FFXI Wikipedia Interview with FFXI Developers

The best part is how they say they'll have the dev team defeat Absolute Virtue at the next fan fest in November.

Seriously, that is something we can NOT miss. I really want to see them get owned by the very NM they keep saying is completely killable in its current state.

That's the stupidest shit I ever heard. Just because YOU can't figure it out doesn't make it impossible. Don't you think they have killed it several times before releasing it? Maybe your just not as smart as you think.

I've always known he was killable and said it several time before. The proper method has just never been used, not everything is omg zergable. Most of you "imposible to kill" people are just whiney bitches.

Good! crafting died long time ago, people waste millions to level a craft to 100 to make big HQ thats how it works right now and its just ain't right lol. especially once you get that many level 100crafters, all those high HQ, or high skill recipe become worthless.. They should do what they did with chocobo digging and fishing.. limit the number of craft you can do to like, say, 10 synthetisis per guild per RL day.

oh man, that'd suck so many balls lol

Someone pull out the screeenshot of AV doing a benediction for 46k after 30+ something hours of fighting please?

That was kind of my point ... except it would be so much more deliciously evil if they focused more on weakening TP burn party types, rather than strengthening traditional, balanced party types.

Still, you're right in that simply doing something to make actual skillchains more attractive could go long ways towards improving the imbalance. Myself, I really don't think the problem can completely be "fixed" without using a bit of BOTH the carrot and the stick. Too much stick, merees go "boo-hoo," and mass rebellion commences. Too much carrot, and we just have utterly ridiculous "new-world" parties, in which the experience rates reach into the bloody Cosmos. Everquest did this, and it cheapened everything leading up to that point.

I think the most fair way to do it would be to create a few camps in the new areas that cater exclusively to standard parties, enabling them to make roughly what a burn party makes in the ToAU camps. No more and no less. NIN, WAR, MNK, COR, and BRD can stay in ToAU; 2-handed DDs, PLD, RDM, BLM, SMN and WHM can move on to WoG areas. THF and RNG could go either way. Everyone can make good exp and no one is pissed at being "left out."

Maybe it will be some stupid secret like

At "so and so" point AV is extremely vulnerable to DRG's and PUP's for just a few moments.

I think you win the price for most retarded post ever.

Theres most likely a way to block AV's 2hr's, or to make him only use certain 2hr's.

Some things take strategy, thinking and testing, not "LES ALL TP AND HIT HRD PREZ," which is almost always everyones outlook on everything in this game

Yes, assuming there is a way to lock it, like, say, what I suggested in my AV thread where I've said for month he's not impossible to kill. Then no, he is not unbeatable.

However, the reason he is impossible to kill, is because, and I'll only say this once, no one have found a way to completely remove him of his ability to chainspell meteor, Aeroga IV, chainspell + manafont, bloodweapon + mighty strikes + hundred fist at the same time, and benediction whenever he feels like it like it was any normal 1 min cooldown ability, stacked with his AoE jumps that do 1500 damage + AoE stun to everyone, including people not currently in the alliance. And let's not forget his Wynavs that simultaneously Thundaga III your entire alliance, mijin gakure your entire alliance, and soul voice + charm people in your party.

So yes, untill someone have found a way to lock him, which, btw, no one have done for over 2 years, then yes. He is impossible to kill.

And you do indeed win the most retarded post ever price, Tomasello. You're acting like I'm the only one across every server that can't figure it out. when, as a matter of fact, no linkshell on any server, JP NA and JP alike, can't fidn a way to kill him. Including your very own LS. So stop your "better than thou" attitude and get a clue before you make posts.

edit: speaking of which, you obviously quoted the wrong person Tomasello, considering I didn't once say he was impossible to kill in the post you quoted. So you should consider getting glasses too. Or at least stop arguing things I never even said.

but, eh, the people that created/update him are going to fight him. Maybe improbable for regular users to kill, but most definitely not the creators. So, were either going to gave to get a recording of the fight and/or preparations for the fight, or theyre just going to have to tell us how the bitch can be killed

Rebalancing the party situation is going to be nearly impossible... unless SE does something truly drastic. I suppose they could create a whole new batch of IT++ to 75 mobs in the new areas, but while that would give new camps that burn parties would have a hard time with, unless they were 600+ XP base per kill it wouldn't be even remotely similar xp, and besides, with all the gear and merit enhancements the average melee burn party has to have made that play style as effective as it is, there's a very good chance that a burn setup would do better out there as well.

If SE really wanted to fix all burn type parties, mana and melee, there's a list of 3 things they could do.

First, for manaburn, change the elemental resistance of monsters to spike drastically after each spell, but diminish equally drastically. So for 3-4 seconds after the initial cast, spells would be almost worthless. Obviously, this move would pretty much rewrite a lot of endgame along with xp, and I don't think it's necessary in any case.

The two fixes for melee burn are both involving Utsusemi. Move Ni to 38, and half your problem is solved. Give Utsu shadows a chance of failing based on your evasion, and the other half is solved. Melee burn would be less practical due to a lot more healing requirements, NIN wouldn't be able to wear heavy DD gear and still tank effectively, and so on. And again, it would change an awful lot of how endgame is handled, and while it would solve some problems SE has been complaining about, I seriously doubt they'd go through with it.

As I've been on the wrong end of a nerf bat in the past, in other games, and playing as other job classes ... I definitely know that taking some sort of bitter pleasure at the utter destruction of TP melee burns is inappropriate, and petty.

Still, there is a part of me yet that could not possibly be happier than if the current "z0mgz 2 brdz 35k/hr ONRY" state of affairs was

NERFED

INTO

OBLIVION.

I mean, I wouldn't just be happy. I'd be trembling with sheer friggin' giddy GLEE. I'd stand on the ramparts of Whitegate just to watch the million-and-one warriors, ninjas, and (insert generic DD here) standing listless, unused, and staring vacantly into a dull, difficult landscape. "Welcome to my world," I'd think ... chuckling with childish, shallow mirth.

Sorry guys -- just being honest. It's my problem, not yours, I know. I say that not coming from the point of view that the partying viability of most jobs doesn't need to be balanced ... oh no, it definitely does ... I'm just saying it doesn't necessarily have to come exclusively in the form of a nerf.

That evil part of me would still love one, though.

Look up a German concept called "freudenshade." It's fairly interesting.

I couldn't have said it any better myself

Or (This would make a lot of people butthurt and/or irritated just because I say it) Make Double Attack a lv 38+ ability. Or, if thats TOO MUCH, make Double Attack only activate on main hand.

A much simpler solution to everyone going /nin is to make beserk/focus/ wrk similar to hasso/seigan. if the utsu timers got drasically increased while zerk/focus is up it would limit war/nin, mnk/nin, and nin/war since the shadows would not be nearly as easy to maintain.
Then at that point the only way to have timers fast enough is through the use of a decent amount of haste gear.

Because if they can manage to kill it, then we'll know the secret to killing him. If they get owned by him, then they can finally admit that they made him too hard to kill, and will nerf him so that he's killable.

Hence, we're in a win/win situation.

Yeah, Im just saying... Theyre constantly testing the game, new things, old things, finding things that are messed up and etc... They probably already know hes very hard, but I have no doubt whatsoever that he can be killed. In fact, it will probably end up being a rather short fight compared to what many players experience.
