After the update I am now getting the error Final Fantasy XI failed to initalize Direct3D..... I have no idea what i need to update and or repair to fix this. Any help would be great thanks.

I called SE yesterday and their IT department helped me. Turns out they only claim to support up to the Nvidia 7 series graphics card. I have 8. They had me turn my overlay resolution up to my full monitor size and that actually fixed the problem. No idea why that was an issue to begin with, but glad it's fixed.

Thanks for trying to help. :)

Bumping this topic to see if anyone has any advice for my friend that is also having a problem. They downloaded the new version of DirectX from the link provided, and are still unable to login to FFXI both using the FFXI POL Viewer and Windower 3.4.

I personally can't login using POL viewer myself anymore because I get the same error (and have re-installed DirectX) but for some reason logging in with Windower 3.4 works fine.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Had to reformat my comp right after I had this problem the first time. That fixed the problem until another update, then it came back reinstalled directx and drivers are up to date... Can us windower though.

I have to do this for my laptop, was gonna be my suggestion to just use windower lol

I had this problem about a year ago. Tried to update my driver, but that didn't do anything. So instead I found a 3rd-party driver and it's worked fine ever since. xD

Here's the site if you have any interest in trying.

I had the same problem with my old PC, turns out, FFXI couldn't run with the newest video card drivers....so I ended up having to roll it back to a driver that was over 2 years old.
