Anyone know if I bought a ps3 controller and plugged it into my pc would I be able to configure it to play ffxi? Is there some special software I would need to install or adaptor I would need to purchase?

Thanks

You can do it with a Ps2 controller if you buy a USB adaptor over the internet. It'd be cheaper than a PS3 controller too.

Just buy a $20 dollar usb ps2 look alike controller.

I did this. Went onto ebay, bought a new (not used) usb PS2 adapter for about $5. The adapter also has 2 ports, so you can have 2 people with PS2 controller play some other games if you happen to have multiplayer games on your PC.

Bought it over a year ago, maybe nearly 2, still works like a charm. Plus, I like to use PSX controllers more, actually, because the pressure sensitive buttons of the PS2 controllers irritate me... I assume PS3 has the same buttons, but I dont know.

Just to answer about the PS3 controller part, incase you did want to spend more money, yes you can. Your computer needs to have a bluetooth receiver to do it.

or can go buy a $20 usb controller that looks just like the ps2 controller, which is about what you would pay for the adapter with S&H. There a config controller box in ffxi config application (can be found on start menu) and any controller will work long as it is usb plug & play compatible.

OR... You can buy a $10 Logitech PS2 mimic controller and save a hassle and some green. Got mine at Wal-Mart and it lasted most of the 3.5-4 years I played.

Whatever you do... DO NOT BUY A RECOIL PAD, OMG

I first bought one without knowing they blow... Then I thought "shit never again." Then I did buy another about 3 years later thinking maybe they fixed their problem. I was wrong.

Within the first three days you have it, the joystick screws up... Your character will start to walk without even touching it, and it only gets worse from there.. Soon, it will start running, and you wont even be able to move in the opposite direction, or scroll through menus or macros... Annoying as hell, and it is a hardware problem... Not one of those "dont hold joystick while loading." I know several other people that had the same problem.

Also, these damn things cost like 15 bucks

Or get a Saitek gamepad, those things kick huge ass. Better form than PS1 pads imo and the latest ones have four shoulder buttons AND six face buttons, which is freakin' awesome.

And of course click-in stick "buttons" and an 8-way dpad that feels really nice.

actually with a ps3 controller yes
you can use the USB cable that came with it and connect it to your pc and run a piece of software

it wont be wireless, so youll actually Need the USB cable for this

let me go find it real quick
