Was deciding whether or not to bother getting HQ staves when there's a possible -3 perp cost for all summons with a much cheaper fay crozier. My only question is, does anyone know if avatars gain any atk/acc or magic atk/acc from the elemental staves as well? Or do they only give the - perp cost?

Thanks

Perp only.

Good luck working on that -3 perp, though. Its the highest-tier for perp-down that I know of outside of the Mythic, so you've gotta roll high in order to get it. Expect lots of junk staves with BP- and Pet Attack+2 on it.

My staff came out pretty nicely, though. 2 perp and 4 BP with 3 Acc. Its possible to get some Magic Attack on it, too, so you could in theory get 3 perp, 5 BP and I think 4 Magic Attack.

Bahamut staff and HQ staffs? @_@

It really depends on the person. If you have multiple jobs that use staves then stay with the HQ staves. If you don't and don't feel like spending millions of millions of gil then get the Crozier. Don't forget, with the Crozier there is also a chance at Att/acc/MAcc/MAtt and some other meh stuff.

Crozier goes just as high and is a lot easier and cheaper to obtain.
Even if it takes more then one try to get the wanted augments on it.

I have 6/8 of the HQ Staffs, and I plan to keep trying for a -3 Cost Crozier. I tried once and got a -2, but lately I've been seeing people with -3 and that's been making me want to keep trying! Also, like Myrrh mentioned, there is the chance you could get other benefits to your avatar, something HQ staffs can't give you.

If I ever get it, I can sell off a couple of HQ staffs, and just keep the couple I use for BLM. :D

Bad phrasing. I was referring to the -3 perp being the best available augment, and the odds of getting -3 perp on the Crozier are not so great. If you can get away with carrying one staff instead of 8, that's sort of a no-brainer, especially considering almost all of the Crozier augments also feature pet bonuses.

Like Myrrh said. It depends on the person, I dont find fay worth getting for me because i'd still need all my HQ staffs. It would be invo-1 for some pet stats. Which is a good thing but with the rate, time, gil of getting -3 prep and a noticably good pet enhancement its not quite worth it to me. Bahamut staff though... i'd like that if I had a chance at it though because it doesn't look like a dark staff, and its stats arn't random and are better.

When would you actually need every single one of the HQ staves though, provided you had the -3 Corzier? Light/Dark for whm, Light/Earth for brd, thuder/ice/dark for blm, light/dark/wind/earth/ice for rdm; when would you actually use the fire/water staves? It sounds more like "Since I already have all HQ staves, anything but that isn't as good" rather than their being a real reason to own all 8 HQ staves. You could sell an HQ staff or two(even the two you don't need) and that'd easily pay for a ton of tries on the -3 crozier, so cost really isn't that much of a factor.

I didn't say it wasn't as good. Because the Fay Crozier is better, when I said its a good thing I ment it as, the Fay Corzier is better just not worth it to me personally.

Not extremly important but I use Fire and Water on RDM and COR, for nukes and quick draw really depends on the situation though. Also rarely but I shoot with Vulcan Staff on COR when I can't melee but still want to do some dmg along with fire shot. Also not important but I do use Neptune as a MND piece for stoneskin. I like to use what I have thats all. The other ones get good use pretty much from RDM,COR,BST,PLD ect.

And I augmented them all because I really don't plan on ever selling them.

Useful
CHR+1 on Apollo
MND +1 on Terra

Ok
Resist Blind+1 on Vulcan
Resist stun+1 on Aquillo
Earth resist+ something on Neptune.

Useless
MND+1 on Jupiter(No use)
Healing magic skill+4 on Pluto
VIT+1 on Auster(I think, something not useful)

I just wouldn't feel right without having them all.

Yeah, this is why I prefaced my statement with "if you can get away with it." I know I've got inventory problems since I'm stupidly leveling mage jobs and melee jobs and lowbie jobs and keep all of my gear on me, so not having 8 slots taken for staves where I've only got one helps quite a bit. Of course, my stupid ass is leveling black mage, too, so I'm going to end up with all of those sticks back...

To each their own. Dedicated mages will have all of the HQs necessary, people who are only summoner and white mage can look into the crozier, or you can do both, or neither.

congrats! And to the debate I use fire staff a lot in Einherjar and in brothers enm as my rdm. Also the elemental boosts are nice when you fight imps. The higher your fire resist the better the odds of amnesia not working on you.

A good combo fey staff beat any staff minus maybe mystic. When you get combo like this (1 weapon 3rd try by the way)

and that not even best combo you get more atk or bp-. Couple it with the 2nd staff there (merph ANNM) for siphons and merit bp and you will have a set that can rival that of mythic.

Eeeh.. No.
While that combo may occasionally beat a Bahamut's staff, the Mythic Nirvana is an entire league of its own.

SE isn't stupid enough to make anything that is that is able to rival an item that is harder to get then a stage 5 relic weapon.

And even though I say it 'may beat' a Bahamut's we're still looking at two facts:
- Bahamut's staff gives an extra 30MP.
Which with the right gear is at least 6 ticks of perpetuation.
- You carry one staff for multiple purposes.
With the gear I carry around I need all the inventory space I can get, 2 more skill then a Bahamut's doesn't justify an extra inventory slot.
Don't worry, with 336 summoning magic skill you hardly get resisted anyway.

Aside from that, with both perpetuation reduction and summoning magic skill on one item you need less slots to cap out Avatar's favor.

You miss the fact of the attack/acc on fay or bp down? Which would do more then the smn magic. You don't even need carry around 2nd staff unless you want little buff on your siphons and merit bp. Which if you look above you see that what i said I used it for. As for the 30 mp it minimal bonus at best, because you most likely wont get back up to full mp after that first cast anyway and even if you do it a waste because you be using a dark/pluto when you rest. Making that 30 mp useless.

Summoning Skill is widely accepted to add 1acc/1macc per point over Level cap, so Bahamut's also translates into a direct +5acc/macc on BPs if you have capped skill (as every summoner who takes the job seriously should). I've seen up to 7matk/macc, so Bahamut's is only minimally a step behind.

My BP- gear is currently redundant, I'm at -18 which is a waste of 3, which is ironically exactly what's on my staff. I'm thinking of going back to try and just get -3 perp.

Think you miss understood what i was saying, the having -3 prep on the fay is a given im talking about the other stats on the 2 weapons b staff ( mp, sum mag) fay (atk/acc or bp down). (see post 16)
