So according to the article, this doesn't happen under normal circumstances, right?

As Disc 2 of CoP sits in pieces in a CD rom that I can't get open.

How the hell do I get the pieces of disc out?

The comp still works fine and doesn't realize that there is a problem with the CD rom.

It sounded like a gun shot when it blew up... I hope the drive still works.

Ahh that's comedy right there. Makes me think of the time we got bored in Iraq and started putting CDs and DVDs in the microwave. They get all sparkly and look really nice as they are getting zapped. Sucks that yours blew up in your drive. Hope it didn't sctatch the lens. That would suck.

My roomate got a new comp not too long ago, his old one was bought about the same time mine was, they are the same brand, and his CD rom was working fine, it was his motherboard that went out.

If all else fails, i'll get Kyp to switch the 2 drives. He's supposed to come over and give me a hand tommorow.

At least I got CoP installed before it turned into shrapnal.

This exact same thing happened to me a few months ago (Was also my CoP disk in there.. which is wierd o.O). Had to buy a new CD-ROM drive ><

Well, all I can tell you is that when I took the drive to Best Buy, they basically said there was no way to take the pieces out, and I had to buy a new one.

Sorry about your CD drive trippy :(

But I saw that episode of mythbusters and I gotta say it was very entertaining :)

Sorry to hear. =/
"Congradulations, you can now play ToAU. This install CD will self-destruct in 3 seconds."

Wow interesting, I've never heard of a CD exploding in a CD drive before. Sorry to hear about that.

Only thing I can think of is if there was a vast temperature difference (really cold when you put the CD in a computer that'd been running a long time?)

Otherwise I dunno why it'd do that...maybe the magnets in the drive attacthed to the CD imroperly or something?

Reminds me of when a light bulb exploded in a reading lamp I had out of nowhere. Was playing a game and suddenly I saw a flash and heard a loud explosion. I looked over to see smoke and glass all over the place. I believe it was a wattage issue. I was also told that it was because there was a crack in it before it blew. Dunno the real reason but it was stange.

Could be that the CoP CDs had a bad batch made with imperfect / thin / slightly weak plastic that have a lower RPM threshold before they just can't take the stress anymore...

Had it happen, it is a BITCH and a half to remove all the pieces, I would recomend taking apart the CD drive and just picken em out.
