Final Fantasy 13 Hype Thread?

The game will be great no matter which platform you pick it up on.
So it'll look better on one as opposed to the other, most people won't even notice it.
I still play NES games regularly.

I for one am getting the PS3 version, and if I wanted party chat I have my PC next to the couch and I can talk to them on Skype or Vent or whatnot.

Either way, it won't detract from the experience whatever console you play it on.
If you prefer the 360 controller, want party chat and prefer achievements and increasing your gamerscore, get it on 360.
If you prefer the PS3 controller and prefer trophies over achievements and want slightly better graphics get it on PS3.
SE has done a hell of a job porting it, I've seen multi-platform titles that look like complete shit after being ported.
FFXIII still looks awesome on 360.

I actually read somewhere that it wasn't a port. They completely did another engine from the ground up for the xbox 360 version, which is why it took this long I believe.

Someone posted a list somewhere of the differences in the two versions, I think most of them are as follows:

-Sub HD in-game visuals (576p 360) vs HD in-game visuals (720p PS3)
-720p compressed videos vs the PS3's 1080p videos
-360 version has inferior textures, character/enemy models, dithering and lighting in all places
-Compressed audio for the 360 version vs the lossless PS3 audio
-3 DVD9 discs vs 1 Blu-Ray disc
-No Install for either 360 or the PS3 Version
-Frame drops and texture pop-in for the 360 version
-PS3 trophies unlock custom themes

Pretty sure the one about Sub HD graphics on 360 was on NeoGAF somewhere from a guy on Digital Foundry...

Let me find it quickly, I know it's somewhere.

As far as talking with friends while playing this game, I'll probably do the exact same thing like I did with infamous or resistance 2 -- I'll play on the PS3 but have my 360 on as well and talk in party chat. Best of both worlds!

Il be getting this game but not expecting it to be as good as people are saying, its clearly not as good as was hyped up to be considering the reviews. The brand name alone will make it sell.

No, it's still good, it's just a different breed of FF.
It changes a lot what some people feel to be FF tradition, when the series itself has generally been about change.
It's just going to be one of those divisive titles like VIII and XII were.

It's so good, it's already for sale in Japan for $20 NEW. lol

It's going to disappoint. :\ It's not that changes make things bad, X was amazing. VIII was just an awful game, and XII was a little TOO much like XI Offline.

Nah, a lot of RPG's drop like that in Japan since most people buy it within the first few weeks and they need to lower the price to get rid of their stock.

And VIII and XII were both fun, sure they had their faults, but so did each FF.
I've played the import and it's a blast to play, hasn't disappointed me.
It's just different, it reminds me a lot of X.

This. Most of the "OMG FFXIII SUX" is coming out of the over-exaggerating asshole of the internet that is Sankaku Complex (CAN YOU TELL THAT I DON'T QUITE LIKE THEM YET?), but the game has sold very well.
As for the whole 360 vs PS3 thing, well... it's obvious that when a game is developed for one system then ported to another, some things will be lost or altered. Hell, pretty much every other third party game that's developed on the 360 first has minor problems on the PS3 port.
However, when a game is in motion and being played, unless you're some extremely discerning individual, you won't notice them. The gameplay isn't inheritably better on one system or another.

Watching "The Bad Girls Club" is like watching a wreck, it's so horrifying but I can't turn away.
That's like the Sankaku Complex.

I hope we start hearing more information on XIV after XIII releases too.

It's normal for a $60 game to drop to $20 after less than two months in Japan?

Edit: Also, I'd like to point out that I didn't say it'd be "bad". I said it would "disappoint".

Maybe I just go in without huge expectations, but usually good games don't disappoint me. Hell even "ok" games dont disappoint me if they are fun enough to play.

To be honest it doesn't have much to live up to in the first place. It wont be hard to be better than X-2 and XII, just the fact that it is first of the gen will be enough for it.

I must agree. There have been few games that really disappointed me. #1 waste of time was Two Worlds.

Otherwise I'm sure I'll be happy with this release.

fixed :P though would be nice to hear more about XIV after awhile, but don't care about MMO so much atm.

Just because your interest are different than his own doesn't mean you "fixed" his post.

And FFXIV is due out this year, Versus may release in Japan this year, but possibly not.
It's logical they'll give more information about XIV as opposed to Versus XIII.
Sure I want some more information on Versus as well, but the fact is we are for sure getting XIV this year worldwide, so we'll get more information on that.

Versus was announced first, it should be out first and the priority after FFXIII instead of FFXIV imo :P
