February Contest! Submit by March 15th.

I like the original idea as well. It levels the playing field keeping stuff unshopped/edited. And you can get some awesome picture with just a camera. I say stick to the original idea, Arc.

Leveling the playing field? More like nerfing people who actually put hard work into their photography. Any fucking moron can take a picture.

I disagree, it takes talent as well to be able to take a picture w/o photocropping it.

It takes alot of talent to find that perfect picture that doesn't need the editing.

I can prove you wrong...

If I remotely remember, I'll try and snap something.

And also, it takes greater skill to take a photo that doesn't require editing, then to take one that does, to enhances it's quality...

No need to be a fucking dick, just because you aren't getting your way. These are the rules, get the fuck over it, or don't enter the damn contest. Whining and stomping your feet is going to get you nowhere.

Same, I have a gooood feeling about this one.

Saying that you can't even do the most basic editing of photography skills if like saying you are not aloud to use Photoshop to make a sig Iso. It is dumb. Sure, setting up light readings, aperture, and speed it something that takes some skill, but that is half of photography.

To Jyak: I won't even bother with you.

To Helius: Just go away.

To Arc: Just rename the contest "Photography Contest for Novices". Like i said, anyone can take a picture. If you don't believe me, look on myspace or facebook. Like you said, it is your contest do what you want. I am sure artist like Taylor Deyoung, Kate Morrill, Robert Hein, Craig Williams never edit their photos. I am pretty sure they just shoot orgasm with their film.

Also, anyone who uses a darkroom edits their picture because they HAVE to. When you expose the film you choose a time which messes with the lightness and darkness. So no film shots? Also no flashes.

I get what you're getting at, especially if you really know your tools. But it's the fact that you don't *have* to edit the photos, to get something cool. You can do anything with photoshop, and other editing methods and programs. But it's to see what you can do without that stuff.. I don't see why it's so utterly important to be allowed to edit the photos we submit.

I am not even talking about photoshop. I am talking about the darkroom. I have hundreds of images, but i used filters and different times. According to Master Photographer Arc that is editing.

To Iso: didn't mean to be a dick about it in the statement i made. Just I as a photographer am laughing at this contest.

Seriously? Who are you to tell the creator of the contest to rename it, or to change the rules to suit your needs? This isn't "Kelyon's Photo-funtastic Voyage", it's a freaking contest on a free forum. What prizes do you think are involved here?

Here are just a tiny bit of unedited pictures that, personally, I find to be better than any shopped-job out there..granted I'm no pro.

So your options are to either (a)live with the rules as they are, and show off your talents as a natural photographer, or (b)don't participate. Damn.

Sorry for expressing my opinions as a photographer. Also, i never said you couldn't get good images by just shooting.

Look, i can do it also.

I am just saying, anyone can take a picture.

PS: I like your first shot Tristam

stine took it on our honeymoon.

I know it is a worthless contest and all. I am just saying that leaving OUT editing is half of the job. For me, half of the work is going out taking the pictures, but it does not end there. You go into the darkroom, burn, dodgeing and all that fun stuff to get the best image you can get. I am not saying you can't get decent ones by just going "Point-click", obviously you can, look at Tristams.

I can honestly see both sides of the argument but it's the QCDN photo contest and if he wants it to be non edited then it should be that way. I've heard more photographers say that anyone can take a picture and edit it in Photoshop. Yes, I know that dark rooms, different cameras, and different films are the real photographer's playground. To me this contest seems to be more of a challenge to see what you can get with your camera, natural light, and creative subject matter. Professional photographers probably would see this as an amateur contest but it seems like a storytelling with photo contest to me.

Also, thanks for the comment. :) Photography is only a hobby for me but I do like seeing how I can experiment with light and different subjects. Tristam likes to steal my good pictures. *huggles Tristam* I do photo edit but only with Photoshop. I have no access to a darkroom and I only have a digital camera.

EDIT: Also real photography is not about point-click. Real photography is taking a photo that will mean something. Catching the right moment and the right light can make all the difference. Sometimes it's luck sometimes it's a staged photo shoot. Anyone can take a picture but only photographers can take a picture that tells a story and leaves the viewer with an impression of wonder.

Kelyon, I find your 'high-and-mighty' remarks incredibly annoying. I think it would be best for you to step back, look at this contest, and see that I have nothing to gain or lose in doing this.

There are pictures I have seen, taken by standard 35 MM pictures, that knock the shit off of 'professional' pictures I have seen. Not cropped/lightened/contrasted/silhouetted or any of those buzzwords 'real artists' use to describe themselves. This is not an artistic contest, this is a photography contest. Take a look at any of Tristam's pictures, or pictures from Yellowstone on a cold winter evening. Take a look at pictures shot in Alaska. Those are incredible, breathtaking, and absolutely perfect without edits or artistic touches.

(EDIT: Please read Stine's post. It captures my exact meaning there.)

Thats all i want to see, because photography is not necessarily something you should want, or even need to edit. There should be some empathy to the picture itself, and the only justification I can directly offer is watching on NatGeo "Winter in Yellowstone." That is where I got this competition idea from.

I apologize for my novice mastery of photography.

Different post; different idea.

I don't want to leave a sour taste in your mouth that I do not respect your ability to create incredible images with the techniques you describe. It is cool stuff, but I was just wanting a competition everyone could participate in and not feel like they need the ability spruce it up perfectly.

all i hear is bitch bitch bitch from y ou kelyon, seriously. You are egging people on with this type of debacle. I said nothing but the truth, it isnt your contest, it isn't your site, it isn't your decision to change things. You don't like the contest, then don't enter. Its real easy.

And if i was tristam i'd find what you just said about his picture taking very offensive. Photos that aren't edited are NOT just point click. Don't compare what people take in a club randomly, to what people do as a hobby.
