just wondering is there anyone who knows about a program or somthing i can get to boost the resolution for ffxi past 1024x768 ive heard it can be done...

From this RPG Expert tip.

Fustrated that the game wont let you set background textures past 1024 x 1024? Follow the instructions below to set it even higher! The game looks amazing running background resolutions of 2048 x 2048!!

Step 1:go to your Run command and type REGEDIT and click OK.

Step 2: Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then click on Software.

Step 3: Click PlayOnlineUS and Square Enix folder, then the FinalFantasyXI tab.

Step 4: You should see 2 "strings", 003 and 004. Double click to open them, and change the value on 003 to 500, then change 004 to 500. You will notice the values to the right after you click OK will change to the corresponding resolution.

2048 x 2048 = 800 and 800
1600 x 1600 = 640 and 640
1280 x 1280 = 500 and 500

Wow, 2048 by 2048? I can't wait for the Maintenance to be over now. I really want to try this lol

Hmm, how good do your think your video card has to be to handle this? I got a really nice one, but I just want to make sure. It's a radeon 9800 pro.

You'll see no noticeable difference if you set your texture resolution (overlay resoluton) way over your real background resolution. For example, if you're running at 1600x1200 background resolution, set your texture resolution to to 1600x1600. Anything above 1600x1600 is just extra work for your graphics processor.

I myself have a Radeon 9800Pro. When I tired 2048x2048, I experienced a slight slowdown in framerate. However, there was no noticeable improvement in video quality over 1600x1600.
