FFXI widescreen

Anyone here play on a widescreen monitor? I just ordered a 2405FPW, curious if there's anything I need to do to get FFXI running at the proper res. www.widescreengamingforum.com says that FFXI supports widescreen natively.

Also, my video card is a bit old so I was hoping to run it at less than the 1920x1200 native res supported by the panel. Does that work? Will FFXI place a black border around the game window, or will it be stretched?

FFXI does indeed support widescreen. Displays using 4:3 15:9 15:10 16:9 and 16:10. You don't really need to change your resolution. Just change your Background Aspect Ratio in Config > Misc. 2

By the way, wide screen gives you a slight advantage camping NMs, as you actually have a wider visible range than those using 4:3.

I was running FFXI on a 2405 and it works just fine. IIRC the option (1920x1200) shows up as soon as the monitor is connected.

Every once in a while I will go DVI out from my PC to my HDTV and play widescreen.

All you have to do is set the overlay resoloution in the config to a widescreen size, for me its like 1127X690 or somthing silly like that, (to compensate for my TV's overscan.) Then in the in game config you need to set the aspect ratio to 16X9 and away you go.

Works like a charm.

Just change the res in FFXIConfig, no need to change aspect ratio after that. I think the aspect ratio thing is just there for TV output. When using an LCD you want to match the native resolution of your LCD for best looks.

You want to host em for me? they are quite glorious. However, at 1900x1200 they are quite large, and I am too lazy to set upi an image host.

I can also show you what 2048x1536 looks like, but it's better to see it as a whole, non-interpolated, on one screen. I gots me one of those neat sony monitors from when I use to do CAD. 2048x1536 @85Hz 16/8(AA/AF) FTW!?!?

To the OP, your best bet is to set your resolution manualy in the registry if you want stellar results, then go to your menu in game and set yoru aspect ratio to 16:10.

Backwards? Never seen anyone run AA higher than AF intentionally. Mind you I'm not a CAD man.
