Fallout 3

Was watching someone play this last night, and my impression was that it looks kinda fun, but nothing I'd be immediately frothing over.

If they're all lazy to some extent, why bother bringing it up? That's like saying they didn't do a good enough job because they wasted too much time sleeping. While it's technically true, it's pointless to mention.

cause sometimes it's the laziness that's unacceptable. For example, the PS3 version will freeze for a moment while you're notified about someone logging on or off.. no other PS3 game has had this problem, and it's not like it's uncommon for friends to log on and off periodically over a playing time, why didn't they test for this long before the game's release? I can only see this, something that shoulda been seen easily through a play through if they had tested the game on a PS3 with the conditions a normal person would have (as in hooked up online with friends on their friends list periodically coming on and off) and they should have seen this error long before release.

Now, they might have, which means, for some reason, they didn't care to fix it. Or, they didn't know about it which would lead me to believe they didn't properly test the PS3 version which, to me, seems like laziness more than anything else, prolly. It could just be pure incompetence but I don't necessarily believe it's that.

From what I understand it intentional, they thought people would want that or something. Now that people think it's a bug, they are looking to patch it. It's a pretty annoying feature to not have as optional.

I don't really know any bugs outside of that that's PS3 specific. If that's it, it's barely worth mentioning. I've been playing this game pretty heavily and the only other thing I can think of is that sometime the lockpick jingle sound keeps going forever after you are finished, and you need to save and then load to get rid of it. These are not something that really makes the game worse in my mind, they're pretty inconsequential bugs in the scheme of things.

The GTA4 freezes were a much, much bigger deal to me, requiring me to have Sony actually replace my PS3.

this game is going to be soooo long. ive yet to really even bother with finding a companion such as the dog. however, when i went to the washington monument area and then made my way back around to megaton, i realized with bad karma, there was an ex-raider there that would be a companion. since my karma is high, he wont come with. no big deal. ive made it through to where i am without one. its been tooth and nail there for a bit though. i was running really low on ammo and i had a few of my main weapons broken. so, it came to the point i had to pick my battles.

a piece of free advice to those that havent gotten to a certain point...while in the area of the capital building where the reflecting pool would be in todays terms, there is a door in one of the trenches toward the middle. ive cleared out all of the enemy out of there, but there is a big surprise inside that door! whatever you do, make sure your full on health and alot of ammo before going in. AND make sure you save before going in. there are at least 3 giants on the other side of the door. one of which is so close, you cant use missles or grenades on him. so, make sure your mini gun is ready! the one at the end of that hall i believe has a rocket launcher.

just a lil fair warning! i went in without full health and low ammo. since it auto saves, i had a hard time getting out and i definately couldnt fight my way through. im wanting to go back in now though, it will be ammo and weapons galore!

also, if no one has it, i have the strat guide, so if you want me to look something up, i will. i plan on playing my way through the first time without using it.

ive applied to do game testing for EA at one point down in florida. they dont test all of their games like that. should they? maybe. but it isnt really required for a game that isnt played online. should they for games like cod or madden. absolutely!

the test machines they use are typically base model with nothing but that unit hooked up to a small tv. no internet, no nothing. will they patch that at some point? probably. thats if they get enough feedback on it.

Yea I've been doing it solo all the way.

Spoiler:
That mission to get the dish from the museum to the monument was absolutely insane.. I was way too low level, low ammo, low health/health items... I was down to the wire, with those super mutants wearing me down. By the end all I had left was grenades and I'd just be running and chucking. Really great feeling when I finished up. It's a better feeling than getting through a normal shooter, since the RPG frame makes prolonged outings more difficult, and the preparation in your own hands.

The only thing is, trying to show this off to a friend is kind of impossible. Just trying to show it off as a shooter is no good. Trying to show off it's graphics isn't gonna impress anyone. It's not co-op so you can't suck em in like that.

another tidbit of advice...

the older fallout games, you never actually walked from place to place, you choose your destination and it does it for you with random encounters. i was a little disappointed this didnt have that...or so i thought. if you pull up the world map, you have the ability to do a quick trip from location to location instead of hoofing all of it. it only works if your in the wasteland and not in battle. it does help cut down location to location time.

This game kept me up till 3 am last night...taking the time shift into account <.< (I was only able to start playing at midnight lol)

So if I kill the overseer, I can't go back to vault 101? Man, I gotta resist the urge...

Spoiler:
I already killed butch ;|

Even if you leave him alive, you can't get back in. Vault 101 pretty much only serves as quick travel to get Dogmeat if you send him off, since thats his safe point.

You just signed his death certificate ;|

There's a quest where you go back inside. You get it when you recieve a radio transmission from Amata.

that sucks. butch is one of the available companions later on

Seems like one of the few games to come out this year thats worth the price tag in terms of hours u can log in of gameplay :o

Nah, I know that. But I already know who I wanna get as companions, and butch is not one of them D: Seems like a wimp

I bought this game, but I haven't been able to get into quite yet. While it may be fun, it's a duplicate of Oblivion, which i put like 100 hours in, so im kinda burnt out on it. If you don't have the Pipboy radio going, it even has the same music lol.

A lot of the sound effects are the same too.

Doesn't make it any less fun. Infact, the improvements to combat make it better.

Yea so it's the same engine as Oblivion.. just makes for another epic game. I love the Oblivion engine, the sound effects, the vast never ending terrains.. bitchen good times.

The only disappointment I've run into is my game freezing, which it's done 3x now. Twice yesterday and once before.. I'm almost waiting on the RROD.. we shall see, I know I'm not the only person who's Fallout 3 has froze on them. Way-to-go processors!
