I don't know whether to cry, or to save up my cash for the console.

On the one hand, new graphics (and the potential for live chat I bet) would be nice.

On the other hand, can you imagine the horror Valkurm Dunes would become if the dredges of the Xbox demographic gets into FFXI?

I'm not a fan of XBOX...so nothing for me to worry about. The more players the merrier.

in one of the posted panel interviews SE has already confirmed that there will be no live chat support for FFXI. anyways who would want to hear the real voise of all those manthra out there >.< just wouldnt seem right

Bull. Remember the wails and moans of all the 'PS2bies' ruining the game?

...yeah, that happened. A lot of them became some of the more respected and liked players on this server. New players can only be good for the game.

(P.S. - I was one of those PS2bies. And I turned out allllllllll right.)

Believe it or not before PS2 release qufim and yhoat jungle were quite pleasent places to lvl (valkurm was still bad). Qufim wasn't too bad then, and yhoat was a dream. PS2 releases and they have never recovered. :( I don't really feel more players on our server would benefit much. More overcamped exp spots, overcamped nms, etc.

On that topic, a new release = new migration. New migration = all the jerks who have ruined their rep here migrate to get a fresh start = fewer jerks here.

One can hope.

I also think "Oh, such and such a place was better before" is flawed thinking. When I took my WHM through the Dunes, Qufim, the Jungles, etc I didn't mind oddball setups. I didn't mind getting 70XP for a Tough. I just enjoyed partying and playing with other people and learning my job.

Now, we're all well-oiled machines. We demand 4k+/hr from our parties or we scoff and disband. When you didn't have a job over 35, it was a simpler game, I think.

I lvled 2 jobs through there before and 2 after the ps2 release and it felt like day and night to me. You would really have to have experienced it prior to judge it properly. We weren't machines, but the players acted more mature and focused. Luckily I don't need to lvl anything more through there, so won't matter too much if xbox release does make it worse.

Although I do have the same concerns as Rones in reguards to the already over camped NMs and crowded XP zones... I still believe many good things will come of it.

One of these good things, of course, is new content. There are just too many "blocked" zones not to add anymore, such as the caves in Mis[tab] Coast that have rocks in them. New jobs and such won't be a reality, and if they are, I'll pee myself. But I can absolutley see some new XP places being added.

At any rate, the NMs are overcamped, sure, not much we can do about that with "them" around, but as far as XP zones being crowded? I just blame that on lazy people. My LS and I led an XP party up to Beacedine Glacier near the zone to level off of goblins and tigers. Beat the pants off of Garliage and the Crawlers Nest. Why dont' people go to these zones? Rangumont Pass too much of a pain to get through? Hell, post level 50 you need silent oils and prism powders just to get to mediocre camps.... I'm ranting again, aren't I?

Maybe it'll push people out to explore these other regions in search of fun. Maybe it'll just piss off the level grinders... "These n00bs are camping on top of us!" Seems SE keeps adding zones with great camping prospects (Carpenters Landing) but no one chooses to use them. I think the point I'm trying to make is... the world is big enough to support more players.

At least, thats my opinion... :)

I wonder if they will also put out a new release for the PS3.

I dunno if they will. After all didn't sony basically stop supporting any new sales of the game when they re-released the PS2 without specific parts needed for it? If i was square I wouldn't bother redev'ing for the ps3 if it was only going to get burned like that.

Rones has a point. Yhutunga/Yhotoar were just so nice until ps2 generation but a lot of that was that it was pretty much a JP only place, with the occasional guy who had gotten his keys. It wasn't just the ps2'ers it was also the lazy PC'ers who didnt get their keys until really late that have destroyed the jungle.

As for quifm... lol quifm has always been bad.

I'd feel bad for anyone new coming in though. What with the economy's status and all. Imagine trying to start with no knowledge of the game or how to make money like 1 year ago, only now. With the current prices.

Sorry Cubs, just going to have to live with it, It's not that -the- Ps2ers ruined everything per say, it's that they added a ton more people. Rones is right somewhat, dunes was fine Rones, at least when I started. (Original NA Release) Nothing it is today, in fact right after ps2 release I remember gawking along side my ls about how many people where in dunes, these days no one gawks and they just go "Yeah, that's dunes so what?"

Qufim always sucked, it was hard to get pts there.

But omg Kazham was heaven, no gob trains, or 10 pt's , and of course this changed after PS2 release because we can all clearly see how Kazham is now. Now, at least Ps2 plays include rpg and final fantasy players, most of the xbox guys are first person shooter dudes, and there are next to no rpg's on xbox. Also, I've played quite a few games online, let's just say their online-with-other plays manners are not so good, I can't remember a game where I havn't been cussed out, or when playing a sport game have someone leave before the game ended because they were losing. Which is fine, I expect that, but that won't be so fine if it's carried over here...

Bad move overall in my opinion, SE, but we'll just have to see. And no Cubs, most jerks don't care lol. I bet Vang and Wolfy will remain, for example, and either way new people comeing in = the future super jerks. At least the new guys coming in have a good background for being an ass.

Don’t get me wrong we still have idiots in the game, but a large number of the people who gave us PS2ers a bad name have left the game. You don’t see near the annoying shouting or people begging for gil as you did before. Even in the low area places (1-10) you don’t see people calling for help every 5 minutes like you did shortly after the PS2 Release.

After playing Halo 2 and seeing what I would call a good chunk of the Xbox Player base as well as watching my little brother play FFXI, they will come and then leave the game because it’s just too hard for them. The 10 to 15 year old gene just doesn’t like the have to party system or anything they have to work hard at. They just want to be able to pick up the controller and be masters of the universe. Even in Halo, you see very little team playing, the majority of them just run around doing there own thing regardless of what is going on.

I foresee us having similar problems as we did before as there is an in-rush of new players, but that will eventually subside. I think this is more of an attempt on Microsoft part to get the older gamers to cross over the Xbox, which is a player base they have been lacking. It is the 25-35 gene that spends the most money on there gaming entertainment and that has keep Sony on top. Me personally I will only consider moving over if I can bring my current character over to the Xbox. If I can’t do that, I will stay with the PS2 (Hopefully PS3!)

The JP Players had all these same complains when the US PC Player based joined the game, as well when we PS2ers join the game. It will be the same cycle we saw before. All the market prices will fall again, we will have all kinds of idiots running around, but it will eventually balance back out.

I personally am excited to be able to play on the 360.
I dont play the pc version much due to the fact that I get waaaaaay too uncomfortable after a few hours in an office chair, so I find myself on the PS2 version more time than not. However, any PS2 player will tell you how pitifull the graphics and default unchangeable resolution are.

Now, enter the 360 ......... Finally I can have my cake and eat it too.
I will be so glued to any future news on this. I cant wait to see some screenies..............................

If your TV supports it, switch to component video cables. It helps some with the washed out look and greatly improves the clarity of the text, but still isn’t as nice as the PC. The HD support of 360 will be very nice!

Aye, no doubt this is good news for people like asiamise and such, I am only worried about the xp player base that Pascal seems to have seen, and I agree man 90% of the type of online player base will be seen on Halo 2.... Here's hoping that they'll consider FFXI a pile of crap because it doesn't have guns and giga breasts or splines, eyes, and blood everywhere.

Def. a better alt to Ps2 anyways.

But then I went back to my Sony 53" projection because Im spoiled!!!
(that and my husband uses the RGB for his xbox)
Im so hooked on 53" of FFXI, its hard to go back to anything smaller lol. :D
