SE get really bored one day? Notice the yoda in there? I think someone stayed at work for 30 hours, and programmed for 16 hours straight >.<
Either that or someone went off their rocker during programming.

There are also a suprising amount of references to movies and tv shows hidden in the dats. Most of them are just placeholders, so we never get to see them :(

i wonder if they'd do some funky cinematic CS for everone everywhere if they HAD to do a server rollback (somehow something was megahacked) and they used that scene in Uzors post

It's pretty much placeholders while they were developing. They're still in there mostly because SE could at any time use the placeholder .dats for a new scenario. All MMORPGs do this.
 
Boy reading that brings back memories of high school when I was a computer programmer for a technical/vocational high school.

We used to use all sorts of references.
Some of them were hilarious; others even people might have thought as obsurd. But hey it helps pick up from where you left off when you have tons of code in a sheet. We mostly used it in C++.

Ahhh...those were the days. :-D
 
Oh, also, a lot of professional programmers love to put random junk into their code, especially in the comments, just to... er... keep sane... during long hours.

Yep. Debug and place holders.

They've been in pebble's polutils for a long time, if you check the .dats and look in one of the menus on the top (I think it just says cheats).

You'll probably find that developers have access to these features while testing things like NMs, quests, missions etc. etc. So they dont actually have to wait till JP midnight to continue on the quest they coded :biggrin:
