I'm coputer retarded so I know none of this but I was told to find out the "FFXI Server's IP address" so that I could run my Frontier through a different router port.. right now I am on a 4-5 second delay cause mmy room mate is downloading Windows service pack.. this is BS >.< As a rdm? fine.. a melee? who cares.. not as whm >.<

If anyone could help me out with this I'd greatly appreciate it :/

This is encrypted so no private server's exist.

You got bullshitted.

Wohoo... basically screwed every time she downloads something... <3 the internet.

If you have a linksys router, you can access your router by typing in the router's IP address through internet explorer or mozilla or w.e. But linksys will let you choose to give one computer more bandwidth than the other, but thats just my router, i dunno if all do that

That's what I have! how do I get my router's IP? I'll take 90% she can have10 <.<

Get on AIM and join a chat room. Right click, go to the "Insert" menu, and click on "IP Address" and it'll paste your router's IP into the chat send window. Don't have to send it but that's a pretty neat way of getting a router IP.

Also most router's have the IP addresses of

192.168.0.1-15

1-15 = 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2, 192.168.0.3, etc

Oh.. can't I obtain that through Run-> cmd -> ipconfig /all ?

Yes. As an aside, you might want to try port forwarding so that the specific ports that POL/FFXI use all get handled by your computer. Might help a bit. From POL:

+ Port numbers that may be used by the PlayOnline server group:
-TCP 25, 80, 110, 443 or 50000 - 65535
-UDP 50000 - 65535

Be careful though, a lot of those TCP ports are used frequently in everyday functions... 25 is for sending email SMTP style, 53 is used for DNS stuff, 80 for HTTP stuff, 110 for receiving email, and 443 for SSL web browsing. You probably shouldn't forward those. Knock yourself out on the wide ranges, though that might interfere with some of your roomie's stuff too... <_<

Can always use port triggering instead of port forwarding, that way it won't interfere with the other person's stuff

She uses her PC like 3 times a week.. but it seems to ALWAYS be when I am exping Whm.. and I am sure you know a 4-5 second delay is absolutely disasterous against Spiders especially :/

Thank you all for replies.. I don't understand most of it but I will try to use what you've told me ^^/

Linksys's standard IP address for their routers is 192.168.1.1

Do you have the model numebr for your router handy?

I could definitely get it when my room mate wakes up

Yeah, most of those routers have an admin screen. You just go into the admin tools and do it all from there, within your browser window. You'll just need to know the password, if one was actually set.

While playing FFXI..

Go to Start then Run and type in CMD and hit enter. In the command prompt that opens next, type in netstat -b . This will bring up a list of IPs and the executables that they are associated to.

If that doesnt work, another option is to run netstat -a with the game turned off, copy the contents to notepad, run the game, then run the netstat -a command again and compare the differences.

Ive never tried to find the IPs of their servers, but I can almost guarentee you will be getting the IP of their firewall/router. Each ffxi "server" is a cluster of servers that transfers the appropriate data between themself so locking down a single "server" IP is not possible.

Most of this knowledge is based upon my job and how some of our systems at work operate, I actually have no idea how the ffxi servers are running in reality, but there is a common likeness in most server environments for handling mass amounts of users.

[Edit: blazn, stop posting about the JPs in a router thread, thanks! -Sculli]

For almost all Linksys routers: http://192.168.1.1 is the admin screen.

1) Login with default username 'admin' and password 'admin' (no quotes).

2) Look for a tab labeled "Applications & Gaming" then "QoS". On the QoS page, you should (unless you have a very old router) see a section labeled "Port-based QoS". Select "Enable".

3) At this point, you'll want to check and see which LAN port on the router your computer uses and which your roommate's is using.

4) If you are connected to LAN port 1, and your roomie is connected to LAN port 2, set "Priority" on port 1 to high. Then set "Priority" on port 2 to low, as well as turning the "Ingress Rate Limit" as low as you would like, ie: 128K is the lowest.

What the settings I've suggested here will do is prioritize all incoming and outgoing traffic to the computer that is connected to LAN port 1 on the router, and allow a computer connected to LAN port 2 to not use more than 128K of bandwidth unless your computer is idle. Let me know if this works out for you, or if you have a different model of router and these settings don't apply, let me know the model and I'll try to revise these instructions for you.

Sometimes the username might be linksys, and if you still cant access it, hold the reset button on the router for 10 sec. and it will restart the router's config, therefore changing the admin and password to default (ID linksys, pass admin, or ID admin, pass admin)
