Now, on the idea that these games were meant to have fun with each other. You are right, but they are mostly meant to be a source to have "fierce" competition. Experienced MMO gamers don't come onto a game to have a good time at the expense of others, they come here to make a name for themselves(Making a few friends in the process.) Go play THUG II Online and tell me how long it takes before someone makes you cry s'more.

ROFL “experienced MMO Gamer”. I started playing MUDs and Door Games (which where the first MMOs) over 12 years ago. Guess what, nothing has changed. We had theses same problems then.

Boy...does that bring back memories... good ol' text rpgs... and I couldn't even devote any time to those... My friend got me in one of those and yeah, I got lost in all the text.

As for this whole opinionated situation.....people who are obsessed with levelling aren't really going to enjoy FFXI to the fullest. It's been said before but there's plenty to do other than level.... I mean... I was at level 43 for six months. In this past month, I got to level 50 (just hit 50 today). Yeah, whoopie doo, I hit level 50 with the high demand job of 50. Well, it also took many freakin bad parties to endure while doing that. And honestly, I give everyone a fair chance, but a bad player is a bad player and I can deal with one bad party. I can even deal with two bad parties, but three, four, five, six... and so many bad parties have started to wear my patience. I mean, I don't have a static so I'm stuck with pick up parties, but it doesn't mean i have to LIKE these bad parties. I can understand why people would want to level with people who know what the heck they're doing. If you haven't mastered your job by level 50..... I think people need some lessons. I would expect someone to be giving me advice by then.

But yeah, back to the other stuff, I dont' know... I don't purely play just to level. I play to farm, explore, chat, run into people I know and craft. Some people are like "Well, I'm too lowly to explore.." I was exploring the world at level 14.... sure I died..but it was... Marlboros were very scary (and I probably spelt that wrong).

If your friend is so nuts over levleling to 75, what will he do then? He'll just quit the game then? or start the process over again? The best way to go about it would be to try to get a static if he's that nuts about levelling...

Also I assume you are talking about Tony Hawks Underground 2 as it is the only game I know of called THUG 2. It is not even a MMO, it is an online game. There is a difference between a MMO and an online game. To be considered a MMO game it must support multiple simultaneous users and have a persistent world. Though Diablo II was often called a MMORPG, it was really a Online RPG, because the world was not persistent.

Let's get started, shall we?

Players,armor and subjobs :-
Ok i dunno why, but day by day i'm finding out that most ppl who play ffxi have mental and emotional problems or most of them are perfectionalists or w/e.

I'll start by saying yes, I AM a perfectionist. With myself. I don't hold anyone else to my own standards, which, to be honest, are ridiculous. One's self can always be better.

wolfskymoon said:
First of all u guys make crazy ideas spread them and then u arent willing to accept anything else.Like lets say u have in mind that the best is rng and blm u still should consider that other jobs are equally balanced also, and do a good job in different setups.(Btw i hear this new stuff about not inviting wars sams dragoon and others) .

I'll have to agree with this, people aren't giving some jobs the credit they deserve. I'm against this greatly, and to be honest, Squeenix has done a nice job of balancing the jobs.

wolfskymoon said:
K lets say u get 10k exp an hour still whats gonna happen in the end?.You'll get to 75 abit faster or something.

"a bit faster" is an understatement. I've got @20k staring down at me now, and it's going to get worse. I don't want to have to spend days on end gaining one level. 3000 EXP per hour or less is unacceptable, since even a mediocre party should be able to get 4k+.

wolfskymoon said:
Like most whms have this in their comment [ veteran].Wtf u mean by veteran.I mean i hate that guy with that on his comment.One day he was new too what about then and now he leveled a whm or something to level 75 and he wants veterans for some reason i dont understand.

{Veteran} {Party} ONLY
Yup. That's definitely in my comment. Saw some other people put it in, and thought "Damn. That's a good idea." So there it is.
Also seen in my comment a lot:
Blind Invite = {No, thanks.}

There's a reason for that. I'm sick of joining parties that amount to nothing more than a joke. One day recently I ran to Cape Teriggan FIVE times, and only killed about two mobs in that entire time. I've had people up and leave the party, Paladins who don't use their JAs or cure themselves at all, people who don't have the slightest clue how to play their jobs in general.

Yes, I want veteran players. The ones who have LEARNED their job the past 59 levels and understand their role in a party and basic courtesy.

wolfskymoon said:
THis game is goin no where but downhill.

Agreed, but probably for different reasons.

wolfskymoon said:
Everyday the stat requirements are increasing along with the price of items.Just look at the price of emperor hairpin its freakin 670k and this guy said to me "Hey if i was u i wont tank without a emp hairpin" and i was like wtf .

If you were a ninja of a decent level, which is an ADVANCED job, it's definitely something to think about. Ninja isn't really cheap, and that's no secret. Keep in mind, with many of these items, there are OTHER ways to obtain them than buying them, and replacements now.

Then i dont see tailorfw online for a while maybe he quit or something and that guy helped me and others for hrs and hrs and got almost nothing back.He was helping some friend get rdm AF and another whm started yelling at him cuz he was 56 and didnt have raise 2. (He wasnt partying those days).We were about to try farming some mobs together but he hasnt logged in two weeks.

Raise 2 and 3 are touchy subjects, but I'm going to say he should have at least had Raise 2 at level.

wolfskymoon said:
Mages:-
FFXI gave whms the ability to raise and BLMs the ability to warp.but unfortunately a large number of players just walk over corpses or refuse to warp at all.Like if u spend half a minute and 100 mp on a guy to warp him back to jeuno how much would it hurt you? it wont obviously take you 30 to 50 mins. And not raising someone just because he was in ur camp is pointless also cuz i'm sure that guy is gonna come back and camp their again or try to take revenge some other day.Hence more garbage.

Once again I'm not getting at what you're saying. If you're talking about Warp II, no, no BLM in Vana'diel is remotely required to perform your bidding and warp you, just as us WHMs are not required to teleport you.

You also mention not raising someone "because they're in your camp". I get the feeling that you may be talking about people in a party performing these services. I, for one, will not pass up a dead body UNLESS...
1) I'm in a party and we're in the middle of stuff.
2) It's very inconveniencing to me. (On a chocobo, hurrying somewhere, etc.)
3) The person is a jerk.

Gil:-
So what i mean to say is day by day this game is becoming [incred - tough] for college students who need to study for their future,ppl who work long hrs and students like me.Also people in Ffxi are greedy as hell for something that doesnt even matter much.I mean Nm drops are suppose to be rare and ppl are campin em like fck and are botting them.People are so crazy that they buy gil online with real money and encourage the gil selling (Shame on you dude).

Gil is hard to come by? Yup.
People are greedy as hell? Yup.
You'll have that anywhere though, really.
Botting and gil buying, I'm strongly against, but they're a reality, and it hurts stuff. Not much that can be done from our end.

Other games ;-
I play WoW along and i was so damn impressed by that game.People actually help each other out.I entered this new guild and i asked questions and no one called be [ noob - this word doesnt make any sense].
my guild leader welcomed me and gave me tips about how to level in different areas and also came on his mount while he was passing through and gave me 4 bags and dagger that i couldnt afford at that moment.I leveled skinning fast and soon i got requests for leather and and armor and i happily made armor for them and we kinda helped each other out.No need for uber gear but u must have ur level gear and try to borrow/loan from a fellow player.Alliances went and tried out monsters and if someone died they didnt whine like their whole life was turned upside down.Their might be some cheaters but atleast they dont effect the community or players or the auction house.WoW is not a better game or anything its almost the same but the community in their is alot better and caring/sharing as compared to ffxi players.LoL i never cried in two years and i was playing ffxi and i had tears in my eyes.... now thats freaky isnt it....whats goin on in here.I think maybe ppl got used to this behavior after playing with japenese who had language barrier .Sorry for typing this much and i hope u can understand my point and make sense of it.Games are suppose to be fun especially online ones where u try to beat monsters together instead of feasting on each other and making fun of each other's armor.

Blah blah blah, WoW to FFXI, Apples to Oranges.
Wait till the battle.net kiddies move in to WoW and make residence there. It'll happen, something similar happened with FFXI.

No way. That, {No, thanks.}, {I'm sorry, I'm busy now.}, and {I'm not up for it.} are useful the way the game is now.

Thanks for reading but plz think about it also.Excuse me for the spelling something wrong and grammar mistakes. :)

Someone else recommended MS word. Please do so. It was a chore to reply to this, but I quite had to this time. Whee. Long post.

Garvin, one thing I disagreed with in your last huge post was where you said SE did a good job of balancing jobs. I couldn't agree LESS!

Paladin, Ninja, Ranger, (MAYBE THF, but I have come to realize that any drk can replace us), and all the mages (including bard) are all that are critically needed at certain points for pts.

The rest: Samurai, Thief, Dark knight, Monk, Dragoon, Warrior are miscellaneous and only good if nothing else is available.

YES I UNDERSTAND THAT WHAT I AM SAYING IS VERY CONTROVERSIAL

But you know what? I don't care anymore. When I come back, I'll TRY to make it to 60....otherwise fuck it. FUCK IT ALL TO HELL! I'll start right over as a red mage. I'm tired of waiting for invites, and I'm tired of seeing all the "hot" jobs zip past me to 75, while the rest of us eat shit in Jeuno. It is ridiculous how SE made the hot jobs so much more useful and better than the others.

Yes I do admit, maybe my reputation isn't that good and maybe affecting the decision that pt leaders make when selecting me but reputation should be a minimal factor in the first place (unless you KNOW first hand he/she is an idiot, etc.)

I took the time to get as best armor/food I can, and all I get is a fucking borefest in Jeuno. I RESPECT any of the none "hot jobs" for getting to 60......I SALUTE YOU because you had the iron will and endurance to make it that far. I lost it, I went to WoW for fun, but I do intend to come back, as a thief or not!

Oh and may I point out another reason why I'm pissed.....at lvl 60, why WASTE a party slot with a thief (main reason for having thf is for hate control and miscellaneous damage at this point) when a drk can do the same initiatory SATA and then do some damage, which has been heard to be > thf damage. Wow, thank you SE for raping my time and money into a near worthless job.

Yes I am bitter because I chose the wrong job, yes I am bitter because I didn't have the patience that so many others have. Well I'm sorry, I'm so sorry that SE decided to make a horrible imballance in the jobs

Maybe I'm wrong, and GODALLMIGHTY you all better prove me wrong....because I don't want to start over!!!! :twisted:

The rest: Samurai, Thief, Dark knight, Monk, Dragoon, Warrior are miscellaneous and only good if nothing else is available.

And therein lies the (very) common misconception.
If parties are THROWN together, then yes. These jobs lack a place as much.
That's a flaw with party design.

Samurai - Can likely renkei with 2, even 3 people. Master of WS.

Thief - Master of hate control, best with Ninja, also works well with Dragoon (see DRG)

Dark Knight - Powerful DOT as well, with enfeebling magic to enhance self and weaken mob.

Monk - Powerful DOT hands down. Meat and potatoes here, folks, nothing flashy, just a beat down. Toss this guy a haste.

Dragoon - Powerful DOT (count the wyvern if you wanna parse it), allows for extra Trick Attacks that won't take hate from the tank.

Warrior - The MOST VERSATILE of all damage dealers, hands down.
They have high ranks in all weapons, and should have them all decently levelled, as different weapon types do better damage to different mob types. They also serve as a pretty good tank. Not the best, but there are far worse jobs to use for it.

To say that these jobs are worthless and secondary is a lie.
To say that their value is underappreciated, and few parties are created to use the members to the fullest, however, I'll agree with.

@Garvin

Get used to 3k xp an hour, as mobs give less xp as you need more. Now the avg. xp/hour is 3000-4000 when you need 40k to level. If you're lucky. I haven't seen a mob give over 200 in a while...save statues in Ru'Avitau

Strange those are the only parties I ever get invited to.....with that rare good party every month or so....I need better luck on this game then.

One thing you didn't address....yes warriors are very versatile. Actually they are so versatile why not slap /thf on the warrior or dark and save a party space on the thief. My argument now switches over to all these jobs that are able to replace thf....

I ask you again.

Garvin said:

OK lets roleplay now. You are a party leader, and all your party needs now is a tank, and only room for a tank. You see a paladin with a good reputation (lets use Jazper as an example) for being a good paladin and hate controller. Then you see some warrior you have never seen before, who would you choose....

and be honest.

In FFXI there is the best... then there is the rest. The rest are the best when none of the best are available ^^

I have nothing against having a Samurai or Dragoon in my PT and have had several good parties with these jobs in them, every job when the PT plays correctly to accomodate that job can make a PT great, people just gotta adjust their styles and not be so single minded when inviting one of these jobs.

However saying this, if I could every day have the setup I want I would have a PT that was setup like this --PLD, BLM, RNG, RNG, WHM, BRD or RDM--.

But for me thats the best setup Ive found to consistently bring in the most experience Ive ever had in PT's... I would just as easily trade those 2 RNG's for 2 MNKs and go PT in King Ranp's Tomb and be just as happy, but those are my bests... Im sure other people have their "bests"... when it comes down to it though I don't think people should be so close minded as to not PT with anything but their best setups.

@Svina's EXP numbers
That makes me cry. ;_;
Still, it's better EXP than I've been getting lately. No lie. :/

@THF
Assassin, enhances TA, you can basically do more powerful TAs whenever you feel like it, split up SA and TA, something of that nature. To be honest, I can't truly say, I'm not a melee, let alone a THF. I don't know everything here. :P You could, unfortunately, be right.

@PLDvsWAR
Yes, of course at that point I'd more likely pick that PLD if he were seeking. By that point, the REST of the party has been filled, and there's room for one specific job that we need. It's really an unfair question, especially since WAR shines more as a DD later on.

True, ok, well I was pointing out ONE instance of which warrior becomes secondary.

Let's see.....

OK let's pretend this is a lvl 60 group you have 2 mages, paladin, and a ranger. You see a DRK/THF, THF/NIN, and WAR/NIN. You already have a puller, what other purpose would the thf serve besides initial sata if the drk already has it? On top of that, the drk can debuff with magic, etc. War/nin...perfect! I know Wars are great DD's, they rivaled my damage before I temporarily retired! What is your choice now....

You know....I'm getting tired of these games, I should just concede to you. Whatever, I also didn't think about assassin....that could finally turn the tables on /thf....

Level 60 group fighting Torama's with a RNG........

I want the THF for the powerfull Scission SC they can make and have the Mages burst Earth onto. Yup that would be pretty much optimal.

*I don't have anything against new people and I give new people the benefit of a doubt when playing with them for the first time.

I understand the "veteran pt only" thing. A LOT of us have played more than one job beyond level 50, or close to it, and we know how to play the game now (this can be said for most people, but there are still a few tards out there). We already did our hardship time when we started the game by playing with all of the other new people that just started playing when the game was first released. The parties sucked and we had no idea how much faster exp could be, and it would take over a month just to get to level 30 (now it doesn't take that long even for the new people because they get into groups that know what they're doing, so it's still easier for new people). Now the new people that come in to the game will occasionally get into one of these really competent parties and see how fast things can really go -- which is ok, because they will probably learn a thing or two. Often times a "veteran" will join a party where everyone has only been playing for a couple weeks and still don't know how to grind effeciently and they have to go through what they went through when the game first came out, but the difference now is they know how crappy the party setup is and how bad the exp is.

Which situation would you rather be in? Joining a party that gets the fastest exp you've ever gotten, joining a party where you know the people know what they're doing and even if the exp isn't "as fast as possible" it will still be constant, or joining a party that you know is going to be slow and tedious but you do it anyway to be polite?

The first two sound much more appealing the the latter. :)

you guys are so cute when you argue about the obvious.

^^

@Garvin
All those "Other" melee jobs are find and dandy, however if there was a RNG available you would drop their ass in a heart beat and pick the RNG up. Hell if the PT was sucking I would even have the BLM D2 the weakest links ass back home. It’s like having SMN as a main healer, I mean it is DOABLE I am not going to argue that act but unless they have Fenrir odds are you are going to be far better off inviting a competent WHM if said WM is available. It’s all about order of preference really. I do not mind having these jobs in my PT so long as there is a Tank (PLD or NIN, Warriors do not cut it) a DD (RNG or BLM) Debuffer (RDM/BRD, have not exped with a BRD in months though) and a main healer, me the WHM. In those remaining 2 slots I am open to whatever but if it was possible to grab another BLM and a melee (Skillchain is needed) or two RNGs over something else I would definitely say go for it in a heartbeat. Jobs like Warrior and MNK can be very powerful if played correctly, just I rarely see that happen. I have had to come to the conclusion that 90% of the people I party with these days can not wipe their own ass without some assistance.

Garvin is not being an ass towards newbs, this is a search comment in lvl 50 parties. I am alot more forgiving to things like, "I needa pee" after a chain 2 or only being able to get a chain 2 in the Dunes then I am in say Cape Terrigan. In 40 Lvls people should have learnt how to play. They have not.

Ok I cannot say this enough. I always raise people when I walk by them but to be expected to warp someone just because I have it is BULLSHIT! I do D2s all the time when I am not busy! However I have to have anon on all the time because I get too many tells asking me for warps. And BTW I deathwarped back to Jeuno from Kazham the other day when I was on my WHM because I was "stupid" and forgot a warp scroll. I didn't go around begging people to d2 or tele me. I spend a lot of time in game helping people, however I have a character to lvl as well and I shouldn't be expected to drop everything or break a chain just because someone didn't bring a warp scroll.

I think you should lvl a BLM to 40 and get Warp II WSM. I give it 2 weeks before you get pissed off at someone for begging you for a d2 or before you call a GM for training things on you.

And if you like WoW so much please do us all a favor and go there.

i dont remember saying that someone didnt warp me. There is an auction house in khazam but none in boyahada where u can change jobs and death warp.Its so funny though ppl like u get pissed for no reason and start flaming.Like SB just said "Do us a a favor and move to WoW..."..????

w00t!!

First...why 30 - 50? Why not 16? or 60 (an hour, in case you didn't know)...

You're odd.

Second - AMEN!!! I was in a pt the other day - lvl 59-61...First, NO ONE had any oils or powders on em and it took us forever to get through LoO..THEN the whm announced they didn't use reraise because they took too much of an exp hit and informed us we should "make nice with the whim in the other pt" if we all got dead. The puller managed to get us to chain 2 only twice in an hour +..I only used convert like..3 times - and usually if a pt is going great I'm converting at least every 10-12 minutes...

I went off topic..shit..

Anyway - not having a warp something or other, a few oils n powders (see retarded melee post) is just plain STUPID. By the time you get to CN...hell - by the time you get to the jungles you should always at least have a way to warp yerself out. Not every party has a blm..and yeah - it is a big freakin deal to disband, or even raise when you're in a pt. If you've got time for the break - cool...and I've rarely seen mages say no - but they do have the RIGHT to say no.

Wolf - I'm going to call your mommy and tell her to take away your computer and your toys and get you a written language tutor and a decent social skills self-help book...

Better yet...ever considered boot camp? You seem like a prime candidate :twisted:

On one hand if you keep your equipmemnt up to date (not uber equipment but level appropriate) you'll do okay in groups. Any good game should be beatable with average gear. Now many people want to have exceptional parties and who wouldn't. The thing is to have those exceptional parties is a culmination of the group members having great gear, appropriate food, and good people behind the toons. You have to realize that the excuse of not being able to make the gil to buy great/average items falls upon unsymathetic ears when you are complaining to people who have put in the time to camp/farm/craft/fish/mine ect.

If you only want to wear average gear or even bad gear be prepared to eliminate yourself from some of the potential groups out there. There will still be other people out there that will be willing to take you on but that is just going to make your invites fewer and your waits longer. I really don't concider myself an elitest because I never check peoples gear and I realize that gear is only one component that makes a good exp party. If a party is so horrible that I can't stand it I'll leave but for now average groups are acceptable. It makes the great exp parties that much more memorable.
