Final Fantasy 13 Hype Thread?

Is this coming out for the PC as well?

I highly doubt it. It'd probably have really high system specs and there is a chance it'd get severely pirated if it does come out on PC, and if SE use DRM, people will just call BS and not buy it anyway.

While it might have "really high" system specs, it's nothing that someone asking if it were to be released on PC likely wouldn't already meet or beat. Prince of Persia ran flawlessly on my machine in 1650x1080 with everything turned up to max, except Anti-Aliasing, because Anti-Aliasing over x4 made the game look like utter shit for some reason. Core 2 Duo 3.16Ghz, 3.whatever GB of RAM(still rocking 32-bit OS, though using 4 GB dual channel,) and a Radeon HD4870. Sort of Middle of the Road overall by todays standards. Fallout 3 runs amazingly on these specs with everything up, aside from your standard Bethesda coding problems(periodic slow down for no reason gg,) though I play 1440x900 windowed, like I do with all my games. PoP was an exception since it has no windowed mode.

If you haven't updated your PC since FFXI came out, then yeah, you might have an issue.

Edit: I wouldn't be suprised if FF13 ended up not requiring that much processing power. It'd certainly need a hefty videocard and a Processor to not bottleneck it, but the lack of physics would really take emphasis off it.

Earlier today, Square-Enix revealed in a press release that they would be delaying Dragon Quest IX's Japanese launch from March 28th to July 11th. Apparently they're having trouble tackling a lot of bugs during development stating that "It's not in a state we can deliver to players".

Yoichi Wada has come out with a statement saying that the delays in the debugging process of Dragon Quest, may affect the 2009 Japanese launch of Final Fantasy XIII. He said that they may instead be aiming for a fiscal year 2009 release which could be anytime up until April 2010.

*Bangs head on desk*

So is the entire FFXIII debug team now working on DQIX with the development of FFXIII grinding to a halt?! It doesn't make any sense that DQIX's delay would cause a delay for FFXIII unless they were...

Oh god please don't say that July was when they were releasing FFXIII only to delay it now!!!

Sucks if they would delay it, but they wouldn't want to release both so close to each other as to maximize profits on both.
Originally they were going to release in separate fiscal years.

More news. This time the dev team have said that FFXIII uses nearly 100% of PS3's power.

For those who are interseted, here are some translations of the specific questions that the interviewer asked:

Interviewer: How much of the PS3's powers do you think the game will utilize at the end?

Kitase: I think around 50% for the demo version. For the final product (just before it's released), I think it will use around 100% of its powers. It is the same situation with FFVII and FFX where we fully utilized the powers of the PS1 and PS2.

Interviewer: Since the PS3 has Bluray, there shouldn't be too much trouble with storage?

Kitase: If you are talking about using a single or dual layer disc, there isn't really a problem with storage space. However, the PS3 also has a hard drive. Depends on which one you are talking about, but there's still some work to be done on the memory side of things.

Do I really need to say it?

Edit:

Also, quick reminder, FFVII ACC is out in 16 days as well as the demo version of FFXIII. I'll be giving my impressions when I play it, though I doubt it'll disappoint like FFXII did.

FURTHER EDIT!

Lightning: Maaya Sakamoto
Snow: Daiskue Ono
Vanille: Yukari Fukui
Sazh: Masashi Ehara

Further mega edit:

Sazh (Dude with the afro) has the most dialogue in the game.

So if 7/10 was using all of the PSX/PS2s power, why is 8/9/12 a monster compared to it with it's release years later? Sounds more like it had bad optimizing than needing all of that hardware to work so hard to run. 7 to 8/9 especially. Very low poly models on prerendered backgrounds requires fullpower, but then they can get away with better polycounts later on? Even special effects saw a significant boost in appearance with the later 2 games, as well as the battle backgrounds.

e: Actually, yeah. I'm gonna flag bad optimization considering the state the 16-bit ports were in with constant slowdown and system pauses, despite requiring significantly less hardware power to run on before. Any programmer can make a resource hog. It doesn't mean it has to require what it ends up using.

I am going with Skaws first paragraph.. Why do people still take anything devs say seriously? Its not going there, its not coming here, its the strongest ever, nothing like this ever, 100% Powa!!!

I mean come on. From what i have seen of FFXIII in gameplay video... If thats 100% of the PS3s power then what the fuck was Uncharted, MGS4, KZ2 and man even Heavenly Sword??? 200% POWAR?

The damn 360 has not even been tapped for 100% of its power yet.. How the hell would anyone have tapped the PS3 for 100%? The devs dont even 100% understand the technology yet... Comments like this are retarted and just cant be taken seriously.

Thing is though it could still be using 100% of the available power at this time, it'll just be a resource hog. The PS3's full power hasn't been properly optimized just yet, so the developers that say this and that about using the console's full capabilities could actually be right and wrong. Yes they are using all of the available tech that they currently know they can use, and no, meaning that while it may use 100% power, it'll probably be extremely poorly optimized.

Who knows though, I'm not a programmer.

Yeah it could just mean they have no idea what 100% of the consoles power is and they are just making up percentages based on how hard they feel they are working on the game.

I dont know exactly how the coding and such works either Gerry. I guess they could have peaked the power to the best of their ability. They are not the greatest devs and i could see them just getting the game done whatever way possible. In the hands of a more experienced dev with the PS3 it may be a game that sits right with Uncharted, an estimated (From ND themselves) 30-40% of PS3 power.

It's sort of a vague concept, 100% power. Sometimes in programming you make decisions that will lean on one resource or another, and in intelligent program design you can try to get around hardware bottlenecks by putting the pressure on the areas where your machine is strong, for the PS3 that's the processor and memory, as well as use of the hard drive. Of course, if it's multiplatform, they can't rely so much on the PS3 strengths. On the other hand, they can have well optimized code that's drawing the maximum with current techniques out of the PS3 in a similar way to how the 360 works.

New techniques however are constantly churned out, especially with multicore architecture, as is obvious from the steep increase in PS3 exclusive performance - and so the max, at least with the processor power, is probably only really visible so far with the folding@home program. Also to say they're maxing it out may be relative to multiplatform design.

Who cares about power, what SE needs to focus on is somethin' they have failed to do on current gen. systems, give us a good game.

The answer to that process is obvious, Strid. Final Fantasy IX-2.

agreed :D but what would happen after IX? XD I don't want a X-2 crap kinda game.

works for me!

You can have a story about Zidane and Garnet's horrible bastard half-breed son as he goes on an adventure to find out why the moon has reappeared.

Yeah, seriously. 9 was good but give me somethin' better, like you use to do SE...

Well, it's the best 3D non-remake, so would be the closest thing to making a current gen game.

Meh, I enjoyed X like nobodies business but then again, I've been in the wrong a few times for my taste, or lack their of. I dunno what it is about FF X but I have beaten it 7 times and it never gets old. Anything after X has been garbage though, any game they have ever done, even if it's not FF related. Then again I really like Last Remnant but it just wasn't up to par until the PC release which was a long, long time after it originally hit. That's more for gameplay though, the story is uber lame. Brbz gotta go save Nee-san.
