I am Bastokan and had top bastokan fame. I also have a compulsion to get all the maps in the game even if I don't need them.

Well since Bastok is in 2nd place for conquest I could finally buy cornettes in bastok and travel to windy to get higher fame. After 4 trips I noticed that the price of cornettes had gone up which means my bastok fame went down. I had always thought that getting fame in each city was independent of the others but now know that to be false.

First did my fame drop simply because I did the quests and gained fame or did it drop because windy was in 1st at the time and I was doing windy fame quests as a bastokan?

Second is there a quest I can do easily that will increase both windy fame and bastok fame?

There are quests that will lower your fame in other cities, I can't remember which ones they exactly are though.

And as far as I know there is no quest to raise both windy and bastok fame, but I c ould be full of filthy lies.

There is no quest, to my knowledge, that increases both fame. Sandy, Jeuno, Bastokan fame with the Boyoda Moss in Selbina. Otherwise, Kazham/Windy fame are seperate.

I find that actually very odd. I didn't know that doing that particular quest LOWERED your Bastok fame. I knew doing certain quests did as well as some tenshodo quests, but that particular one?
That one has been an "exploit" for windy fame for some time. I wonder if SE didn't just decide to "Adjust" it.....

I don't think the increase in price is an indicator of a decrease in fame, but the came adjusting the next day price due to demand. I've seen it at numerous other NPCs.

Is it just possible the price rises when you purchase large quantities of the cornettes reducing the NPC's stock? Sort of like Guild Merchants have a limited supply and buying the stock out completely one day, increases the price the next due to a limit in supply. It's possible a lot of players like yourself noticed Bastok in 2nd place and decided to do the same thing thus greatly reducing the NPC's supply of cornettes. I'm not entirely possitive, but I thought this was common with most NPCs in the 3 starter cities.

Check the bard who tells your fame level to see if you actually went down in fame. Prices are not always an indicator of fame, are affected by more than just fame and sometimes are not even affected by fame at all.

The WORST fame to get is the {Norg} fame. Its a pain in the ass. You either farm 250 yagudo necklaces (and pray thats enough) or you do about 75-100 zinc ore. The yagudo necklaces drop more often than the zinc ore, but the ore gives you more fame.

Either way, you will need to farm your ass off in order to get your fame up for quests like Tonko and Utsusemi.

Um... raising Norg Fame is easy. It's just that most people don't really want to risk their airship pass. Set your HP in Sandy, and go mine or fish in the grotto. When you're full and ready to sell your wares in Jeuno, take the smuggling quest (and the Discerning Eye quest if you need the fame) and head to Jeuno by airship. When you're done, just warp back and repeat.

It how I got my smithing to 24, Sandy fame to 8 and Norg fame to 6.

actually farming up the yagudo necklaces is rather easy. any time i got really bored i cleared out my inventory as much as possible which allowed me to make 11 full trades to the NPC. did this a couple of times and sometimes LS friends came along which made it go alot faster. even got a few shots at Hoo while i was there but no monster signa ><
