This is a photography contest! Everyone, it is time to dust off those greasy 35 mm and get to it! Well, digital cameras are of course much better! Get with the times my QCDN fellows.

I am seriously sitting here trying to decide on a theme that would be interesting. Lately, ever the philosophist that I am, I have been amazed by the small things. Life, happiness, sadness etc... fleeting things. The 'small things' will, of course, vary person to person so really this competition can still be a very general picture contest.

The rules:

1. All work must be your own.
2. Photoshop may only be used to resize. No edits!
3. 1280x1024 resolution or higher. (Think desktop/wallpaper quality)
4. Must have a sentence or two providing some artistic insight to the picture. What did you see? What did you like? How do you justify it as 'fleeting' or 'ephemeral'?
5. This competition may or may not be anonymous. Please do not post what you submitted!
6. Mail entries to [email protected]. Subject: <character name> :: February
7. Semi rule: It would be more fun if people submit images taken after the start of the contest.

Deadline: March 15th, 2008

Gogo!

I'm going to say no. The ease of attaining a gmail account, and the timeframe currently -- you have plenty of time to make an email addy and stuff. This contest not rushed.

Is it allowed to take photos of erect things?:spiteful:

Oh, no, I simply meant an erect building or statue.

I erected it yesterday... notrly

I'd prefer the original. I will doctor up the lightness/darkness if necessary.

I've had plenty of awesome photographs that don't need editing =\

I'm not gonna apply. Half of photography is editing. Why leave that out.

Half of photography is editing

Half of photography is editing

Ever hear of a dark room? Skills such as burning, dodging, filters, pulling, pushing, double contrast, split filtering. Seriously. If you want to make a photography contest do it right.

Unless i can enter pictures that i took like these:
Jamie_Houck_A_Little_Drive.jpg

Jamie_Houck_Creeping_Trees.jpg

Jamie_Houck_06.jpg

Jamie_Houck_01.jpg

Then the hell with it. It isn't like it was OMG PHOTOSHOPED to hell, all i ever do if mess with brightness, contrast, and saturation. All which can be done in a darkroom.

Edit: can i enter this since it was taken with a 35mm and in no way photoshopped? Did EVERYTHING in the darkroom, just scanned it into the computer.

So am I to understand that this is an art contest where you feel it's OK to doctor someone else's work in the competition if you dislike the lighting? That's essentially along the same lines as going up to the Mona Lisa and painting over top of all those smoky outlines to sharpen it.

Also, I agree with Kelyon. Half of photography is editing. You may have taken some good photos by just pointing and shooting; we all do. But that doesn't mean a picture can't be better by adjusting something like brightness or saturation. I think leaving that stage out is removing an integral part of the image-making process.

I don't know why I even bother... do what you want.

Thank you.

its ok arc. I liked the original idea... And it is technically your contest... Stick to your guns dude.

I like the original idea as well. It levels the playing field keeping stuff unshopped/edited. And you can get some awesome picture with just a camera. I say stick to the original idea, Arc.

; ; like the ones i took from the secret window below your house? D: D: D:

roflwaffles!
