FFXI, windower and its plugins

If people can't manage their gear swaps in the first place, they generally aren't going to take the time to figure out how to set up an XML file that fully specifies exactly when and when not to equip what. Or if they do, chances are that they won't get it right, it'll be equipping the things they don't want, and they'll get frustrated and throw it out rather than figuring it out.

I'd love to mess with some of windower's plugins, I wouldn't know where to begin though. I can use a computer for what I need and nothing more :(.

Face it, most new players probably don't even know how to utilize windower plugins.

This is pretty much true. I had to go through a few 'trial and errors' while getting the hang of the spellcast plugin and switching between sets and whatnot. A lot of people will either not have the patience, or will just never understand in the first place

Glad I had the windower 3.3.. Having all parser messages aren't so great.. What 2 years after saying SE was gonna release a windowed mode they do and it does absolutely shit for us... Shit if it wasn't for 3rd party tools I couldn't have flamed TBH leaders for booting my ass over something stupid.. Get it.. keep it.. cherish it for that time you may need it... NO HAXORZ

I just cant believe SE hasn't been doing anything about Windowers... Aren't they 3rd party programs? I've never used them, so I have no clue how it works, but bsaed I've read and seen so far, some of the windowers are really cheating. I saw a youtube video, and I noticed this guy could cast and walk without getting interrupted.....I may have to start using them if SE is still not going to do anything!

Where do you find these windowers anyway? Thanks

Sometimes Windower can be cheating but it all depends on how you use it. I use it cause it's better then SE's Windower, I can see party members tp and Mp. Distance Plug in helps with knowing ranges.

A lot of it is to just make our FFXI life easier. There will always be people who abuse a good thing and ruin it for the rest of us.

That's not a windower plugin, that's actually a hack. They're no where near the same thing.

Definitely on point with that one dude..

Tried out unofficial windower again today. Its 3.3 and acting a bit weird. It gets through POL and into the game, but as soon as the windows switch (from POL to the game window) theres a "PlayOnline Viewer has encountered a problem and needs to close." But I can still play the game. This didnt happen 3 months ago before I took a breather.

poop

edit: grr, I cant see my menu's. OR text when I type. I r screwed, back to official

Did you remember to disable SE's windower first?

also, do you have anything like WindowBlinds running that changes how your desktop looks? sometimes that messes with FFXI menus under Windower

nah, none of that jazz. Just forgot that I had to change from windowed mode to full screen in the POL FFXI settings

While I am personally starting to wonder about the blurred line of cheats. I still hold the following line solidly drawn between me and cheats:

If its something I can do within the scope of my abilities, but have a button that woudl do it just as well, then it's not a cheat. If it's something that does an action outside the scope of gameplay and gives an unfair advantage, it's a cheat.

Can I organize my inventory on my own?
Should I be penalized for not doing so?
Is it ok to autosort my inventory?
Does auto sorting give me an unfair advantage to anyone who does not?

No.

= Light Luggage ok.

Is it unfair to be able to lot or pass on items in the treasure pool while dead?

Yes

=Autopass/Lot feature on LL is a cheat.

Is it ok to move at 200% speed on demand at any time I wish?

No.

= Flee Hacking bad.

Can I make 5 macros to accomplish what 1 windower macro can accomplish?
Can I hit 5 macros for gear then open the menu to use the spell I geared for?

Yes and Yes.

= Windower macros and spellcast = No cheat.

Can I cancell shadows and buffs willingly?

yes

= Cancel is ok.

Etc....

There's stuff that obvoiusly gives you an advantage, and the arguement really blurrs when you talk about the cumulative mass of pluggins being used in cinjunction of one another. I.E. is any one pluggin a cheat? Or is the total collective of them "automating" the game a cheat? Does dumbing down Utsusemi really make players worse? Or does it remove in a tedious rediculous process that should have never been in the game in the first place?

If you want to argue swapping in the right gear manually is what the game is about then I will tellyou to sit in your Moghouse and just change gear all day. I personally think the game is supposed to eb played and the game should be about strategies, and what spell you cast and what action you take on the mob, and how you do quests and missions; not how good you are at swapping in gear...

Is using a script or a code to perform an action automaticly for you ok?

No, that is cheating, and that's what cancel plugin does. It's the same as a fishbot in theory. instead of doing /fish, etc, it enters the command to cancel certain things as shadows.

Also using window macros isn't cheating, you still have to perform the action. See there's macros in the game, and this makes macros simpler, but there is no command to "automaticly" cancel things, you must do it yourself.

Again, like I said, It gets a little fuzzy. Fishbotting is different, because from what i understand the program can "see" what fish you have and which "direction" the fight is going to go before you can. You're right, that is a cheat. Under my current deffinition, it is giving you an unfair advantage in game by allowing you to do something you can't do inside the game.

I think you are confused on what cancel does. It doesn't "automatically" cancel buffs; you still have to make it happen.

How Cancel works:

Pop cancel.dll into your pluggins folder.
Load the game.
Load cancel.

Now you have access to calls the game uses to cancel buffs via command line. And can introduce those buffs into your macros.

Typical macro:

Code:
exec THF/nin/equip/utsu.txt;
pause 0.1;
input /ma "Utsusemi: Ichi";
pause 2.5;
cancel 66;
pause 1.6;
home;

Where "home" is an alias for specific gear sets.

The only thing it has done is remove the +, +, Right arrow, enter, from the game. Using cancel is about as much cheating as "++RE" is... There's no unfair advantage given, there's no automation per se, just issuing a command via macros much like one issues a command to swap in gear and weaponskill.

You've definitely automated something that you, the player, would otherwise have to do on your own. Not only that, but you've automated it with perfect, inhuman, mechanical timing.

Cancel is definitely on the level of fishbots, only instead of automating a complex action for you, it automates a relatively simple one. I don't care for windower macros, but even they are less cheating than this is.

I still don't get the justification that "Oh, it's unencrypted, so it's okay for me to look at it, despite whether Square-Enix is showing me!" It's sort of like "Oh, this guy's door was unlocked, I'm just going to walk on in!" Especially distance. I'm both amazed and depressed at the amount people will both defend and justify their cheats, and the fact that they came bundled with windower probably was to blame.

I agree, but regardless... I am still guilty of using TParty and Distance... Besides these, my favorite plugin (and most harmless depending on usage) is timestamp. If Im afk and miss a /t, its really useful to see when I received it, or when a /sh was sent, or anything similar.

Its also useful for ToD's I suppose, but Ive never used it for this. Imo, Timestamp should be something included anyway, along with the Vanadiel Time being displayed while engaged

edit: Still getting POL crash error with SE windowed mode disabled :(

What is your configuration? OS, Computer etc.
And when did you download the latest version of windower?

Some of the pluggins may be old and broken.

WinXP, SP2

I downloaded this Windower on September, 5th, 2007. It worked fine before I went on my break, so Im just assuming SE updated some stuff and the coding in something is out of date. Im playing the game fine atm with the little error box pushed all the way into the bottom right hand corner, lol

I wouldnt' really call issuing a command "automation". Yes, it does reduce the effort needed that could be done through a sequence of events (++RE) but it's not running that sequence either. It is just like typing "/ws Eviceration <t>" into your command line.

If you can't differentiate the difference between an automated fishbot that reads incoming data and autoninously interacts with the game and a issues multiple commands to aquire preprogrammed desired results with no intervention from the user, and a command, then you probably wont be worth continuing this conversation with.

It's like those retards that were saying Parsing was hacking even though parsers don't even touch the game except to read, and anything the parser was doing could be done with a calculator and a notepad by just reading the log files...

But hey, if you want to call me a cheater, that's fine too. I really don't give two shits to be honest; your moral/ethical standing is just more rigid than mine I guess. If you consider the game to be "How Well" you manipulate the interface, rather than how you deal with situations, then so be it. To me, the game is about content, not the controller I use...

Yeah your Windower is bugged from the November update.
Well... more accurately, Recast and another pluggin is.
Go to windower and download the latest version, I think the pluggins that are included are updated (not sure though I remember seeing some arguments in IRC about them not updating the pack). So you may need to download: Light Luggage, Recast, Distance, etc... Plugins and just replace them in your Pluggins folder
