But I already did that >:

Huge friggin' deal goin' down through the 28th at Gamestop. 50% extra trade in credit when the credit will be goin' toward the purchase of FFXIII and some other games.

Oh cool, I can get $2.50 on top of $5.00 trading in a game I bought two months ago.

Don't buy shitty games. More seriously, i c wut u did thar. Unfortunatly it beats a standard $5 but at $5 any game is worth keepin', except Bullet Witch.

Edit: Traded in Borderlands and Magnacarta 2 and they covered my bill for XIII. Borderlands got me $37.50 O_O I wouldn't have traded in either game for their "normal" worth.

What, you were expecting more from the team who made the awesome FF X-2? Final Fantasy died when Mistwalker was born (before then it was gettin' awful). There wont be another epic FF game that comes from SE unless it is a remake or a MMO.

I've read three reviews at the "half way point" and none of them have been positive. I have watched up to chapter 9 being played and they all seem spot on. I am lookin' forward to the results of the last half of the game. Someone from SE told someone who told someone that the game is totally linear for the first half or so then opens up to side quest and things like that. Forgot where I read that but it was in an article or interview from before the game was released.

I wasn't expecting much from XIII to begin with so I'm still lookin' as much forward to it now as ever, which isn't much, but its somethin' new to do in March.

Wasn't FFX linear as fuck?
I'm starting to feel like too much focus is put on all this run in a straight line stuff.
I'm not saying it's not bad, but I don't recall all these complaints about linearity surfacing in all the reviews of FFX.

FFX wasn't as linear as FFXIII sounds.

All games since they removed the world map has been linear. That is, X and onwards. Linearity isn't neccesarily a bad thing though, as long as there's plenty of stuff to do on the side.

And FFX-2 by itself was a good game imo. It had a good battle system, but it wasn't fitting to bear the title of Final Fantasy.

As for FFXIII, the reviews I've read all said the game was linear until the half-way point, when it opened up and became huge. Lots of side missions, optional bosses etc. Everyone that doesn't review the game has said its been awesome.

Part of what they say is true though, due to the graphical standard nowadays, things need to be sacrificed. One of the things they sacrificed was the world map, which is one of the reasons games became linear.

If they decide to go through with the FFVII remake with improved graphics, I'll be interested to see how they handle the world map. I'm hoping that, if they manage to keep it, it might be a step forwards in once again implementing the world map in FF games.

I would not jump at the chance to call FFXII linear.
Everyone's been reaching for that quote from the devs where they say that the game opens up about halfway through, and I hope halfway through is the case, and not at the end of the game like FFX was done.

FFX was linear as it gets. Straight line maps, virtually no backtracking. One giant field to do your hunts/quests.

FFX was great. I think XIII will be great for me since it resembles X. Now XII sucked ass.

Seriously, people are bitching about things that were all present in FFX. Stop judging it based on what it sounds like and just wait to play it.

You want straight lines, I'll give you straight lines.

Also, what does virtually every reviewer have in common? Best looking RPG of all time. They've all said the story is top notch and music might be the best of any Final Fantasy to date. They say the game is exhausting, and very very fast paced for the first 15 hours, and there is a reason in the story why you see no towns.

Except you could go back to those places and did for side quests and such :\ and there were multiple path areas. From the reviews it sounds like the first 8 chapters are literally nothing BUT straight a-ways, no branching, turning, anything, and then it closes those areas off and you never return to them. But I'll wait to see what the full game opens up since, as Strid also said, I've heard it opens up more, but still... even FFX doesn't sound like this did lol. Even it had some large open areas.

I don't care about "Best looking RPG of all time" (I still prefer freaking SNES and PS1 RPGs over newer ones for christ's sake) and the music, to me, isn't as good as other FFs :\ I'm not gonna deny it will turn out to be fun, but that doesn't mean I'll be happy with the way they took the FF franchise. I already haven't been :P

But the last few final fantasies have all taken the series in different directions. From here on out, expect everyone to be a totally different game completely. Final Fantasy X took away a world map, made the game completely linear. Final Fantasy XI made the game an Online game. Final Fantasy XII made the game pretty linear, did away with an old combat system and created the gambit system. If you count the spinoff X-2, they made a super fast past version of the job system. So since 2001, the series has changed completely.

What is to say they don't do something completely different for XV? I mean let's judge the game on it's OWN merits, not the past.

A lot of people play the FF cause the enjoy THAT kinda RPG. It was still innovative from each installment but had a lot of features that ran similar between them all :( these seem to be basically entirely new games with just FF tacked on.

Everything evolves if it wants to survive. No one wants to play games that are clones over and over. If I wanna experience the old systems I'll just play the older games. If you want a series to survive it has to present something new while keeping similar themes, nothing wrong with that.

I'm still waiting for my FFVII remake! :P (no.. but really, I would buy it)

I could care less if the story is linear. I don't mind that if the story is a good one. In fact, I rather prefer a good linear story to one that's far too open ended. Mostly the entire FF series has been a bunch of stories told through linear gameplay. Even FFXI if you think about it, the missions (which told the stories) were pretty straight forward in progression.
