For some reason, everytime I play FFXI I can only stay logged on for around 10-15 minutes. After that, my router decides to reboot and kick me offline. It happens while I play the PC version *and* the 360 version. But, when I'm just browing the internet I have absolutely no problems.

Anyone got any ideas as to why this is?

this happened to me too a while back, i had to buy a new router unfortunately

i had those kind of problem before where internet went out every random minutes, i call verzion almost 15+ time (for 1 month stright) before someone actually came to my house and see whats going on, then later found out that there was a loose wired on the DSL box outside of the house, that guy tighten back on and everything working fine since.

You may wanna check if it isolated problem or is a internet wiring thing, try to get online at the moment you got kick off the FFXI.

Call your ISP, have someone come over and see any problem.

Unplug your router for 20 seconds, that doesn't work, do it for 2 minutes. That doesn't work, hold the reset button on the back in for 2 minutes.

If all else fails, try a direct connect to the wall. If that doesn't work, it's FFXI.

I've had plenty of router problems to know procedure.

im fairly certain its the router. if elph and i play at the same time after a few hours the game will boot us. we have to shutdown both viewers and reset the router. then we're good for another few. do you find yourself unable to do searches before it happens? that how we know its time to reset.

Trying BTing and see if you can simulate the problem?

Usually, this happens because of the built in firewall protection in your router to block too many packets from the same source. It doesn't happen while browsing because you're not requesting so many packets in a short time.

Also, I would check to see if your IP on the router keeps changing. Set to 'Static IP'. If so, that might be causing it, though if it doesn't boot you off a web browser, I highly doubt it. FFXI is just pissing your router off.

It did happen right after we installed Vista on my fiance's laptop. I still have XP because microsoft is a bunch of cock suckers.

I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it?

I have the same problem at my place with DSL. I've got my DSL modem hooked up to a wireless router, so my laptop and desktop have signals all the time. I've got a hardwire from the router going to my XBOX 360, and I've got no problems until I turn on the 360. I can usually log onto the server alright, but after 5 minutes i'll get the red dot and DC. So in order to play, I generally have to unplug the router all together, which is a huge pain when I'm in sky because I get lost easy and I can't pull up any handy maps or guides...

*EDIT* Actually, this may be a good place to ask... If I bought a router that didn't put out a wireless signal, and just hard wired my 360 and laptop, would I have a more stable connection since the signal wouldn't be distributed through a wireless signal?

How would you correct this? I am having similar problem and this may be it. Only kick me from game and not from ventrilo or web. Keep getting error ffxi-4002 or pol-0512.

The problem is with FFXI.

Here is how to fix it. Go to: Start > Settings > Control Panel. Find Add/Remove Programs. Find FFXI/POL and hit uninstall.

I'm glad I could be of help.

lol, great advice

Your internet is probably always briefly disconnecting every 10-15 minutes, but when you're browsing the internet it's not a big deal and you're reconnecting almost instantly. FFXI is overly sensitive about it's internet connection; if it's gone for even a second it loves to just shut down completely. I used to have that problem until I got a new router.
