I recently came across a program that allows you to view all the character models from FFXI. You can change the equipment and make them go through pretty much any motion. It's very fun. ^^ Anyway, I thought I'd share this program with everyone. It's a major PITA to get working if you don't know exactly what to do, so I made some instructions on how to do it.

Here's what I did to get it working. (Note: I'm not sure if this program even works on anything but Windows XP).

First, before you even download the program, go to Control Panel->Regional and Language Options. Once that's open, click on the the Languages tab. Check off 'Install Files for East Asian languages as shown below.

Click OK at the bottom, and let the computer install the files needed. If you installed Windows XP on your computer (i.e. it didn't come pre-loaded with the computer), you'll need the Windows XP disc for this, so hopefully you haven't lost it.

Anyway, after that's done installing, go back into Regional and Language Options, and click on the Advanced tab. In the drop down box at the top, select Japanese, as shown in the picture below.

Click Yes on the window that pops up, then yes again when it asks if you want to restart your computer.

After your computer restarts, you can go download the program here. Once you unzip the files someplace, go find the folder it's in called "FFXImodelviewer" or something close to that. In that folder, select everything and cut (ctrl+x), then go to C:\Program Files\Playonline\Final Fantasy XI and paste them there. With that done, click on FFXImodelviewer.exe and voila! Everything should work. Hopefully this helps some. The program is completely in Japanese, so have fun messing with it. :P

Methinks when that happens, what a lot of people's problem is, is that they didn't follow the instructions exactly. You HAVE to set your language for non-Unicode programs to Japanese and restart your computer BEFORE downloading and unzipping the file. Check your Lists folder; if the filenames are just a bunch of random symbols instead of Japanese characters, this is your problem. Delete the folder and unzip the files again. If they're in Japanese this time, you should be fine. Otherwise, re-download the file and see if that helps. If none of that works, I don't know what to tell ya.

But I did everything you said in the first post...Twice

(few minutes later)

Yeah the program names are in japanese still doesnt work....

Did you put the files of the model viewer in the right place? o_o

It works just fine for me. I'm not sure what the problem could be.

操作は成功する !! やった!!

Bad luck? Virus infection perhaps?

I suppose you need to have the PC version for this to work?

I can view the NPC's alright, but when ever i switch to PC, i dont get anything, and it crashes when i select anything

Hey, I'm new here, so please don't flame me for Digging up the old post :)

So I got this program working last night, and pretty much managed to work my way around it.

When you select a new peice of armor, it tells you the DAT file up the top. However, when you choose your weapon skill you want to view, it doesn't. Does anyone know the DAT files for the weapon skills?

Thanks in advance,
-Silent

**Edit**

I worked out how, if someone wants to know how I'll put it up here, then you can swap the files for those WS's you'll probably never see [Blade: Metsu].

Hi Silent, I would like to know how to replace the animations for weapon skills.

Mostly I want to replace the slug shot effect with the the final gun weapon skill. After seeing slug shot for almost 20 levels now it's not so fun.
