w00t. I just recieved my original nes FF1 game in the mail today from ebay, got some crappy looking old ass nes to work, I plan on finishing ff1 this time around (when i was 10 I quit at the last boss for no apparent reason)... anyone else still have it?

I heard from my friend that FF1, 2, 3 or one of those early ones was comming out for gameboy advanced... Haven't heard any news lately though
I want another RPG to play besides Golden Sun

There's going to be a game called Final Fantasy 1&2 Advance for GBA. The game is just what the title implies. Although people complain about the load times in the games and stuff, I see myself more getting the PSone versions of the old Final Fantasy games.

Also, shouldn't this thread belong in the Final Fantasy Series forum?

Yes I still have FF 1. I remember that I got so mad when I found out that I would have to go into the past and kills the "Elementals" all over again. I erased my game and then 2 seconds later I was kicking my own ass for doing that.

I too bought FF1 NES. I bought it from Funcoland or whatever they call it now (it was Funcoland then). Lo and behold, the battery lasted all of a month. Ah well. At least the game looks nice in my collection. Rest in peace, Master, Black Wizard, Black Wizard and Black Wizard. Yay for FF Origins. No batteries there.

When I went to play my copy of Final Fantasy and my savegame didn't load, I was a bit upset. I tried Dragon Warrior, same results. Taking an educated guess that my problems were caused by dead batteries, I decided to do what could be done--replace it. So here are the steps I took.

- Remove the screws from the NES cartridge using a special security bit like I have. You can easily buy them on Ebay if your hardware store doesn't carry this part.

[II]- Once the cartridge is open, remove the circuit board and turn it over. You should see the battery being held in place by a firm clamp of some sort. Take a flathead screw-driver and pry the battery out, you do not want to destroy the holder. The reason it is hard to remove the battery is because Nintendo actually put holes in the battery itself. Weird.

[III]- Go to your local electronics store (I used Radio Shack) and ask for a Lithium 3 Volt Battery, numbers DL2032 and ECR2032 work. I bought mine at Radio Shack for like $4.

[IV]- Place the battery in the holder and your cart is ready to go. I took a piece of electrical tape and placed it over the battery/holder to keep the battery in place.

[V]- Put your NES cart back together. Start up a new game, save, then turn your NES off for a bit. If your replaced the battery correctly, the game will save your data like it should.

Actuly I have the GBA one..group is a Knight, Ninja, Red Wizard, White Wizard..we rock :D

You can replace the batteries pretty easily. Most of the old NES games used standard watch batteries. I had the same problem when the original Zelda came out, my saves would mysteriously delete themselves....took the case apart, swapped out the batteries....haven't had any problems in almost 20 years.
