Final Fantasy 13 Hype Thread?

Yeah, but the PS3 is the first console to require installs on a good portion of their games (I think Uncharted 2 was a rare one that doesn't require install?).
That, and playing on PC your disc drive is usually within arms reach anyway.

Except there's no mandatory or optional installl for the Japanese PS3 version and it loads pretty damn quick, 0.2-0.5 seconds between huge areas.
Don't think they'll add it for the NA/EU PS3 version either.

Who cares honestly. I'd still take ah hour long mandatory install if it meant the game ran faster. Is it really such a big deal? lol

When I went to pre-order this online i saw two versions.... "Final Fantasy XIII" and "Final Fantasy Vesus XIII"

Is there a difference? which one do i want??

Versus is a PS3 exclusive and is a separate title in the FNC universe, and it probably won't be out in Japan anytime soon, much less North America.
Same deal with Final Fantasy Agito XIII, but that one is for the PSP.
You'll want to pre-order just the regular Final Fantasy XIII.

My thoughts exactly. While it's installing I'll probably browse through the Strategy Guide I bought with it since I'm sure it'll be beautiful, just like the FFXII one was.

All this FF talk really makes me want to go back and play FFXI for a little bit, but I know that's so pointless with 13 coming out in less then a month and supposed release info on 14 coming out end of this month/next month.

There is no install though for the PS3 version, as for the guide, it's by Piggyback which is definitely a better strategy guide maker than BradyGames, and the LE/CE guide by them for FFXIII looks pretty awesome.
The Piggyback FFXII guide (only in EU) was a helluva lot better than the BradyGames one.
And on Amazon you can get the FFXIII CE guide for $15 cheaper than what Gamestop is selling it for.

MS just announced at the X10 event that they are releasing a special edition FF13 console, with two wireless controllers and a 250GB hard drive...i might wait to get my new box now

Not a special edition per se, just a bundle with a plain 360 that has Final Fantasy XIII on the HDD, nothing on the case.
They are also releasing a limited edition faceplate, either going to be sold separately or as a pre-order bonus for the bundle.
Bundle is the console with a 250GB HD, 2 controllers and the standard edition of the game.
Good for those who don't yet have a 360 and want to pick up FFXIII for that, otherwise nothing special.

Hopefully since they state that it's just the standard edition, SE announces a limited edition of the game for NA tomorrow for their Lucky 13 campaign, but I won't hold my breath.

And less than a month until we can all play FFXIII.

Yeah, no install for FFXIII. One of the reasons it takes up a double-sided Blu-Ray is because they didn't want loading times, so they put it on the disc with as little compression as possible. Or so I hear.

The news is out: FFXIII looks/runs better on the PS3 than its 360 counterpart.

The 360 version not only has more jagged graphics and less amounts of said graphics ingame, but the 360 version also does not even run in true HD. The PS3 version has been confirmed to run smoothly at 720p, whereas the 360 is only at 576p. (source: any gaming news site when you type in "ffxiii 360" on google)

If you have both systems and were debating on which system to get it on, you'd be better off with the PS3 version.

Considering all of this was brought about by a self/internet proclaimed analyst I'll say it like so; even -if- it is true, none of that is a deal breaker for me. A deal breaker for a non exclusive would be if I couldn't chat with friends. For me at least, playin' on the PS3 is a very, very lonely experience after having Xbox Live for so many years as well as using Ventrilo on my PC. Sony needs to step up their PSN offerings already.

Please take your pick, but I am not a liar. Nowhere did I say that I am a self proclaimed analyst, but I am not living under a rock either. I just don't get this information from websites. I talk to many representatives of the gaming world in my job; Sony representatives, Microsoft representatives, and representatives of multiple developers alike. If you want to get this game on 360 because you want to talk to your friends (how much talking could there be though if everyone's focused on the game and you don't want to shout spoilers to them), then that is perfectly fine and your decision. But if you're going to insinuate that the 360 version is superior solely because of that, then allow me buy some of whatever you are smoking off of you. Again, not saying you are insinuating. Just stating as is.

Edit: Forgot the mention. The PS3 version also will not require an install.

Oi, oi calm yer jets. I didn't say you were the analyst. I read the articles and know good and well who is responsible for all the fuss. I also never stated that the 360 would be the superior console. It is of my belief the lead platform for a game will usually be the superior platform. So really, calm down, and don't take everything I say to be a fight.

That being said, despite being a superior console for a game, that won't be the sole determinant of which platform I or anyone will buy a game on. People also take taste and preference into consideration. Maybe voice chat isn't a big deal to you, maybe you don't like to talk while you're roamin' the lands beatin' up baddies, but I do. Like I already said, voice chat is a deal breaker for me no matter what type of game I am playin'. To be honest when I'm not playin' a shooter or co-op game with friends little goes on in chat about the game we are playing. Maybe we are a bit off, but a lot of bullshittin' goes on. However, I can also see that bearing in mind others taste and preferences lack of "true" HD could be a turn off, it just isn't for me. I'm willing to bet though that I wont even notice the difference between this non-HD resolution and 720p. I can't even see the difference between 720 and 1080. As another note I have found that some of the HD RPGs I have played, Magna Carta II and Star Ocean, were over HDed. So that is another thing I have to take into consideration.

I woulda expected it to be better on the PS3 since it was developed for the PS3 primarily and ported after. Seems the systems it's primarily made on is usually the one better in graphics/performance. I doubt it'd be that bad on the 360, but I dunno for sure.

Oh Strid, why would you talk to your friends while playing FFXIII? Isn't it Single Player only everywhere? XD or would you want to talk to them while in game?

I don't think its worse on the PS3 because it is ported from PS3 to 360. I'm guessing its because they had a hard time fitting it on 4 DVD's as it is, so they had to reduce the graphics on it to actually make it fit, unless they wanted to add even more CD's.

you mean worse on the 360? :P

im with strid on this one, i cant imagine gaming without having that instant connection to any of my friends no matter what game we are all playing. Same in case that if we are not all playing the same game, we probly are not even talking about the games at all, its like talking on the phone with all your friends at once and just having conversations and goofing around.
As for the True HD part of it, for me, that sucks.
I love my HD. But currently its not really gonna matter for me since as of right now im stuck playing on component cables anyway.
My HDMI ports burned out on both my systems thanks to that shitty capture card i paid for.
im an HD junkie so i notice very easily when the quality isnt right.
As soon as i had to stop playing on HDMI, i noticed how washed out the color is >.<
But..ill still have to play this on 360.

Party chat is the single reason i am getting this for 360. Yes i would like to talk to friends while playing the game... Its the closest thing i can do to replicate my youth. A group of friends huddled around the tv taking turnes on FF7. It doesnt matter if i dont need it 100% of the time but when i want to use it, it better be there... So i am going with that version.
