I guess this is kinda techy, but it's related to the game so whatever.

Anyway.

If you use linux, or have ever before, you would be aware that FFXI was not compatable whatsoever with it, or wine, or any windows emulation software since it's release.

well, not anymore, apparently some very insightful people over at the windower forums and ffxiclopedia have gotten the game to work, with the help of the super dev's at winehq.

I know quite a few people whom only had windows installed at ALL because of it not working with Linux and now, it makes me and a lot of people happy.

It's still in the development process, but here's some more info to satiate your tastes:

That is great news. /Goodbye windows for good.

Edit: Just read the posts on it. Still not running like it should. Extremely low fps and keys not working. I have a feeling that it is just a matter of a short time before it's easily playable.

Well yes I kinda use my pc only for FFXI and internet so playing on Linux would be great. Problem is I never managed to play any PC games on linux even those suppsed to work, like warcraftIII etc, so I don't have any hopes really. However if they guarrantee it works with a given distribution I might just install said distribution and try it out.

They fixed that. Apparently if you press enter after you start the game the FPS jumps up to normal.

I want this. How long till vim and emacs have an ffxi macro editing mode?

My laptop now has only 1 reason to continue running the VistAIDS, school :( Visual Studio requires windows. I game with my desktop and my other PC is my PS3 running Linux, however I don't think PowerPC and x86 would play well together.

Yeah, I have unfortunate luck this semester, I have a class where you build some video game clone of some board game, has to be all DirectX, ; ;. Boooo windoze.

I have this working on Ubuntu 8.04 x86.
The instructions in the forums did leave out registering the polcore.dll and app.dll files

Information on this can be found on the wine appdb, however.

If anyone has any questions, I'll do my best to help.

You used wine 1.1.3?

If not, how did you get the git repository?

Side note: git is the awsome. I love it so much. I have the joy of having to work with morons who haven't been warped by cvs and family for school projects so I can corrupt them into using the only real SCM system.

Awww, man. I've been waiting for this!

The sole reason I dual-boot XP/Ubuntu on my laptop is so I can play FF11. I guess this means I can now go fully Linux.

Yup, I just have to plop down the $20 for the Vana'diel collection and then I'm on my way.

oh shit, i think linux and i will be reunited again ;D

Just a question to the penguins here, any of you on the stackoverflow beta? I love this website.

stackoverflow.com? I've been hearing about it for a while, but didn't know they were in beta yet. It looks nifty enough so far, I'ma look more into it tomorrow.
