Why does FFXI gotta suck so bad w/the mouse? EQ, EQ2, CoH, CoV, GW, WoW, etc. Many MMORPGS & FPS games & more all have great mouse movement, however for FFXI it sux, PC users probably all like me, end up using nothing but keyboard or an attached controller. I use just keyboard for 2 years now & my left hand is starting to hurt.

FFXI was designed with the PS2 in mind, that's why the game runs completely differently than every other MMO. That's why the GUI isn't as good, the control scheme is different, and every other difference to the other games exists. This has been said many times, every time someone complains about the setup compared to an MMO. This is the only MMO that's multi-platform, so they had to make concessions to get that done.
 
I say they should redesign the way the game uses the mouse & we all (/points at PS2 users) should be using keyboard + mouse combo. Keyboard is way faster for typing & macros & targetting w/mouse too (unless in Dynamis yick)
 
Maybe you just need some precticing when it comes to mice :P
 
Why don't you guys go buy the 10 dollar usb adapter that lets you use a ps2 controller on PC. I have it and the 10 bucks is well worth it.

I have one too, but I couldn't imagine playing this game on the controller, I'm perfectly happy with the keyboard. That also doesn't solve the problem the OP mentioned, that being the mouse is completely worthless in this game.
 
People using things other than they keyboard to play FFXI?

WEAKSAUCE.

/target, /assist, /attack. The <t> <bt> commands. All those are MUCH more useful than a mouse to me. I am willing to bet I can use those in a PT and target than most can witha Mouse. I prefer to use them ontop of that.
 
I'm a PC user as well and with a very few exceptions I just use the keyboard as well. Targeting a specific person or mob in an Alliance, such as Dynamis, is pure hell with the mouse....or keyboard for that matter.

I can't imagine playing this game on the keyboard :|
 
Been a computer user for a lot of games, and I have to say that for me the mouse is annoying to use in just about any game. I prefer that games only utilize the keyboard, rather than a combonation of mouse and keyboard, for simplicity sake.

It's a real pain in the ass to have to go back and forth between keyboard and mouse sometimes.
 
Well, I just switched to PC, and here's a wierd mouse problem I have.

I have a wireless mouse, and every once in a while the mouse pointer moves to the egde of the screen by itself. And causes my camera angles to go crazy, and my PS2 controller stops working.

Its until I move my mouse cursor to the middle of the screen that it stops doing that, but only later it happens over and over again.

Is this a common mouse problem or is it just me? :(

Y'all better NOT laugh, but I don't have any problems with using the mouse AND keyboard. I use both all the time. Mebbe it's cuz both my mouse and keyboard are cordless, but they work just fine for me when playing.

Thats just the wireless mouse moving itself to the side of the screen. and the Mouse has controll priority over the Keybord.
For my wireless mouse, i just turn the thing upside down on the floor and it stops glitching.
 
I really like the way the keyboard works in FFXI. I wish more games would implement similar interfaces.
