Fair play

I feel that if you couldn't do it from running the program itself with no add ons, it's cheating. And I cheated he hell out of this game so I don't give two shits about it. I will tell you this though, if I see somone using a hack the way I know it works, I'll report you faster than a dog could lick it's ass. To me the best thing though is when you are standing by someone in yor party that says brb, then they target you and you get to watch their head go back and forth as you run in front of them. Someday when I feel like being a total dick I'm going to start reporting people for that too.

I know alot of people do not aggree with me, its not against the rules, and has been done in pretty much every MMO... but I am against power leveling.
I believe it adds a "safety net" that shouldnt be there, especially jobs that require a good amount of skill to play well. It also creates alot of mid lvl "noobs".

In my opinion everyone cheats at this game, myself included.

There are different levels of cheating though. Like when you go on trial for murder, it's not just murder. it's a specific kind that defines your intentions more clearly.

All of the following, in my opinion is cheating, but in the order of minor to serious offenses.

Using The Brady Guide. (can disadvantaging yourself be considered cheating?)
Asking someone how to do a quest without figuring it out yourself.
Looking up info about the game on sites like Somepage, or qcdn.
Using a Parser.
Power leveling.
Using tools like TParty, Draw Distance and Blood Pact timer for windower.
Using extended Macro lines for windower.
Buying Gil
Warp Hax, speed hax
Claim Hax
Crazy shit like "I can't die" Hax.

You'll notice I left using windower off the list. I believe you can use windower and still give yourself no further advantage. I think SE is completely wrong about it and in my mind it does not qualify as cheating.

For the most part, everyone agree's war/flee/claim tools are cheating. That is not in question. Some people believe buying gil is not cheating just a time saver and the division officially begins here. There is still a solid majority that believes this is cheating.

Then we have the windower plug-ins. These help you perform better by granting information you shouldn't have. There are some people that are adamant that these are cheating, but they are generally accepted among the better part of the community.

Even the ones that reject windower would never have the slightest word against fan sites filled with volumes of info about every quest, npc or item you would ever encounter in FFXI. Noone considers this cheating because everyone does it, and it's not against EULA. It matters not, even though I use the sites myself, I still consider it cheating because it's info not readily available to all players. Like someone that plays on PS2 and has a broken computer. They are automaticlly at a disadvantage because they can't see this info and they have to either beg for help, or figure it out alone.

We all cheat. The question is how much.

I use fan sites and windower with no plug-ins and no extra macro lines. I have been known to power level from time to time.

That's all my skeletons.

I can dig this. It's something not many people expand on about windower. It's an enabler. I'd call the parser on those lines too most likely were i still playing and if i had ever used it, however my experience falls shy of using it and only reading reported numbers from it.

As the public school system would call it they're 'gateway cheats', IMO. Mostly harmless on their own but they allow for further abuse of the system depending on your opinions about what constitutes a cheat.

I couldn't agree more.

Burn down the dunes.

I think Windower and extra lined macros are okay as long as they don't allow you to do anything you wouldn't accomplish in game with multiple macros (for example if you can have conditionals and loops in your macros, I'd say that's cheating). The in game macros were designed to work 3 years ago, now with so many different equipment pieces, extra lines are quite useful. I switch out almost every piece other than weapons when I do a WS. Personally I didn't buy my PC for purely playing FFXI, and when I want to bazaar things while working or something of the sort, I think that's quite alright. I also think parser is okay because it doesn't allow anything you wouldn't be able to do by hand. It just speeds things up. I don't think it's cheating like hacking or botting, because no matter how hard you try without a hack or a bot, you will not be able to accomplish the same thing a hack or a bot do, but you can accomplish the same thing a parser does without an actual parser.
