FFXI "What If" thread

Gee, what if the game was like all other staple MMO's, with boring, repetitive shit and an equally fucking ignorant player base that neither talks with each other nor collaborates intricate strategic ideas to fell down the high level things in the game that everyone anticipates with such high regard? What if?

Man I truly fucking wonder sometimes what this game would be like if it were an exact replica of WoW or Vanguard. Boy that would be fun.

Well, G5 was supposed to be the test of how well you can use your job's abilities one-on-one, but of course SE fucked up and made it too hard to use plain skill to succeed and it wound up being "can you use the well-known strat to break the old man's hip before he Asuran Fists you to death?".

And the GA skill thing really isn't a fair question considering GA is fairly useless and overall frowned upon all the way up to level 75... and the way the game has developed now, even at 75 against Gods, oftentimes one-handed Axes are superior overall anyway.

Christmas came early this year, thanks Meeze, haven't laughed like that on something I've read in a long time.

Ruffy, are you trying to get destroyed every time you make a thread? It sure looks like you're succeeding.

GA will outparse Dual-wielding axes until 50 when /nin gets Dual-Wield 2. This is common knowledge. Don't blame a poor knowledge base of players for not knowing what is the most effective weapon to use.
I'd like you to show me one person with equally capped and equally merited axe and great axe that can do more damage with any one-hand WS than a 300tp SC...You can MS a Rampage and won't get the damage of a NON-MS SATA SC. Warrior's Charge was meant to increase SC's damage even more AND it can place hate onto a Tank. Check out the KI E-peen SS's, you'll see countless pictures of SC against gods, wyrms, w/e...and then someone will throw in their one 18tp return Rampage against a Puk and argue that the damage output from that rampage proves the strength of a one-handed weapon.
My highest weapon-skill ever on HNM wasn't with GA, it was actually with a sword...but I realize that if I want consistant damage or hate-placement damage in anything other than a melee-burn GA is more effective to the nth degree.

43 I believe when CC+2s come out.

48 is when axes are useful because of viking axes.
That being said in my experience quite frakly warriors arent allowed to use gaxes. The party leaders straight out tell you to wear axes on alot of occasions.

I generally ignore them but by the time any people actually do discover that GAXE is good they have almost 100 levels to skill it up minimum.

Not only that but all the people here who even know that Gaxe is good finished leveling WAR past lv 37 a long time ago. Let's face it. By the time you get to the person it's already to late to get em to use it.

I guess...? I wasnt the one to derail, lol. Im still trying to figure out what pathetic grudge youre holding against me

In a cannon-type party maybe. But this is pre-rampage, so you won't be doing big digit weapon-skills. Long delay between axe swings that lead up to using the sexiest ws ever -- Avalanche Axe -- for any chance of making distortion (I don't know if kids these days still try to make distortion for every party like we did in the good ole days).

Unless they're over 50 or they're going for a specific skill chain, then the leader's an idiot.

Great Axe is amazing from 1-37, I rarely even touched axes for those levels. I've seen people using dual axes at 20 though, because that's what they see the 75 war's doing; so it's more of a lack of even trying to find information on their part than a problem with the party setups.

CC+2 are 264 delay with 5 att on each one. Thats 528 delay-10% which gets you down to about 475ish. Also give 6 dex if you're Bastokan...I mean outside of your own area.

Thats pretty good compared to the Horror Voulge at 489 delay and the regular line of GAs that run 504 delay.

Yeah, but when youre partying or targeting someone other than yourself, it will just lock on. Sometimes running around isnt enough to stop a spell from being cast.

Wrong. You can type /heal while having a target selected.

You make a good point, the Great Axes of that level range don't really jump out at me. Horror Voulge has attack+8 as well, but low base damage. The CC+2 are the highest damage axe at that level range. BUT, its tough to say what the skill difference as well as overall party effectiveness will do because of single-handed axe's limited skillchain possibilities and lower damage weapon skills.

I guess I'm saying its a draw? But with that in mind, why wouldn't you keep the GA up to date by partying with it, when dual axes are much easier to skill...plus if you have both weapons available, no matter what skillchain setup they're looking for you'll be able to handle it.

Skill is the same at that level nooby. I kind of remember a parse about dual axes becoming viable at that level. I think I used GA till 48 because I had the level 46 axe waiting for me, and axes were already capped from RNG.

I am nooby, my bad. It's late, better give up now before I start seeing purple tents on characters...

anyway, that still takes longer than it would to just tap up on the control stick... Which still doesnt work. And if it did work that easily, you then have to spend 4 or 5 more seconds going through a sit-and-stand animation before you can cast a spell again.

If you have played wow, you may understand what I mean.

Yes, because I have to play WoW to understand the concept of pressing a button to stop an action.

FFXI isn't WoW. WoW isn't FFXI. Stop trying to make the two alike.
