Just thought up of this idea where we could talk about an explain our favourite freeware games and probably provide (safe) links to said freeware games so we could have fun ^^

I'll start with two good ones =):

洞窟物語, Dōkutsu Monogatari (Cave Story)

This is a great game from an independent developer called Studio Pixel (Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya).

Players take control of a amnesiac robot named "Quote" inside an island inhabited by rabbit like creatures named "Mimigas". The Island is ruled by "The Doctor" and its the player's duty to defeat the Doctor, save the Mimigas and a person named "Sue" and escape the Island.

This is a fantastic game and its been said by 1up that it is "so massive that it rivals modern GBA Castlevania and Metroid games in terms of scope and play time."

I Wanna Be The Guy: The Movie: The Game (abbreviated IWBTG)

The true test of gaming, this would be the game to play if you were sent to gamer's hell, although you would only play on impossible mode XD

Not much I can say other than this game will piss you off!

Ok then, begin =D

IWBTGTMTG is hardly a test of gaming. It's a test of memorization. As well, the only difference between the difficulties is how spaced out save points are.

Dwarf Fortress is a nice time sink. I haven't played since they made the move to psuedo 3D though.

Having my interest piqued by Ian of Mac Hall/3PS, S4 is a pretty fun and fast 6 v 6 arena third person shooter. The weapons range from dual SMGs, automatic rifles, rail guns, to the "Cannonade"(which is an arm mounted cannon,) plasma swords, and sentry turrets. You can carry up to three weapons and have an interchangeable skill. This skill offers up some tactical advantages/disadvantages. Theres extra health, a grappling hook, wings to fly, a barrier shield that absorbs enemy bullets, and a constructible wall usable for cover or blocking a route. Although, not to be considered all powerful, the wings and the grappling hook merely allow you to get to higher places faster. Almost always there is a way to get to the top of a structure by wall jumping back and forth. The grappling hook is the quickest, but leaves you the most vulnerable as not only does the chain show people where you're going, you're forced stationary as you use the skill until it hits to whatever you launched it at..

There are two modes - Touchdown and Death Match. Touchdown is a football-style game where you have to take the "ball" to the goal without dying, otherwise you drop it, duh. Death Match is.. well, death Match. Currently in the English client, there is only one map for each mode, as opposed to the Korean client, which has loads more, as well as more weapons(eg, the claw) and skills(eg, cloaking.)

It's quite fun and I highly recommend it. Right now I'm Rookie Rank 5 on the English servers. Almost too high to play on the beginner servers anymore. But if anyone would like to play, I'm not opposed to creating another character to team up with you.

Seconding the recommendation for S4. It's maddeningly enjoyable, and I use it to kill some time when I'm waiting for class to start.
And Skaw, Intermediate and Free have more maps than Beginner. I guess they set it up so people aren't overwhelmed with maps when they start out. My favorite TD map so far has to be Station-1.

Oh ok, so the maps are just limited in beginner? I thought it was because of the Korean client being further along. I haven't stepped off beginner because my K/D ratio is far too high to play on intermediate since I've always pulled off at least 30 kills a match and at most 9 deaths.

Also, whats your name so I can add you to my friend list D:

We're still missing a few maps (Station-2 stands out for me) and weapons, but they're there. Off the top of my head, we've got NEDEN-1 through 3, Tunnel, Old School, and Station-1.
Not too many people step into Intermediate from what I've seen. They just hop right over to Free-1, so it's still easy to spot those with less skill, and there's less blatant laggers than on Beginner.

Do more people carry around the teammate healing item in Free-1/Free-2? They're nearly non-existent on the Beginner servers.

Not from what I've seen. I carry one on my 1st character, but the only time it really sees use is in TD anyway.
