking of growing my own elemental ores for elemental staffs but i'd make more secure gil if i just went ahead and sold them all rather than use them. Take any gambles in the game and simply you are gonna lose, no if or but about it. Always gotta quit when you are head which can be difficult when you first start HQing the good items. :D

Shihei still selling well for 6.5k per stack and 60k for 10 stacks, getting orders of 10-40 stacks a day. So I make gil, people get shihei cheaper asking me, and crafters still get their AH price from suckers off AH, so everyone wins, but the people that just buy at whatever price the AH has to offer. Just wish, as everyone probably does, that I knew then what I know now. Would of made like 200 billion by now. :P

Inflation = cheap money(increased money supply)

That is Remedial Economics 085. As the game advanced and the total available supply of gil on the server increases, prices will continue to increase at a rate directly proportional to the rate of increase in the total gil supply. If the gil to buy items at increased prices didn't exist, then the items wouldn't sell and the AH prices wold drop by necessity. Crafters and farmers alike are forced to sell items at an increased price in order to meet their own goals. The same economic forces drive up prices IRL, and this is why you can't buy a new home for $1200 dollars anymore, as in the 1940's.

New gil enters the game in several forms:

Drops from mobs
Completed Quests and Missions
Selling to NPC's

Gil leaves the game by only one method:

Buying from NPC's
AH fees

AH trades are technically inflation neutral, because they are player to player trades with no change in the money supply.

How much do you buy from NPC's? Not much I'll wager. The game designers greatly limited what you can buy from an NPC vendor because they intended to give crafters a "captive audience" of buyers. Plus, most items are grossly over priced at the NPC vendors.

Untill recently, AH fees were negligable. Even now they are still minimal in the starter cities.

Check with the older FF servers and you will find a similar inflation trend well advanced beyond ours. Gil sellers and buyers only accellerate the process.

The real root of the problem: the game designers were excellent programmers, but lousy economists.

In short, I agree that having more items for sale at NPC vendors would not only cap the prices, but be anti-inflationary. The crafters would suffer for a short time, but prices would stabilize eventually.

Heh, I edited this before posting and still missed this mistake.

I also forgot my favorite economic saying:

If everyone had a million dollars, one million dollars would be worthless.

Thank you Osse for saying that. I've said it once and I'll say it again gil is not minted like in a nation there is no cut off so it is only limited by time. The longer people play the more of it comes about. Gilsellers are always playing and always using strategies to maximize the amount of gil they get so they are just a catalyst.

Of course once you take into account that once people pay real money for something in game they are more likely to play for a much longer time than they would if they did not. ONce you realize this like SE has, you'll find that SE will never do such a thing, even though it would help everybody. Because if they did, then its just one less reason for people who do this to "not" stay, and thereby SE losing the monthly fee.
