If you haven't already, I would check over at www.windower.net. They would would seemingly be the best resource.

its ok :-)
Actually the website you say got a couple of info you can use in linux.
Sdäv :-)

ffxi is horribly coded, and as such I doubt it'd be anywhere easy to get it running on a unix system =/

Best I've seen is someone who got PoL to run under wine I think, but the actual game wouldn't start.

Then again it was ported from ps2 to windows, so making a unix port wouldn't be impossible for SE, but I don't see them ever doing it.

I would suggest though is to run a virtualized windows XP in your unix system for compatibility for windows-only things.

Well, I think somewhere windower has directX hooks to point to the necessary libraries... but that may just be bullshit. I've not looked much at the full functionality with windower.

Hello again.. I recall your question before and it appears you haven't had any luck. I too am interested in this, but haven't found a way to do it. I know I mentioned CorssoverOffice before, did you try that out? I have an older version, so am not optimistic in its odds for success. :(

I'd ask someone over in the windower forums. If you have any luck with this, please let us know. If I can get my games working in Linux then I will definately switch. I'm going to try out Ubuntu soon. =)

Welll, sorry for didnt reply fast but had a problem with my ISP and was offline 2 days.
I was trying hard on this before post, so i will make a massive replying :-)

1) WineHQ with new super DVD.
I had already read that, actually only works with the new DVD, i got the original CDs distrib, anyway, i tried making the register entries manually and copying the game from my already installed win HD.
It suposes to work in linux, you only need to remember to declare every service and aparently is well documnenteed in the link that Stug sent.
But, the problem is that some of the wine features are not full ported to FreeBSD -.- so im stuck again.
BTW, if you try this, check the tutorial for POL installing before the one for FFXI, there is one for each soft, pol, ffxi, expansions.
2)Cedega is propietary code, doesnt have any guarantee that FFXI will work before you pay it and its just for linux -.- (they make so great code that is not portable between unix-like systems, even with FBSD linux emulation).
3) I knew someone who used to run FFXI in wine before the new DVD was on, but hi had to intall native DirectX and tune some things up (and hi left the game and i lost all contact with him, but the good thing is "It can be done(at least in linux)"
4)wine...office version, I never tried it. I will see what i can found around.
5)Virtual Machine running XP, I already though about it. But didnt found a VM who can actually foward graphic stuff to the real graphic card. Tried to do this with the beta version of VMware (who implements this new feature) trying to run FFXI in Win xp in VMware in Win XP (if i can make this work i move the VM to unix) but until now i just get "VMware Core Dump" when i run the game, so...
I tried to install VMware in BSd anyway... and it uses some special modules from kernel and cant be installed in BSD (at least not without programming a little around and wrapping it).

I will love to make this work in BSD, im real tired, 3 year restarting the system to play -.- and i got to stop all my webservices, mailfetcher, webserver, ssh....
Just to play -.-

If someone is able to try the online tutorial in wineHQ and works, please tell me and i will install a good linux emulator to run a wine on it -.-
I hate the emulation of emulation of emulation of .... (pol is a VM too)

Well, i hope we can find a way. If i some info i will be posting here.
