I had to downgrade (hopefully it's only temporary) my internet connection so I could play. I used to play on cable, now I'm trying to play on the phone connection.

The thing is, my parents have had AOL for ages now, and so I'm going to use their account to log in through my PS2.

I called up AOL, and I told them that I wanted that stupid bulk "Gaming" package (which costs $4.95 a month), and they told me they didn't support it anymore, and that I'd have to call PS2.

So I called PS2 and they told me to call Playonline.

I call Playonline, they tell me to call PS2.

So the second time I call PS2, they helped me set up my account so that it connects through to AOL. I put in my User ID (the Screen Name) and the ID password, and an AOL access number, and it doesn't let me go through. Sony tells me to call AOL, and so I call AOL, and they tell me it's a problem with my phone company.

Then I call my phone company and they tell me its not their problem.

All I want to do is to be able to go online using my AOL account. :-\ Can anyone help?

I used to play through AOL, and I never had to call AOL for a "gaming package."
Try getting a different access number if you can.

I also use to play on aol dial up on my ps2 and never signed up for the gameing package. Do like Lyrai said get a diffrenct access number and that should work. If i remember correctly the PS2 brings up a list of the diffrent access numbers in your area by the area code you enter.

Ive tried that. It won't even let me connect through AOL. It doesn't even get to the point where it asks for my SN.

It connects to dial to get numbers in my area code and then that's it.

Definitely check your phone line then. How's the weather in your area? Sometimes bad weather will make the phone line staticy, and prevent you from connecting using dial-up. Plug a phone in to the line you're using for the PS2 and check the condition of the line. It might even be a good idea to try making an outbound call with it, say to your cell phone or something just to make sure that calls will go through.

I just remembered i had this same problem when I steing up my game for the first time. I bet this is what you are doing wrong. You must set up the ps2 to dial your area code before the number. I was haveing the same problem you describe I messed with the setting and set up to make sure the PS2 dials my area code first than the number and it worked.

hmm

Call our phone company and have them check for noise in the line. The university I work for has a dial-up service and I'm one of the poor people who have to support the PoS(at least I dont use). Anyway, small amounts of static that you cant hear can screw up dial-up authentication. The phone company can fix this for you.
