I am not entirely sure what you mean. Perhaps it is different for PS2 players, I am a PC user. As far as I know I only pay for FFXI, for the FFXI Content ID, and the PlayOnline membership is free.

If I am not mistaken, you will have to pay SquareEnix 12.95 for your content ID for FFXI. I don't believe there are any fees asssociated with using the broadband connection for SONY.

Everyone else is doing it...

Not sure if this is what you are talking about. I play on playstation too. I used temp credit cards to pay for it and each month when I look at my statement my $15 (three characters) is taken out as well as another $1 for some reason. It's put back onto my account after a few days. I have yet to find out what it is though.

Don't they charge some kind of activation fee when you first start out?

Wow, this thread was started almost a year ago, why was this resurrected, LOL.

yeah, i noticed that too, I never look at the dates of posts. /sigh

This is sometimes used as a way to make sure the persons card is not maxed out. Big companies like Dell will initially put down a charge larger than the purchase price, but then reduce it back to what you bought the item for once the authorization is cleared from your Credit company.

No no no, here, let me.

Actually, no. I've just been seeing people I know ask some of these questions to me so I thought it might be a popular idea to bump this up to help those that didn't know.
