I don't know about anyone else, but I never saw a disclaimer on the box when I bought FFXI that said, "Hey, bust your ass raising a charater, get all the best gear you can, then watch helplessly as we arbitrairly nerf it!"

On this note, the changes to RNG and NIN are complete and utter bullshit. As far as I can tell, SE wants RNG's to stand back like a BLM and shoot 7-8 arrows/bullets/bolts per fight. Seems if they go to work and really rip the ass out of a monster with this new distance rule, the monster will come after them thus closing the required distance gap, and forcing the RNG to run around like a moron to get the right errr, range, again. Lame IMO. NIN changes are self explanitory. Weak.

I'm glad SE see's fit to screw with job's and how they pefrorm in a battle situation. I'll be thinking about how great it is that NIN's have to loose enmity with each shadow as I wait for the door to Tenshudo to open. Even better, maybe I'll take time to reflect on ranged accuracy being determined by distance as I sit like an asshole and wait 11 minutes for the airship, so I can board and wait another 3 for it to actually take off, and another 5 to actually travel. Good times. Thanks SE, glad to see you have your prioritys straight.

I thought the ranger varying damage can be used as an advantage. If rangers tend to steal a lot of hate with their high damage before and the tank can't really adjust, then the ranger will just have to change his/her shooting range to help the tank. I think it's genius to be able to control hate/damage like that. Unless being lazy and not enjoying all the aspects of a job is fun.

Agood sturdy PLD shouldnt have any trouble holding anything, right off the top of my head I can list 3, Greco, Kile, Truegrave. I've seen Kile and Truegrave hold Uliwela, and if you know/have pty'd with him than you know thats not an easy task. Job changes still seem lame to me. It was always fun to rip off Slug-Shot, Barrage, Slug-Shot, then duck behind a PLD for cover.

This has been covered to death...so i will sumarise what i remember of it.

RNG is really really overpowered. The nerf will make them less powered...yeah it happens. Remember DRG? that nerf still holds the record as far as i am aware for screwing over a job, and i doubt the RNG will take its place.

the NIN nerf is cool for anyone /NIN who doesn't want to tank although it will make NIN tanking harder...but most NIN can't tank without a THF or /THF anyway so it probably will not be that huge a change.

In summary SE is way to friendly with the nerfing stick but there really isn't much we can do about it. That about sums it up i think...if it doesn't search for the "SE Strikes again!" or something. Shouldn't be that far down.

A classic quote about evolution: Move, adapt, or die. I don't recall whine, bitch and complain in there.

I mentioned this in another thread already, but in answer to the OP; the warning before you start the game asks you not to waste your life on it, something i think this update is actually designed to help with.

It says somewhere on the box "Online Play may change" or something to that effect

Doesn't it say something like that whenever you log on? I don't remember, it's been so long.

I know it says something about forgeting your family.. or life.. thing.. or something.

Yeah, with the new update after playing for 24 hours straight a big message comes up saying "get a life!" and bans you for a day.

Yep. This update will doubtlessly make RNG completely and utterly useless. Cannon parties will ceast to exist; in it's place, prepare to see multi-BST parties breaching chain 14 by killing - whoa! Newborn babies! Also coming up in the October patch, BRD can equip uzis! SE decides to gimp everyone (at the request of multiple RNG players) by removing the ability to log in unless you play as RNG!

Come on man... as was stated, look at the DRG "gimp" - they still outdamage damn near everything once you include the wyvern hits, post-"gimp". I sincerely doubt that RNG will be any less effective following this patch; you'll just have to put a little more thinking behind the shooting.

I mean, shit... the hardest thing RNG has to do is pull (and I know, avoiding links can be difficult at times. I'll give you that). But try taking drk, pld, war, rdm, thf, nin... any multi-purpose job to 60+. Rng is particularly simple in the effort required once the mob is at camp; all it takes is money.

I'm sorry if SE is asking you to think while hitting that RA macro. Most rng I see and know can handle it. Those bitching about this "nerf", obviously, cannot.

The movement dosent so much anger me as the screwing up of pty stability. If I wanted to run around in circles I'd play BRD or THF. The damge output of RNG has always been the incentive to the cost. Just sayin it's fucked-up to screw with that.

Apparently there is a huge thread over in "General Discussion" about all these issues. That being said, I'll leave this thread to die, be locked, be moved.

I've parsed just about all of my parties since before level 60. I haven't had the pleasure to party with many DRGs, but they all do very respectible damage once you include wyvern damage. For example, in my last party, the DRG was doing more damage than the BLM, and was coming very close to matching my damage. Before I got Spinning Slash, just about every time I partied with a DRG, he out damaged me.

No, DRGs aren't the "omguberdmg" job. But they're far from gimp or weak.

I've had similar experience with Sethala... the drg in our 40s static is consistantly killing our rng with wyvern dmg included, and that's using crappy weapon skills. Granted, the last time I partied with a drg higher than that was in the mid-50s, but he still landed in the top 3 DD's (almost positive there was a rng and blm in the group as well).
